- I visited TheCorvetteBen and we did a review of his wicked awesome 1973 Corvette C3! The first corvette I have driven in my LIFE!
Make sure you check out his channel, he has worked on a bunch of old cars in the past, and many more will follow in the future!

Larry Shinoda said the '73 was actually his favorite because it was the closest to what the stylists were going for when they first designed the 3rd gen.

"...if you put on 'any' kind of aftermarket intake, you have to get a higher hood, you have to, or it will not fit."
Hold on there 'cowboy', that statement is incorrect. My factory equipped 454 CID1973 Stingray Corvette not only has an aftermarket intake manifold, but also a one inch Wilson four hole tapered spacer under a 4150 Holley carburetor. This combination fits under the stock hood with 3/4" of clearance from top side of air cleaner to underside of hood as well.
Here is the list of the engine combination;

More than enough power, extremely reliable as well as fun to drive. Sounds wicked and nasty powerful
with this set-up. And this is just the engine combination. There's another four pages to list all the other
'goodies' that make up my Corvette. 12,344.6 ORIGINAL miles on my car and has been in the family
since it came off the assemble line in January 25 1973. Yellow ink writing on rear bulk-head 1-25-73.
Way cool.
Cheers.
As if there is a better looking car on the planet. NOT! Gorgeous C3's are just the best!
+Teresa67 Factoid talking to a Ford guy here... But I agree that the c3 is definitely in the top portion of the cars I like and love!
The Dutch Texan
I am a Chevy guy, I would buy a C3 in any condition, just to look at it. Gorgeous.
My dad was a Chevy guy, and I am a Chevy guy, but because GM could not make a reliable V6 to save their lives (except for the 3800) my main vehicle is a 2001 Ford Taurus wagon. Cast iron block, cast iron heads, a timing chain, not a belt, and over 500 thousand Kilometers and counting.
I am 60 years old, and you can just imagine how many cars I have owned. The Taurus is the best car I have ever owned. Hands down.
. When I was building a deck, I loaded 16 foot lumber from the front windshield sticking out the rear hatch window of the Taurus wagon, going down the expressway!
I have abused the Taurus wagon again, and again. Nothing major in repairs, just consumables like brakes, alternators, battery's while delivering 27MPG. The Taurus wagon even has TWO spare tires! One under the floor, and another spare tire under the plastic cover in the rear on the driver's side.
Just saying, a Chevy guy in love with his Ford. I never would have thunk it.
Teresa67 Factoid Imo C2s look alot better but this car is still great looking
The Corvette c3 is a beautiful piece of art on four wheels!!
I wholeheartedly agree!
That is what i love seeing. THIS IS THE BEST COUNTRY DAMMIT!!!!
'Merica
Makes me miss my 1973 c3 terribly! Hunter green and saddle tan interior. All I can do is look at old photos from the 90s and watch RUclips videos like yours. Thanks for sharing!
As a fellow car enthusiast I know that feeling all too well. I think RUclips serves as a sort of "self medication" for me too when it comes down to that.
The 454 had 275 HP and most important nearly 400 ft LBS of torque. Plus then the HP was true and direct to the wheels all the time! Corvette Ben Rocks!
He's an awesome dude indeed! And if you ever need any work done on a classic he is more reasonable than all the other shops out there. And he stands by his work.
Lovely cut grass lawns, no litter, neatly parked cars - respect!
It was a nice neighborhood. Wish we could have taken it out on the open road, but... Reasons...
Nice car. I just picked up a 73 Stingray in blue. Its a very original car with only 28K miles. (call me the Italian Texan, Frisco/McKinney area)
I bet that is a looker! What are the specs on her?
@@TheDutchTexan Its a T top car, L82 350 CI, Auto trans, pwr steering, pwr brakes, deluxe leather interior, AC, factory alloy wheels, original Targa Blue paint.
I own C2,C3 and a C7 ZO6 and I drive my C3 as a daily driver. It’s a 350 fuel injected small block with manual 5 spd. All high performance suspension, air cond power everything, original side pipes and leather. I drive the piss out of it. It’s loud as shit and scares small children and dogs.
I would do the same thing! Side Pipes FTW!
A very clean smart looking Vette, and I love the darker shade of red you used too. Excellent! :)
+Stephanie Ann this was a review I did. Not mine! It was cool and very nice though!
I love at 8:53 that you looked at the Crown Vic to see if it had a cop in it or if it was a cop lol.
I had a 73 coup, 350/350, took all the smog shit off, put Hooker headers on, swapped out the Muncie for a Hurst Competition Plus linkage , that Vette was awesome, great weight distribution and power, it had Goodrich TA radials,,, WISH I STILL HAD IT
Hitting 60-70 then just letting off the gas and hearing some crackle is just amazing. I love doing it in my camaro.
+Brad V "popcorn" for the WIN! The only way my mustang crackles is getting on it a little when the engine is still cold (to say 3-4k rpm) in first and abruptly getting off the throttle. Older cars just do it better!
The Dutch Texan For sure. But like you said unless completely redone/resto mod type car, it's still a 40 year old car. That metal, that suspension. Sometimes it ain't so fun haha.
Man that 73 Corvette sounds beautiful and looks beautiful as well.
Agreed, one of my favorite cars I have reviewed.
@@TheDutchTexan Awesome
That is beautiful. I love that style. A 63 split back is my favorite followed very closely by this one. I love the ass on these with the lip on the back and the back window that rolls down. I love that you are so excited about the drive. That's cool. Many people seem too bland when talking about or driving these old rides.
On a side note, that's cool that kid drives that old truck, I like that.
Classics are my jam, I love them. Getting to drive them is an amazing experience. Sooner or later I will have a classic car project on my channel!
Great review! That big block sounds a bit deafening with the side pipes but it also sounds great (just for the record, I'm listening to the video using headphones). The limited options makes the car more appreciated. Great point about free items! The fact that production of the C3 Corvette lasted 14 years (from '68 to '82) is a testament to its longevity. Just reading the selling price change over those years is a good way to teach someone about inflation.
I edited it with headphones on and I actually lowered the volume by a fair margin during post production. It truly tells you that those pipes are not for the fainthearted. IMHO the C3 is the classic vette to have. There are others out there, and every model has some sort of appeal. But as you noted the C3 spanned 3 decades, has that vintage coke bottle shape many desire and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get in one.
@@TheDutchTexan not yet but with their popularity continuing to grow, they will become more expensive to get into. As they say, there's no better time than the present.
I have a 71 454 4 speed convertible, that is a rush to drive,I mean as a fan reaction, that I love how it has the chrome front bumpers ,still root for the 73,for what it is ,a one year wonder!
I can only imagine! But a Classic is a classic, and every year of the C3 looks good but the chrome bumper years are definitely the best!
Gorgeous, just plain gorgeous! Agreed, it looks better in red.
Nice car, I wish I could have one of these here in Costa Rica... Thanks for the video...
No problem! I enjoyed making it, knowing that people from other countries are watching them too is awesome!
c3 is my favorite gen, love the way it sits. but yeah the emission restrictions sucked.
Same here, if I ever get a vette it's probably going to be a C3!
great vid...enjoyed your enthusiasm! i felt same way when i first drove one too! sidepipes are pure sex man
Thanks steve! I just love the sound, and the looks of them. They do fit the C3's very well!
Very sharp! Thank you for sharing.
+LOMBARDISPACKERS1 the pleasure was all mine! Thank you for watching!
I have a black 72 Corvette with a white ragtop right about the same thing happening in restoring mine I have the original engine but I'm driving an l82 engine in it right now they're beautiful and nice rid!!!!!ing vehicles looks!!!
+Steven Goat I was so lucky +thecorvetteben let me drive that vette! It was the first one I have driven in my life and I liked it a lot!
At 7:07 you mean: it's a drivers car. It's a masculine car.
Awesome review!! I love the side exhaust sound!
Just to get things straight, the 73 was a one off year, 72 had chrome bumpers both ends, 74 had rubber both ends with a really ugly rear that tapered to a point like a banana. THAT IS WHY 73 IS THE ONLY YEAR I WOULD OWN PERIOD!!!
Good video! And even better car!!!!
+MattSk8s39 agreed!!!
anyone else see the bird fly away when they started the engine? XD
YES! You are the first one to comment on that! I was laughing so hard when I edited it at the time! It was just chilling, and then... OMGWTF I am OUT!
awsome man..
i couldn,t watch your videos for a while cuz of reasons.
and now i can use my computer again i find this vid... i like it
Life happens, don't worry about it! I am glad you are linking some of my videos! I enjoyed myself a lot driving it around the neighborhood.
deffinetly a chanse i wouldn,t say no to either if i get to drive a corvette...... eventhough i,m more of a mustang fan though
AWESOME VIDEO AND 73 VETTE. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.
no comparison between new mustangs and this work of Art. This car is da Bomb
LOL! I think most of the American cars of the era have an aura of cool to them. Mechanical, more man and machine than anything being sold today. The C3 is in the top for me for sure though, together with the '69 Mach, 70-72 Torino's and 70-72 Monte Carlo's (to name a few...)
Love that sound!
Couldn't agree more! If I ever get a C3, I got to have those (or similar) pipes!
My favourite car of all time! ❤
It’s one of mine for sure!
Great! Greetz from Germany 🇺🇸🇩🇪😎👍🏼
I appreciate it!
oh man the riverside gold is the best color. Red looks good too
Always been partial to blue myself, but red is a very close second for me.
I'd be very happy for you to come review my 69 with a new LS-5 454 that I'm building right now. No side pipes, but it'll out run his 73 too.
+Tank Thomas I'd love to. Just tell me when it's done. Assuming you are local to the DFW area I think we can work something out! There can never be enough big block V8's on my Channel (or RUclips in general).
+The Dutch Texan unfortunately I don't live in your area. But, if you wanted to do a road trip, and do some of your great videos about the trip, you could come to Tucson, AZ and do this!!!!
+Tank Thomas one of these days I will get to that level! Talk to me when I hit 100.000 subscribers! Hahaha!
Tank Thomas if you're in Tucson I'd love to see your 69
Sage Cleveland I am in Tucson and mine is running now. It has about 500-550hp. It is an absolutely beast.
It will take a while, but I am going to put my whole retirement savings for one of these cars. I need to wait another 25 years, but she will be mine! one day...and then my life will be complete.
the 73 string ray is my favorite car ever
Not the most inexpensive of the C3's, but you'll save yourself a bunch of cash vs the earlier chrome bumper ones!
lightitup550 it brought skywalker back to the ground. if you get the reference.
Under appreciated but that's ok mine does 13 seconds at 110 mph in the quarter mile with just a new camshaft n I redid the cylinder heads, for a little more compression !! That's with the stock 3.08 rear-end,,driving to the track is the best part with all the thumbs up!!! The only problem i have is traction with so much torque ..put on radial street legal drags that helped !! I will never sell it, my daughter would hang me so its going to her n it will be well taken care of!!
nice vette man!
+Ben|Grant for sure!
I actually bought some parts for my 1974 from TheCorvetteBen.
He’s a super cool guy and the real deal!
The Dutch Texan Yup, his knowledge is second to none and he's a really down to Earth guy.
I used to work with him before he got 100% into the car game. He's a friend.
theoretically, if this car was quieter and more reliable, would it be possible to daily drive it, cuz that is a dream right there
+Weesli 7 I'd daily it even with the exhaust! Such awesome looking lines!
"my turbo cou-" man, this was made to fly across America with ease, you can pull out from idle with these big blocks, and just let the clutch out at idle through the gears. Pick any gear, the engine doesn't care, because the gears aren't super long. It's a shining chariot.
Did not worry about fuel mileage if you bought a 454 actually you didn't worry about fuel mileage if you bought a Corvette back then.
I have a 71 with a 427 and I'm pretty damn sure not positive but in 73 the big blocks came with a standard tranny
do u have the link for the convertible ride? i wanna watch that, too!
That one has not been filmed yet! It will happen in the future though!
This car is sold... btw
I know the new owner is going to have lots of FUN with it!
Love the side pipes
As do I! One of my favorite things about this vette!
HAHAHA!!! Just Nothing Short Of AWSOME!! Even If It Was The Stock 454/275, That Would Still Be Cool And I'd Still Snap It Up If I Had The Money.
You Would've Loved My '68 Yellow T-Top With 4-Speed 427/390 That I Had Back In 1984-'85. Sadly, At The Time I Had To Unload It Because It Was Just Too Expensive For Me And It Was On The Verge Of Being REPOSSESSED By That Crooked SECURITY PACIFIC NATIONAL BANK!! (Remember Them?)
Glad you enjoyed the review and it brought back some good memories of the car you used to have! And I'd rock a smogger big block myself, but a 72 4 speed big block would be awesome!
And the 68 is the dream c3!
wish this was still for sale
Was the steering wheel wobbling?
My 73 I took out the 454, put it on the engine stand and wedged in a 502. 615hp/600lbft torque. Ill make my 1st utube vid when it's finished.
Not really if I remember correctly, it has been a while since I drove the car. And keep it safe with that amount of power! Better get your brakes and tires sorted! BFG TA's won't let you put that down!
Swap ya the bike for a day for the change to take that beautiful angry girl for a wrap around the block a few times???!!! DAYUUUUMM!!
Deal! Oh wait... It's not mine and you are in Australia. Damn details...
Beautiful car
+Moonster I love the C3 corvettes, they have the best body style of all the corvettes IMHO!
+The Dutch Texan I agree, they look real nice
Love my 73 red vette
I own a 1973 T top with an LS1 and a T56 6 speed trans, it is an awesome car.
Best of both worlds, classic looks and modern reliability!
man my neighbor has one of those in the same color its pretty nice, but he never drives it. Also how much was Ben selling it for?
whatsupsuperman0 Asking $15,900 OBO, Car is located in North Texas
+TheCorvetteBen is it still for sale?
ej Hodges sorry man, that one has sold. But if you check out my youtube channel, you will see the cars I am working on right now
TheCorvetteBeN
October of 1973 is when people started to care about gas milage so the 1974 model year is when people started cutting backing on ordering big blocked cars.
Had a 73 BB that was sold in 78. It had A/C, PW, Tilt & Tel and a TH400. Don't ever sell a C3, ever
So why is the shifter difficult to figure out?
+rogermurph101 automatics are "foreign" to me...
Is it still for sale and how much?
It is long gone! Check out TheCorvetteBen here on RUclips, he always ends up with more projects he fixes before selling!
Figured thanks
Are you in Colleyville, or Flower Mound? Just a guess lol. The houses are too small for Southlake and Westlake.
This was shot in Frisco!
That's the only thing I don't like about the car is the side pipes?🤔
Everyone likes different things, that is what makes the car community so awesome!
@@TheDutchTexan. Exactly.
Dude, first time I see a video of yours. You are an awesome presenter! Just subscribed to your channel. If you are up here on the mountains I would show you my collection. Like you I have a daughter and son and 5 Corvettes and I do exactly as you have described. Also, is the car for sale? I would like to know about it. Could you contact me to share the contact information on it? Sorry if it was on the video as I had probably missed it by watching it at my office. Cheers.
Thank you so much for the awesome words. It made my night reading it! The car was indeed for sale, but it has since found a new home. I would subscribe to TheCorvetteBen because he was the guy that put the vette back in roadworthy shape! He does projects from time to time and puts them on his channel. So if you ever find a current video of a car you like you can totally message him on RUclips. He is a good friend of mine, and a straight shooter. You will know exactly what you get with him.
The Dutch Texan Thanks Dutch. Indeed, I watch many car videos as a collector. Very good will watch your other videos and hopefully see Ben's convertible as well.
Awesome car
I liked it! Got to love those sidepipes!
I want one real bad!
those T tops 👌👍❤
Got to love having an almost convertible when you want to!
+The Dutch Texan that's what I like corvettes. u can pop the top off whenever you want. the convertibles don't look as aggressive
@@TheDutchTexan yeah, I love the T tops better anyhow. I don't like many convertibles at all outside a Shelby Roadster but T tops are cool because they still have that hard top look.
The only thing better than a small block snorting thru Hooker side pipes is a big block. In the van days had a 82 Chevy with the Hooker side pipes .450.00 back then was a lot and a pain to install but worth it, everyone ran those fake sidepipes.
Those vans are all but forgotten it seems. Last time I saw one was at a meet years ago!
awesome!!
Agreed! Sidepipes and big block power = WIN!
I got a 81 lil over 40,ooo..
Luv yr car
this is what dreams are made of
Agreed! It sounded so good with those sidepipes!
C3s are admittedly gorgeous. But you can't see the car from the inside. I wanted one but my first test drive proved that this car was made for people smaller than me.. and I am not all that big. I wasn't cramped but.. confined. So now I have a C4. Maybe not as gorgeous but still a beauty that fits me like a glove.
What kind of exhaust do it have?
Nice car. Why does the steering wheel looks uneven when its turning?
It was tracking straight, so it was just slipped on wrong after some work I am assuming.
O ok. its still a nice car
Sounds like its got a decent cam too--Nothing personal but I would much rather have a 4 speed
Same here, nothing is better than shifting yourself in one of those old cars!
You should fill in the holes in the back where the old exhaust used to be.
+Jim Jones the car is not mine and it is sold. The reason why it was not done was the option of returning back to the stock pipes. It's relatively easy now, but once you fill in those holes it becomes more of a chore.
nice dudes!
maybe gettin a C3 in Germany next days :)
+René Lange just make sure to check out this video by "TheCorvetteBen": ruclips.net/video/SgRgAppx0d4/видео.html
It'll give you pointers on what to look for. Ben is a pro at this!
Hard to use an automatic shifter? All corvettes should be 4 speed, like mine.
What exhaust is this? Dougs? Obx?
did you ever make the second video with his other convertible?
This has not happened, it is currently down for repairs too. But I believe eventually we'll make it happen!
@@TheDutchTexan please do! I was 21 when I first watched this video and fell in love with the c3, i'm 24 now and expecting delivery of my 1971 c3 this week! Your videos are dangerous!
@@dazasc3994 they are equally as dangerous to film. Some of the cars I would have bought the next day if I could. Such a great experience driving them!
What does a 73 Corvette cost from lowest to highest? And for handling you can upgrade the suspension and make it handle like a newer car. Thanks
You can do a lot of things to an older corvette to make it handle, including parts from newer corvettes. It all depends on how deep your pockets are. C3's are actually pretty cheap to obtain, but the older they are the more you are going to pay. On the local Craigslist I can't find a 1973 C3 for less than 9500 at this time, around your area they might be less or even more expensive.
Personally I would want a 1972 or earlier because they have metal bumpers all around. Those command a premium! The wish to have a manual and a big block (I don't care about numbers matching because I would want to drive it everywhere) is even more expensive.
The Dutch Texan Thanks, yes I can just Imagine how high it goes.
I’ve got 30k in my 72. It’s not original but has a modern fuel injected 350 with a manual 5sp air cond, power everything, high performance suspension, side pipes and leather. 68 to 72 bring the most money.
love that sound! so how many liters is a big block?
I prefer the slick look of a C4 but damn i still love and respect the C3 muscle look 👍
+TheeAmateur it varies, but in this case it is 6.5 liters! And the C4 does look good and I reviewed a 1985 model! I just prefer the c3 myself.
Up
Sold..... :(
Next Vette Ben, I get you.... :)
Greetings, Dirk
He does fix em up right!
" he's a ford guy " But he's driving a Chev, I could tell because he's driving and not pushing.
LOL... I got a '69 Mach 1 review with a manual transmission too... Definitely wasn't pushing that one either. Well, maybe I was, but in another way!
Where you can buy that corvette T-shirt
+Rick Gelderblom You'll need to ask thecorvetteben!
my 99 frc back fires its becuase old cars and mine due to modifications doesnt have cats so unburned fuel detonates out the exuast
Did you sell it and for how much? just wondering what those are going for
Bill Dollarmovie 😂😂
perfecto. wow
Yeah, I like it too!
those noise reducers : some people out there attempt to have these as daily drivers and try not to annoy the fuck out of everyone around wehn they just wanna STEP ON IT !
Wat ik mij afvroeg is, ben je verhuist naar de VS of komen daar ook je roots vandaan. En waar heb je in NL gewoond? Kom je er nog wel eens?
Daar heb ik een video voor! Hahaha! ruclips.net/video/_2IYOcoqWRs/видео.html
what is the difference between big block and small block
It's pretty much in the name! The physical size difference side by side is quite noticeable.
@@TheDutchTexan oh ok, i'm getting one but IDK if it's a big orr small block, 1978
Smallblock 350 unless it was swapped. If memory serves 1974 was the last year of the C3 corvette big block.
@@TheDutchTexan thank you.
How much horsepower
That's a 35,000 dollar car I guess daddy loves him.
Nah, not even close.
Where's the other Corvette Review? 😛
Forthcoming... We have to get together again. Trust me though, it WILL happen!
+The Dutch Texan ok, greetings from germany ;)
Nice car like ♥️ i❤❤❤
less face, more car.................. please
+Chris Craft I can unfortunately only do so much. I try to splice in as many different camera angles as I can.
woon je al lang in Texas?
+derbi senda bijna 10 jaar!
nice!
I'm more interested in the mansions you're driving by
Check out zillow. You'll find more!
Its only running on 7 cylinders , you can see it arking, at the end of vidio
any 1973 corrvette that cam with a big block car you could not get those in california
Remember from 1957 to 1965 you could have had mechanical fuel injection. Trust me it was pure frustration trying to tune it up.
You didn't try the 1980 C3 BLACK BANDIT with a customize 454 ci Bigblock / 6 manual racing gear box and super 10 Flowmasters exhausts This car is totally madness & insane. :-)
If someone would allow me to drive it around I would totally make a video of it!
+The Dutch Texan : If you wiling to travel to the South of France ( Beside the town of Nice ), I will let let you drive one the most powerful Corvette C3 in Europe. We have roads when the crew of Top Gear ( Jeremy Clarkson / Richard Hammond / James May ) had been testing all types of super-cars ;-) But wait for next spring or summer if you want to drive The Black Bandit, weather is not great now.
Unfortunately I am not backed by a production crew! If I was I would travel the world to drive interesting and awesome cars!
