I think that Bucky O Hare is one of the best NES games, because it has lots of great levels and is a technical masterpiece. You could tell that in 1992, the programmers at Konami had mastered the NES to its utmost extend, and this game combines it all. It has parallax scrolling, lots of enemies without flickering, super fast scrolling, huge moving objects... perfect! Oh, and like most Konami games, a killer soundtrack. Shame that it doesnt seem to be as popular as Turtles and Castlevania.
It's not blinky's bombs that make a hole in the ground, but the toad above is throwing a spiky ball that breaks the hole if the ice is cleared out of the way.
I remember the arcade game, although vaguely. A Chuck E. Cheese's I used to go to as a little kid years ago had it. Oddly enough it was the one and only place I ever saw the game at.
Sure, the characters aren't as well known as the ninja turtles or other late 80's early 90's TV show characters, but this game kicks butt. If you haven't played it, it is in many ways similar to the classic Mega Man series.
The boss from 4:08 is litteraliy the second hardest boss I ever beaten(only surpased by Genocidie and Lord Contaminous).I littleraly earned half of my lifes for killing his offsprings.I got there with 30 but ended up with 60.I was overcomed of how easy the other boses were and pissed off cause the points you earn thruought the game mean nothing in the end yet is a really cool game and definetly deserves the hardcore followers it has gained thruought the years.Cool and thruthfull review btw
You know,an easier way to get past the big green boulders is to use Bucky to jump on the right side of the boulder then switch to Blinky and stay ducked until you reach the end.
at the end of this video, the part with the toads dropping ice blocks, what actually opens the holes in the ground are the toads above the ice-dropping toads that are dropping those spiked balls. very good video though!
On teh green planet, the boss you were fighting was Toad-Borg, one of Air Marshal's henchmen. I just wanted to help out who that was in the first boss.
I never played it as a kid, but i did get it today from ebay. While the gameplay and grafics play and look well, the unlimited continues make the game too damn easy if you have any shred of skill. I was able to complete this game in a couple of hours. (which would have been very dissapointing had I spent full $ back in the day.
Yeah, the platforming by itself was tough but the game gives too much reward for so little effort. It's like playing a really short version of super meat boy.
+arseniy It's more to it than that dude. Being able to select what level to tackle first, as well as the level designs themselves are TOTALLY reminiscent of Megaman. Even being able to switch to different characters is almost like how Megaman can switch his weapons, as you have to do it in able to pass certain obstacles/defeat certain enemies/bosses, etc. And there's the charging abilities too. You have to look at it deeper than just "platforms and shooting" as you put it. It's all in front of you.
Except it is. Megaman was the first game to feature all those things, as far as I'm aware anyway. You can doubt all you want but could you name an earlier game franchise to do it? MM was innovative and other games/companies copied the formula for success, albeit changing it some of course.
loved this game as a kid and no joke its gets hard as shit but a great challenge just downloaded it on my phone so lets if i can beat this shit 21yrs later

I love this game and have since I was 7 I never knew it was a show also that is cool I guess...good good walk through it is just like I remember and your right the cell parts are a bitch and that one room with the green and pink squares piss me off so much

great looking game, very varied challenges... i miss those days, the days of games that made you learn how to master them.
Awesome review and great taste in music!! I subscribed! Your now on my list of the top video game reviewers too!
It's ability to select characters also reminds me of Castlevania III Draculas Curse.
It'd be cool if you reviewed that game someday.

Its interesting that Konami at 7:30 would put a reference to their game Life Force with the fire arches. You see it in the ending credits too.
There was also a Bucky O' Hare arcade game, but it was in the same vein as the Alien arcade game.

Usually back in the day, if the konami logo was on the game, its in good hands with the exception of 1 game as I know of (Top Gun).

i have this game i used to love it
Wow, this actually looks pretty good, never heard of it before tough.
The lave trail kind of reminds me of Quickman's level in megaman 2
The rush of lava kind of reminds me of Quick Man's stage from Megaman 2 for some reason.

Wow a Combination of Mega Man and Contra
Thanks for the memoryes :)
I love the theme song. =D

The reviever is so terribly wrong by saying that the graphics are average. This game ranks amongst the very best graphics created for the NES.
i have this on emulator! it's pretty tough!
I don't see how is this similar to megaman. Platforms, shooting etc, it appears in tons of games.

+ragemishima, I have much doubt megaman is a first game to add that

This is a great, yet very hard game, even for me. I got an Ultimate Gamer's Guide for this title. I'll post the first episode of it as a response.
7:31 Arches of flame, eh... ? Kinda reminds me of Gradius.. another Konami game. ;)
Such a great game! I never actually won it, though....

Am I the only one that played this game under the name of "The Incredibles"?
I love this game and have since I was 7 I never knew it was a show also that is cool I guess...good good walk through it is just like I remember and your right the cell parts are a bitch and that one room with the green and pink squares piss me off so much
