- Today we're talking about a genre of games that I find intriguing. Because whereas typically games are exciting and bombastic due to the escapist nature of their design, simulator games are almost the opposite of that. The anti-game. So let's find out what these games are, what their appeal is and what goes into making one.

Farming Simulator started this whole craze. I'm surprised you never mentioned it. Before that, when I was a kid, I used to play a bunch of games from the 18 wheels of steel games, which all are like the grandpas of euro truck simulator
SCS Software liteally developed 18 wheels of Steel so.
He didn't mention any racing Sims either like assetto Corsa
Or flight Sims. Which I assumed was far more popular than chair sim
The only true sim game is ‘Desert Bus’
My Summer Car is a go to for me along with the Car Mechanic Simulator games. I'm also a gear head so I like that stuff.
For some reason I've became really into train sims. There is just something about driving an DB ICE gen 3 at 260kph with LZB and PZB systems you have to work with

you should've brought up the lawnmower part in Bully, the rockstar game from 2006. i knew id love lawnmower sim since I loved that part of Bully as a kid.
You know, when i played that mini game and loved it, i never thought id end up doing it as a career 💀
So I've been gaming for a long time now. I can remember a day when simulators were things we couldn't do in normal life such as swat 4, OG Ghost recon, OG Rainbow six. The simulator aspects and those were how realistic they could betray environments and situations that we don't get to experience every day. Many have made an argument Stalker was a simulator in depravity haha. I suppose the term can be very broad. Maybe because it's mostly only indie developers who work in the simulator genre nowadays.

I don't know if you reply to comments but I wanted to ask you if you think that games like "Wolf Simulator" or "Tiger Simulator" are considered simulator games, or if you ever played one of these and what are your opinions on these games?
I’ve never played either of those simulators, but I’ll make sure to check them out!
I want a plant Sim w pots. Not farming, tbh as someone who travels it's hard to keep realism so gaming can also help in that aspect.
I actually like the weird uncanny/liminal feeling of a lot of simulators. I don't know i can't explain it.
Personally I'm quite fond of Microsoft FSX because becoming a pilot has been a life long dream of mine. I also downloaded the American Truck Sim demo (because I am, in fact, a yank) but I haven't actually bought it yet because we don't have healthcare and I have to pay for my medications out-of-pocket.
And on your closing comments, I once flew a C-47 from Fairbanks, Alaska to Los Angeles. Relaxing, mundane bliss.

I am actually suprised you didnt talk about Farm Simulator, its like the second best Simulator game, but i would assume this is because you talk about games you had expirience with only

There are more sims some dating to early ‘80 like MS Flight Simulator.
He did not touched on let’s say more serious sims like XPlane or various racing sims.
Also games like spin tires, mud runner and snow runner can be also even though they do not have sim in the name be put into this category.

I think the games are made for resumes lol. People code the game as a project to showcase what they can do.

And then there's train sim classic and train sim world, the rich man's simulators 😂 I'm not rich and unfortunately for me I enjoy them very much
