Keeping memories isn't unusual, you will part with it when you're ready. My husband died 2 1/2 years ago and I still have many items his and other things because they remind me of things we did together and I feel like if I throw them or give them away is disrespecting his memory but I am slowly starting to let go of some of it. As for the winch, I believe that he used it to get all the larger furniture up the stairs. p.s. My step father was a severe hoarder and it's something that's extremely hard to deal with.

My theory for the hook/hoist….Someone was planning on doing a top floor kitchen and this hoist was intended for hooking all your heavy shopping bags on, so you didn’t have to lug them up stairs by hand!!
Either that or its a very primitive stairlift and the last person to get hooked on forgot to leave the harness behind 🤣

After my parents passed, I held onto a few items of clothing of theirs. Like the sweaters they were wearing in their 50 th. wedding anniversary picture I took of them. After a few years of 'hanging on' to such items, I thought there is likely some senior out there that could make good use of them ! So, I donated them to a charity thrift store, where I'd already donated the best of their wardrobes. I'm sure it's what my parents would have wanted me to do. Matter of a fact ? I could nearly hear their sensible, British voices, saying " What are you doing, keeping this stuff ? They're only a couple of sweaters, not the Crown Jewels !" :)
Even a small thing like that can make a difference in another person's life, especially perhaps a pensioner, who may not be able to afford buying such an item, new, from a store, in this day and age.
Just something to think about when you're ready to let go, Dave. :)
