- At an auto repair shop in Kyiv, mechanics used to working on car engines are instead applying their skills to heavy weaponry captured from Russian armoured vehicles. They are converting them into handheld weapons that can be used by Ukrainian troops.

This is brilliant, exactly what the Finns did with soviet weapons during WW2!
The M/28-30, that Simo Häyhä used, was a variant of the Soviet Mosin-Nagant rifle, right?
@@Evan490BC It was a Finnish variant of the Imperial Russian Mosin Nagant and not a Soviet Mosin Nagant

This is very real. The first thing Ukrainians are doing with knocked out armor is dismounting the machine guns. I have seen videos of them removing the mount hardware on the side of the road. Ukrainians are mounting guns on the back of street vehicles to enable them to partake in hit and run attacks. The destroyed or knocked out armor is also extremely valuable, especially if the main gun works. They use military recovery vehicles and cranes to move and stack armor into their infantry defense fortifications. If the main gun works the vehicle is filled with sandbags and packed with sandbags on the outside, leaving access for the gun to be operated,
Can you imagine the look on their faces when that bombed out tank sitting on the corner starts using its main gun against the next convoy haha. Then they get opened up on from small arms sounding identical to their own, Russians are going home in body bags
Not only are the Ukrainians great fighters, but creative as well!! 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
@Sayin wat yes this is true, however not to the scale seen here. This is a new level of mad max type warfare

@@godfredsumabe9151 that makes them patriots defending their homeland against an (embarrassingly bad) invading force using whatever means they have available
The ingenuity of the Ukrainians in dealing with every detail of defence and attack during this invasion of their country is indeed remarkable. Great leadership shows what is possible.
When your home is under attack and going away is not an option, you will find impossible ways to defend it
MacGyver was Ukrainian.

@@tetsuonabiki do you support Russia's bid to bring in mercenaries including Syrians?
it's inspiring them to do great things
In my Marine Corps "Improvised Weapons" class we were taught how to use things discarded by the enemy to make weapons to kill them. Some were used as booby traps, some were electrically activated mines and others sent projectiles at the enemy. We learned a lot from the Filipinos of WWII and the Viet Cong in Viet Nam. They were experts at guerilla fighting!
Pretty sure booby traps are against the Geneva convention. Makes no sense you would be taught to fight like that.
The Finns (my parents country) invented the moltav cocktail...which we all know was very effective in WW2.
one of your Marines, Tony Stein, rebuilt a colt am/n aircraft .30 similarly to what these guys are doing, and won the MOH for his actions with it.
And that’s why you won in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan… wait…
For this interested, this is a PKT to PKM conversion, and was actually quite common in the states among hobbyists. The trickiest part is converting the electrically fired solenoid trigger, into a physical trigger that you can press with your finger.
it’s honestly crazy how they need to make complete fire control mechanisms for it like that’s not an easy thing to do, these guys are legends
so i guess it can be done.
I heard that Ukrainian programmers made automatic guard towers with PKT, that can be either controlled remotely, or confifured to fire to everything that moves.
Imagine sending your car to the mechanic and it comes back with a mounted machine gun welded onto it.

Bro in the middle of a war they retrofit dji drones to drop molotov cocktails they're absolutely genius engineers.
For those that don’t know . The belt fed shown is a pkt. It’s a coaxial mounted version of the pkm. It doesn’t have sights or a normal trigger. In the tank it’s fired by a electronic solenoid , but they have a back up tab that can be used to fire if the tank loses power etc.
they are adding a pkm stock/grip that is tripping the the pkt sear. Normally the grip / trigger is under the gun not behind.
Similar mods have been done to the pkt parts kits in America since they are more common then a pkm parts kit . There’s really only 4 main different parts . Barrel , top feed cover trigger group and rear trunion/stock
Since ww1 people have been adapting tank mounted machine guns from captured tanks for soliders to use.
Some models the machine guns are design to be taken out of the tank so the crew can use them if they need to ditch the tank.
How does it compare to the normal pkm? I feel it will lack accuracy, but I don"t know for sure.
THIS is a country that wants to win! Not just survive. Respect 101%
Smart, trained, skillfull, motivated. Outstanding.
Too bad their Skill Will go to history when they see Airstrike about to Destroy their autoshop
This brings back memories... 30 years ago, in another war (Croatia), we did the same. At first, we were fighting with cocktails, pistols and hunting rifles against fully equipped army. We managed to make armored transporters out of buses, used old agriculture biplanes, armed with home made boiler bombs, even made some weapons from the scratch and did many modifications on captured weapons. This war is so familiar to me.
War is never a good thing. Murder is murder.
In 2020 I sat and had a meal with an old guy in Serbia who retold stories how him and his unit essentially went into towns and killed Croatians on the spot, for simply being Croatian. This guy is like 70 now. And he told the story so calmly. (Ex-girlfriends grandad). War is crazy.

As ggManatee said the Russians are not well prepared, also many Russian conscripts are asking for food, or stealing food as they have none. Ukraine have been targeting logistics, which seriously impedes the pace armed forces can advance.
TBH, from reports (of course, this is just stuff seen on social media and therefore taken with a grain of salt), the Ukrainians probably have better and more modern rations than the Russians - or, at least, the Russian conscripts.
