    I've ordered this roman missal and I'm so excited to receive it. I've never owned a missal, and I want to learn Latin mass and prayer.
    Thanks 🙏 for your detailed review, it looks so perfect for what I would like as a daily devotional, because I can't always get to mass in church and there's no latin mass service offered where I live (small town)

    God Bless; this is a fantastic video! I can certainly see why you’re glad to have chosen this missal, since it appears brilliantly deep in its contents, and has confirmed for me that I will be buying this version of the missal. Thank you very much!

    I bought the Fr. Lasance Missal about 6 months ago. It seems to have a tighter binding than the Baronius one, although it might loosen up with use. Must admit, I haven't used it very much. It's also crammed with good stuff above and beyond what's strictly necessary for Mass. As well as some great (pre-Vatican II) artwork.

      From what I understand it essentially has a whole section teaching the reader what the mass is down to very specific detail

      I got Fr. Lassance just because it would have older content and much more. Good buy. It’s my home missal.
      Too big for to go to church with; my daily driver is Angelus/SSPX
      Here’s one for you @Convinced Catholic.
      Do you use a NO missal? Would you be reviewing them? The ones in the shops locally here kinda imply one has to get one every new year which is such a waste imo...
      I find the Truth and Life app supplies me an option for displaying the (novus ordo) readings for any arbitrary day (app is essentially an RSV-2CE phone bible + Scott Hahn et al).
      But it’s not a missal.
      Interested in your thoughts of NO missals!

    • @DavidWilson-hd6iz
      @DavidWilson-hd6iz Год назад +1

      @@Kings0375 Yes. The one I have is a reprint of the 1945 edition, under Pius XII. I've heard the differences between the 1962 are minor, but I haven't made a comparison. Would be interested to know though.

      Yes, Fr. Lassance most definitely is, but I honestly think that most tridentine masses (at least the ones I know) are all ‘62.
      ‘62 is ok, if Abp Lefevbre is cool with it, it’s cool with me!

    Wonderful review. Gave me more insight on this edition from Baronius Press. I have copies of the missals from Fr. Lasance and from Angelus press though. And I find them both very helpful. I would like to have a copy of this one that you have. God bless you!

    Let me add one more thing - check out a publication called Benedictus.
    It is very much like “Magnificat” but uses the Latin Mass / calendar instead.
    It is published once a month- and each day has all the propers, plus morning/night prayers, meditations, resdings, Saint stories, Church History etc.
    The best thing about the publication is that it can be used as a daily missal for attending the traditional Latin Mas (as well as Sundays).. Towards the back is the whole Holy Mass, usually the last Sunday of the month and you just need to flip to the particular day to read the proper. What’s nice is that the very last Sunday contains the Holy Mass - including the propers for that mass so there’s no flipping around. Lol.
    It is about 5 bucks per issue- cheaper with subscription.

    There’s a young lady(“A Catholic Wife”) that has a similar video on how to use the missal.. hers may be a different version (maybe Father Lasamce). Her’s is incredible personalized… she definitely has figured out a way maximize the use :)
    I may look into buying a copy of yours. Good review.
    Yeah when an outsider uses the “y’all dont use the Bible in “church”. “ I break out the Novos Ordo and Latin mass missals- and show them ALL the scripture passages used in each mass.. and how the very throughout the year, and how they are follow great themes themes… plus the readings of course… They don’t bring it up again. LoL
    I suppose it’s because they dont see people walking in with Bibles and highlighters in their area so they assume we just go there to chat.

    My favorite is definitely the Angelus Press missal it’s much smaller and easier to handle during mass. It does not contain the Pre-55 Holy Week though which my parish does. For that I have to use the Fr.Lascance missal which does have them. The Fr.Lascance missal is not ideal for the rest of the year since some of the feast days have been shifted and or renamed from the Pre-55 calendar to the 1962 calendar so sometimes it does not match up which can be quite annoying as well as the fact that the Fr.Lascance Missal is just to bulky to be able to handle with ease.

    Being new to the Latin mass, as you mentioned I can’t really hear the priest. So I’m wondering how do you actually stay on track where the priest is when trying to follow along? I was considering buying this missal. You did a very thorough review. Thanks!

    I’m not sure if you read it but there is a really good short commentary on the TLM by Monsignor George Moorman that is put out by TAN books. I picked up more to do a comparison between the theology and praxis between the TLM and the liturgy of St. John chrysostom against a really good commentary on that liturgy.

    • @ConvincedCatholicism
      @ConvincedCatholicism  Год назад +2

      Sounds like a great commentary. The two liturgies are simultaneously nothing a like yet so similar. Thats what I love about the Church.

    I'm jealous you have Divine Liturgy AND TLM available. The closest of either is about 2.5 hours away from me and with a young family I can't make those drives each week. Same with the Ordinariate. 😞 But sadly irreverent guitar mass Novus Ordo parishes seem to be every other street.

    I highly recommend reviewing St Lawrence's Hidden Treasure of the Mass. It goes through both the infinite value an power of every Mass, and also gives multiple methods of participating in the Mass prayerfully. Personally, I get too distracted by trying to follow books during the Mass, so I prefer to do chaplets and rosaries and arrow prayers in between responses - or sometimes even in replace of them if I am unfamiliar with them.

  • @geraldparker8125

    I love all of these recently published Latin Missals of the traditional Latin Mass. I still have my St. Paul's Daily Missal for the 1965 Missale Romanum, which is the liturgical standard, comparatively lightly revised from 1962 and infinitely superior to the absolutely horrid Novus Ordo of 1970. I used my 1965 Missal at both the 1965 and 1962 Latin Masses until the Novus Ordo drove me away from the Romish Church. I'm Lutheran and am happy that the Lutheran Liturgy is so much closer to the 1962 and 1965 liturgies than the despiably 1970 liturgical bowderlerisation is.

    • @ConvincedCatholicism

      I am a Confessional Lutheran. I most decidedly believe in the Eucharist and, in that regard, in the Real Presence, physical, spiritual, ALL of that, as Lutheranism has taught down the ages. Lutherans today are stronger re. this matter than loosey-goosey Roman Catholics are becoming.@@bruno-bnvm
