There was a major G5 geomagnetic storm triggered on Friday, May 10th, which caused northern lights in the areas which normally do not see them. This was the largest storm since Halloween 2003.
I managed to capture a timelapse of the Northern Lights from my backyard.
It was cloudy till about 1:45am, then it started clearing up. I set up a timelapse at about 2:00am and went to bed. The lights were active till dawn.
This video compresses ~4 hours of action into just 36 seconds.
I used Canon RP with Irix 15 lens. Intervalometer was setup at 8s and exposures were in AV auto exposure mode, which was mostly at 5s. ISO was 1600. I also had -1ev exposure compensation to make sure that the sky is not too bright.
Video was created using kdenlive, which is a free, open source video editor for Window, Mac and Linux.
