I think they took a lot of inspiration from that fox reality show Solitary, which did all kinds of wild, borderline unsafe stuff. Even the robot voice from the BB7 torture test is similar to Solitary’s VAL...and it had just premiered a few weeks before BB7 started. Also random fun fact, John from Survivor Vanuatu was a contestant on Solitary

I'm a country girl and far from vegan or anything, just makes no sense to me to kill, possibly injure or torture animals for funsies.. kinda surprised more people haven't tried to bring attention to it when those newer episodes aired.

Ok I just looked it up and it was season 10. They had to lay in a flower bed with water dripping on their head and who ever stayed the closest to an hour without going over won. And Keesha won even though she got out first because everyone else went over an hour.

Horrible gameplay? BBCan 9 is in the top 3 of BB Canada seasons. BB23 wasn't even bad compared to previous BBUS seasons. Is there a reason why you think they were horrible?

Kiefer was one of the better strategic players and spent the whole season telling everyone he was going to win if they didn't send him home. Good for entertainment, not for strategy. BB23, the secret alliance was smart to get to the final 6, but nobody cared about their own games, nobody cared about winning. From polls I've seen, fan think that was the worst final 3 in BB history (with respect to gameplay), and that Xavier is barely a middle-tier winner. Very likeable cast, but nobody played to win.

Considering solitary confinement is literally a human rights violation, it surprises me that BB has gotten away with doing this on so many occasions to houseguests. One can argue "consent" and "they're being paid", but there is a very clear power imbalance that makes consent not truly possible for the houseguest and paying someone to physically/mentally torture them is still torturing human beings. The torture veto by comparison in BB7 is really fucked up but there is nothing stopping a HG from forfeiting the competition/simply not attending it on time.
