    Ron, you did it again. Another unbelievable successful recovery. You actually had me arm chair quarterbacking on this one. When you were under the trailer looking for a solid steel part to hook the chain to, I'm yelling the axle go for the axle. Too many years of pulling flat bed. Your not going to find much steel in an aluminum trailer. A lot of folks do not realize how dangerous this situation really was. You had the power lines in the way & guide cable that the truck was already resting on. You had the gas lines you pointed out. No room to position the rotator.Then you had the issue with the aluminum trailer where it is going to bend & twist every which way with the weight of the load. I have seen cars pulled sideways with the rim slings. Never have I seen 70-80,000 lbs pulled out side ways with a rim sling. That is amazing how it worked. God Bless You & Be Safe. I Love your videos, keep up the good work.

    • @RonPratt
      @RonPratt  7 лет назад

      You are correct. Most people will not realize how truly dangerous that job was. The RimSlings are extremely strong and have made finding attachment points much easier, especially on an aluminum trailer like this. As always, thanks for watching and God bless.

    Looks like another job well done, Ron. Next time you have occasion to speak to Miller (perhaps when you're thinking about your next unit), ask them to come up with a charging port or docking station so that in addition to the Miller remote always being charged and ready, your helmet cam can also be always charged and ready ! Lol... Of course, I'm kidding. I know you take the cams with you on different trucks for different jobs, when I saw you pull out the remote unit and then later when the footage was about to end due to the low battery it gave me that funny idea. Be safe out there everywhere.

      Psycho isn't the only one that calls it common sense. If I'm on the interstate and see someone on the side of the road, doesn't matter if it is an emergency vehicle or not, I move to the oppopsite lane and slow down to the minimum speed. Less if traffic flow is that slow.
      If I'm on a highway or city street, I slow *way* down, almost to a crawl, and give the vehicle and the people attending to it plenty of room. If it is a uniformed officer, I make sure he sees me going past so he knows he'se not going to get clipped.

    Ron, I swear! I was just watching another one of your older videos trying to catch up earlier today and I was thinking to myself (about your different winches) I've seen him use the white and blue so many times but I've never seen him use that green one and thought to myself "wonder what it's for". Now I know, lol.

    Just a FYI always try to find out how much voltage is running under or beside power lines. I am speaking from experience myself sir. In 1976 was doing a pick with enough room about 15,000 lift with a P&H Omega and asked the customer about power voltage and they told me 100,000 Volt's ok keep at least 15 feet away from lines. Well it was actually 250,000 Volt's and should have stayed at least 25 feet away. I was about 18 feet away and boom here comes voltage because out rigger's we're pulling ground. I pulled my feet up off metal floor and hands open on controls told rigger to run into trees on radio as I had boom coming down and winch in high gear sucking boom in as out rigger's coming up throttle wide open slamed into 8th gear ran through trees getting out of the path as spreaders blew holes in the ground as well as out rigger's. I am alive have arthritis 💯 percent of my body had to replace all bearings bushings pumps and my pants along with all fluids.

    As a former heavy construction employee that rig is more like a 25 ton crane than any "tow truck" I have been around but with lots of additional capabilities we never had on a crane. What a great rig for situations like you related to us in this one. Does that rig have self limiting sensors that shut down a lift if you exceed the capability of the truck? Given all the combinations that rig has I cannot imagine a manual doing it for you without an engineer figuring it out on the go.

    • @RonPratt
      @RonPratt  7 лет назад +9

      This is actually a 50 ton rotating recovery unit. It has load sensors and displays, but does not have overload automatic shut down, due to the fact that a straight winch out may exceed the lift ratings. I hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching and God bless.

    Ron am I correct in thinking you ran the chain outside the rub-rail because it is to big to go inside? When I pulled a flatbed I liked to keep everything inside the rail to keep from bending it (Aluminum trailer) or having to replace the tape so often. Have a safe day and God Bless.

    • @RonPratt
      @RonPratt  7 лет назад +2

      Yes the chain was way too large. Sometimes you work with what you have and get a bit creative. Thanks for watching and God bless.

    • @RonPratt
      @RonPratt  7 лет назад

      I hope you understand that we don't discuss fees on the public media sites. The charges vary from job to job and we don't want to share confidential information either. Often the jobs are paid by insurance or the individual company. There are a few occasions where we get stuck without pay. Those are the real pains. LOL Thank you for watching and I appreciate your interest. God bless.

    A question for you regarding riggig; I was always taught to have fewer points of failure in a line under stress, so by that standard why do you add a shackle to the end of the rimsling? In other words, why not connect the sling directly to the hook from the truck? What does adding the shackle do that I'm missing?
