This is just a bit out of my tempo range, but I’ve struggled with many of these ideas because when I play more than 4 consecutive beats with my weaker hand I am in fact playing every stroke. When I studied with Joe Morello I used to ask him about the rapid-fire triplets he could play with his “weak” hand. He described it as catching the bounce. 27 years later I still can’t do it. I often wonder whether I’ve reached the plateau of my ability 🤕
I would suggest practicing the motion of those triplets in slow motion. If you really refine the motion and understand it at a verrrrry slow tempo, (40 bpm or even 30 or 20 if need be) then you should be able to increase the tempo eventually.🙌🏼
Love that stuff...I'm a huge flam guy....Jim Chapin had me doing the little motion..( push-pull ) in the 60's.I teach Moeller,Gruber,Adler, and Spivack to my students...Another great video.
Hey,, great lesson-- I’ve been working on the push pull but just on their own- I’m going to start doing them in flam exercises now-- very good Stanton, thanks.
Hey, Stanton. Always wanted to apologize for my sticks being broken when you played my drums at The Store in Chicago all those years ago. I’m sorry. Also, triple paradiddles are great for half-time grooves, if orchestrated correctly. :)
As we are all more or less results of push/pull technique I think it is only natural that it is the most natural way to play such an ancient instrument as a drum is. And how can one exist without an other, ying&yang, a tic and a toc. Up and down both too. I quess it is inevitable if one wants to hang around anywhere near their pocket to know how to push and pull all nite long🤔
Many thanks from France. You are a source of inspiration.👍🙌
