He actually did face the Silver Surfer in the first few issues of the Surfer's first comic series. He'd kidnapped Shalla Bal, the Surfer's girlfriend from before he was the Surfer, when he was just Norrin Radd, and tricked him into coming back on Earth. The Surfer proceeded to lay the smack down on him though. He won but not before Mephisto sent her back to her planet, where the Surfer couldn't reach her (Thanks to Galactus's barrier keeping him trapped.). That aside, awesome video, Aqualung!
I have to thank you for reviewing this video game. I've never wanted to play this game, but I wanted to see what is this game and you did a great job showing us every single part of it.
I have watched a few of your reviews and I must say I love the fact your voice sounds like doing these is a waste of your time. You sound like a book report you "have" to do in front of class. You make it sound like this is a huge waste of time lol. Love it! Keep it up!
All right, the possessor in his picture looks like an older Bret the Hitman Hart with the glasses and everything, but in the game battle, looks like some kind of caveman. WTF? Hard game, great review! Keep 'em coming
A good way to identify what is background and what is a wall, shoot at it, if the shots pass through, it's background, if the shot is blocked, it's a wall.
One of the things that always bothered me back in the NES era was the multitude of developers that seemed more focused on creating overly difficult and seemingly unbeatable games, instead of creating games to be FUN. That's what games are supposed to be: FUN. Now FUN + CHALLENGE makes for quite an epic game. But a lot of developers back in the day just didn't get this and opted to focus exclusively on challenge. Such a sad thing to see what could've be an awesome game fail due to this concept.
I actually see a lot of potential in this game, if its flaws were fixed. Personally I would try to add parallax scrolling and make the backgrounds less saturated, so that it became easier to distinguish the foregrounds from the backgrounds, and then of course also add autofire, as well as clearly mark Silver Surfer's hit detection, like maybe with a red dot on his torso or something. It would also be convenient if his speed could be toggled by simply pressing the Select button, and it would be fun to have a large number of weapons and power-ups, and also have the environments simply block Silver Surfer instead of killing him. Another cool addition would be to have a power-up that allowed Silver Surfer to fly through weak walls that blocked a bunch of items.
I played this game quite a bit tonight, and was able to beat 4 of the 5 stages. I couldn't beat the second section of Mephisto's stage. Hard as hell once you die and lose all your powerups. Has anyone EVER beat this game without dying, or without picking up any powerups? Talk about the ultimate gaming challenge!!!
Good review...though, I actually liked the game and definitely I'm looking for a hardcore challenge. It should've been higher than a D-...if anything, it should've been a C. But we all have our own views & opinions.
I bought this game for like $5, solely for the soundtrack! It was worth it. Playing it wasn't so good though. It seems super-hard at first, but actually it's only very hard once in a while, when you die and lose your upgrades. Generally, the game is always either hard, or boring. Not cool!
Mephisto is a name rip of Mephistopheles, but he is a character from the Marvel universe. He fought Fantastic Four and Dr Strange. I'm.... not sure if he ever faces Surfer, and I don't care. I was never a comic book nerd. Only reason I know is, I /was/ and rpg nerd, and had the Marvel RPG.
I'll give you props man, that game has to be the most annoying thing I've ever seen, It's also got the most bullshit I've ever scene with the bended walls and the pass over one thing but something that looks the same will kill you. I've always hated games with one hit deaths, Contra being the exception.
Tch. final boss looks like either an evil Captain Planet or Dracula. Too bad he's not in it, as his picture looks NOTHING like his real purple form. Weird.
even with save states this game is insane, i tried it only once with an emulator using save states like a man posessed for about an hour and still couldn't even make it to one boss fight.. FUCK this game.
I played this game for myself. Yes, it is pretty bad. But it's not bad because it's hard. It actually isn't a hard game. Contra is a brutally difficult game, but it's still awesome. Silver Surfer is bad simply because it's just badly designed and repetitive.
EdmacZ Somwhat agreeable. I just beat it today, I had to use save states though. It's harder than Contra in some circumstances, but it's probably not as hard as Battletoads.
This game is one of the most sadistic pieces of shit I've ever played. Its obvious you were playing with save states. I can't see the game being possible without them. This game was made to torture gamers.
"Silver Surfer" is not "shitty". If you wanna see truly shitty NES games then check out "Conan", or anything from the "Action 52" collection. "Silver Surfer" looks like a masterpiece compared to those games.
Hyper Sonic It wasn't, just because a game's bad doesn't mean it was made by a specific company. That's like saying if you lived to a specific age depending on weather you're a boy or a girl or something like that. I think you need to actually research who made the game, as opposed to blaming on a company that had no part of making it.

Thank you, Aqualung. This really helped me get through the game and finally beat it.

That was another awesome review/walkthrough. Good job, Aqua. I was impressed.
Aqualung, I'm glad to see you beat this game! I never had the patience
the first boss in Emperor's level reminds me of a boss in Guardian Legend! I
dude you are definitely a great gamer to be the first to complete this game my hats off to you
All right, the possessor in his picture looks like an older Bret the Hitman Hart with the glasses and everything, but in the game battle, looks like some kind of caveman. WTF?

He's faced the Surfer many, many times. Mephisto's first appearance was in Silver Surfer #3, Vol. 1, in fact.

Well congrats to you for making it through! Great job.
Galactus: The device is mine!
Silver Surfer: NO ME!
Galactus: OK.
THE END.

Ah, didn't catch that at first. Turns out the real boss doesn't battle you very often in this game, which is strange.
@jambi880 No, but it counts as hits, so if you have bombs left, that is definitely the time to use them.
Cool walk through, it must have taken a while to do this one.
never beat the game but that was the best ending in a game. ever
Good review...though, I actually liked the game and definitely I'm looking for a hardcore challenge. It should've been higher than a D-...if anything, it should've been a C. But we all have our own views & opinions.
even with save states, nice work

You make it look easy Aqua

it's been 2 long!
glad 2 C U bak in business
They should pull an "ET" and bury dragon's lair games in the dessert
I gotta ask because inquiring minds must know. How long did it take you to beat this game?
The possessor stands behind the caveman.
Strikes me as odd, if only cos I see SS as a 'Hardcore Sci fi spaceman' character, and Mephisto as more of a magical Fantasy Magical Villain type/.
Are you using save states? Not that I'd blame you or anything, but looking at the vids your lives always go up despite the clips of you dying.
WOW how long did it take you to beat this game?
Certanly a game to avoid! Great review!
BTW, The emperor in his 8-bit sprite looks like Shrek.
Makes sense, he's the self-proclaimed emperor of the Skrulls.
He's also got a Thanos mullet.
Lol, it was cancer or shrimp, not insect :P
Still impressive though, if anyone clocked this without using save states, then well we wanna see proof because its near impossible
The emperor looks like shrek XD

@stefundertaker222 Well, I used game genie for infinite lives. *blush*
Razor Vermillon
U r right, he graded it wrong. This is a B- if I ever seen one.
The games real ending happens when you beat it in hard.
thought the same thing xD
Me personally, I never liked this game. It's so difficult that its practically unplayable. The music is the only redeeming factor to this game.
this game was IMPOSSIBLE
This game likes a torture.
I would give it a C-
I played this game for myself. Yes, it is pretty bad.

You think Silver Surfer is easy but you think Contra is hard? That's absolutely ridiculous.
EdmacZ Somwhat agreeable. I just beat it today, I had to use save states though. It's harder than Contra in some circumstances, but it's probably not as hard as Battletoads.
Harsh
This game is one of the most sadistic pieces of shit I've ever played. Its obvious you were playing with save states. I can't see the game being possible without them. This game was made to torture gamers.
The game was made by LJN, I believe, and they're known for making some shitty games. They're dead so we modern gamers can rejoice.
nah, they just changed their name to EA
No. Silver Surfer was developed by Software Creations.
***** LJN was still responsible at some point.
"Silver Surfer" is not "shitty".

AGAIN.
THIS GAME SUCKS ARSE.
