    David- the carbide graver is an excellent tool for O1- if you have the right tip shaped... you were using a point without a wide wnough face and it didnt look like you had any relief angle. You want a knife face for lining out your borders then a flat to lozenge with a hefty relief/rake to remove larger areas. Carbide is a great tool alloy- but beware the dust from grinding and only shape with water and diamond wheels. Great vid and BRAVO!

    Nice job, I'll have to try this out. Every other touchmark tutorial I've seen used a hammer and engraving chisel, but I have no engraving experience so I didn't try it out. Don't know why I never thought to use a Dremel...

    Good job again. Enjoyed as always. Check out YT or other places on how the Japanese make HANKOs. These are small I. D. stamps that every one in Japan must have to use when signing an official document of just about any kind. They push it onto a red ink pad so it will mark the document they are dealing with. They use plastic for your basic run-of-the-mill hanko but they often use steel, titanium, and other hard metals. Ivory is also a favorite. It is legal in Japan. This is an industry in Japan and you might get some good ideas on any further work you do on this subject.
    I must add that I'd not move the letter into the center of the touch-mark munch, but rather keep it off-center so it's not so symmetrical. It is much more dynamic if it is off-center. (Take this from an old art/design teacher....) You are quite talented. Keep on doing this good work you do. You inspire.

  • @brianelkins8604
    @brianelkins8604 5 лет назад +4

    An easier way of doing this to acid etch a negative into a peace of steel. Then heat up your stamp blank in the forge. When you got a good heat, strike the stamp good and hard on the negative and it will take the mark's shape. Then temper.

    The inconsistency is due to the large surface area, bigger hammer, smaller logo OR hollow out the inside of your letters to reduce surface area...

    Instead of making a new one,because the mark isn't in the middle,
    saw a piece of the rod,to make the mark centered

    I worked in a forge for 15 years, I make some touchmark. For that we used home made cold chisel, we made it with any broken tools like drillbit, mill tools ... Then shape them on the grinding stone carefully, then use it to engrave your touchmark. It worked pretty well and it is cheap, don't need carbide tool, just more grinding as the tool get dull.
    Here is some link about making your engraving tools
