@@BrandonBalfour Brandon just an idea … I’m wondering the different age groups that follow you. It would be an interesting question for you to ask. One of the things I’m always aware of is if what I’m wearing is age appropriate. For example there are actually items at A&F etc. that work for a guy my age.. not a lot but some items. 7:55 "Genuine Leather" is the second worst of the five tiers of leather. If you're investing in a leather bag (which, I would argue, is actually kind of a bad idea; canvas is more practical if you're travelling. Leather is okay if you're only going from car->office.), then you should look for full grain leather.
It's also important to think about when you buy things: if you shop at depatment stores a lot, it's worth it to buy summer clothes at the start of fall and winter clothes once spring comes in: usually stores try to clear out old stock to make room for the new collections that will be coming in next season. I got myself two pretty nice polos for a combined 12€ because I bought it during a clearout.
As for the leather section: I partly agree. It's ok to splurge on that if the money goes to leather quality and craftsmanship. If it goes to big labels, that would be a mistake. For instance: I bought some Aero Leathers jackets that are handmade to measure, using the best (Horween) leather. Those are timeliness and durable and will only get better over the years.
Honestly you said that someone would say this.. but I find very good quality denim at a price point of around $200-$300. There are all kinds of denim, and with denim along with all other fabrics you have to consider the fibers that they make the yarn from for the fabric as well as the construction of that fabric. That being said. I’ve found that denim that has 0% Lycra /elastane (non-stretch denim) to be of higher quality and longer lasting than denim that incorporates spandex. Then you have to consider the weight of the denim. This is measured in GSM or grams per square meter, and a good thick pair of denim, 500 gsm+ is just harder to find until you start looking into luxury brands. Now I’m saying this as someone who spends more on fashion, because it’s what I enjoy, just like other people enjoy going out to eat, traveling, or whatever I like fashion and fitness and that’s where I choose to invest. That being said this list is spot on… I think the denim could be in Smart spending though.
No glaze you're the best fashion RUclipsr there is. If I could suggest a video idea it'd be to make an extensive wardrobe checklist guide (i.e. most essential items to cop (good trousers, sweaters, shoes etc. + other things you need e.g. leather bag + things that are a bit extra but still worth investing into e.g. accessories). I know there is one already but I think a longer / more complete version with a tierlist (to prioritize) that includes price details would be wayyyy better (side note : in my mind when I am spending money I'm thinking about it in terms of hours that it takes me to earn said money, so say total cost of a top tier wardrobe is 5k I think the average viewer would visualize it way better). Sorry for the long winded, sort of chaotic comment, your content is top tier :)
@@BrandonBalfour I would watch a video like that every week to complete my wardrobe haha, also think it'd be pretty timeless! Thank YOU for considering the idea :)
@@wholesome7076 Ah that'd be so helpful haha I'm just starting out (bought my first item 9 days ago ((16yo)) so I would really find value in a video like that)
This is a great list that I agree with mostly. I don’t use duffel bags, but it’s definitely worth spending on a good timeless bag instead of switching bags once they break every year. Pretty much lines up with how I buy my clothes.
I think the first think you have to check is material, on Denim actually not all denim is denim as it is too usual to see % of elastan and that will be a problem on the future, or a Merino sweater that when you check the composition is 52% Merino and 48% cotton, etc.
That 'hybrid jacket' is gonna be the shortest-living trend that you'll be embarrassed you ever cared for. Right up there with those sweaters with fake collars that pretend there's a shirt underneath.
I used to buy crappy 60-100 cotton shirts until I discovered silk and merino wool. Now I’ll drop 250 for a shirt without blinking because it’s night and day. Bamboo and other new materials are also good.
Really? I found my merino wool and silk ones ended up getting ruined quite quickly as well. Obviously not as fast but the neck line would always get stretched out. Maybe it’s my massive head which is the issue 🤣
@@BrandonBalfour I recommend Unbound Merino for quality fashion merino that won’t stretch and Luca Faloni for silk - LF makes a gorgeous silk cotton dress shirt that is high quality (60% silk 40% cotton for a perfect blend). Not cheap though.
LV canvas lasts for 10 years plus and still looks like new...I don't care what the manufacturer costs are, but surely not 20$. Also your T-shirts get ruined fast because you spend 30$ on them, try something else for a change. I have T-Shirts for over 5-8 years which look like new.
One thing I've found usefull for those high rotation clothing such as socks, T-shirts and boxers is to have many of them so that you can rotate between each item. That way the items lasts longer since you don't wear the same clothing as often and they are also not as frequently washed. On the other hand, that would probably also go for any other item in the list.
Bought a good overcoat last winter, one of the best purchases I think I've ever made, it's the coat I wear the most! Looks great with scarves, sweaters, other coats, hoodies, jeans, dress pants, suits, it just looks good with anything!
I agreed with everything that you said here. Especially liked you commenting on the "brand tax" because so many items are overpriced due to the label and not even made with premium craftsmanship. I got an overpriced casual jacket from a designer brand, lasted me one season before the seams literally snapped. 100% Wool peacoat from a mid-level designer and this thing is built like a tank. Cost doesn't always equal value 👌🏾.
Completely unbiased take, so I have a 100% cashmere quarter zip from Loro Piana, I spent $1300, yes quite a bit, anyways it’s the best sweater I have ever owned hands down. So I will say yes it’s a bit much but I don’t mind what I paid I feel it’s worth it
Fair tier list. Denim jeans is the only stand out I disagree with for me. It’s worth spending more as for me I wear them every week so prefer pairs that last and look good. The duffle bag I tend to go cheapish since it’s meant to carry stuff so I don’t need something costly I don’t want to get damaged. With that said I do have leather ones I use sparingly for weekend getaways. Personally I tend to buy higher priced items on sale than go somewhere cheap to buy at their regular price. Just in general I avoid the low end of the market, stuff just doesn’t last and falls apart more easily.
Hi, I live in Europe. The hybrid knit cardigan from many brands in store or online on sale is a bargain, so $30+, not $300+. Boots, many, many online stores sell premium leather boots for 100-120 euros or maybe less. Loafers also. Polo shirts, what a joke, premium like Zegna for 120 euros, not to mention Joop, Lacoste, Polo, Tommy etc., even though any polo shirt is not worth more than 30 euros. Only Canada Goose-Moncler style puffer, leather travel bag, well tailored suit cannot be found easily for a cheaper price. So, I am sorry that you have to spend so much money on stuff that has much lower price in Europe. Nice video by the way :)
Everyone who has the money can buy obviously whatever they want. But let’s not forget that the price ranges from this video are so far away from what the average people can spend on the clothes…
I think I agree on most of the list, except for one big no and as someone else + yourself mentioned, its jeans. I used to buy jeans for €40-€130, but at this range you find a lot of elastane cotton (less than 90% cotton) mix which look trash or rip within a range of 1 to 6 months. With most of the cheaper jeans (
I got some $200 swim trunks once. It had a pocket with a clip & net bag so you could slip bottles of sun block of almost any size into it & carry it around with you. It also had back pockets that I used to carry cash in a zip lock bag in case I was walking on the beach & and happen to walk upon someone renting out jet ski's or selling food that I wanted to try on a whim. F'ing love those shorts & thought they were worth it. Everything else I agree with on your list, especially on invesring in good dress pants & coats. I just bought a new 3/4ths long over coat(car coat) in black from Charles Tywhitt & I'm saving up to get a red full length overcoat in tweed from suit supply as a statement piece for winter
Just want to let you folks know that pilling is normal when it comes to knit wear. You can use fabric shavers or special brushes to get that pilling off. It will extend the life of your knitwear. High quality knitwear can cost you more than 800$ and you might pass it on to your children.
Great tier list and I pretty much agree with all the placements. One thing I have found with jeans though is the really cheap ones tend to only last a few months due to the gusset area getting holes so I tend to spend around the top end of the low investment tier (about $80) to get ones with a better quality stitching
I bought some levis 502 the other day used, but in great condition on vinted for £16 ($20) which seems more or less average, even for new pairs on there (depop is another one that is worldwide) so I think it depends. You can also get crazy deals thrifting but that's obviously more hit and miss.
Denim is absolutely not just denim. Denim isn't a material, it's a stitching pattern. There is a wide variety of different qualities of denim, and on top of that, denim is one of the trousers where silhouette is often prioritized, and better designs are often more expensive. my entire wardrobe is mostly just lululemon. from shorts, to swimming trunks, to active pants, to t shirts, to underwear, and even to polos, dress shirts, and chinos. my socks are all merino wool, and i have a patagonia down jacket as my main jacket because i feel like my canada goose is way too heavy, too bulky, and too warm. for dressing up, along with my lululemon chinos and dress shirts, i have leather belts i got for 50 dollars and allen edmond dress shoes i got for 400 dollars. i will admit, i got a regular synthetic blazer from mens warehouse for like 200 dollars that i regret. i shouldve splurged. and honestly i just have regular patagonia sweaters. no cashmere or wool pieces really besides merino wool socks. and i still use a backpack lol no duffle for me. i would've loved to see your backpack recommendation. unless you think it should always be duffle. edit: oh yeah i also never wear jeans lol
I think it's funny that you put boots in the $300-$800 range (which they are) but show two screenshots of boots from Thursdays and fail to mention them as a cheaper alternative. Prob just an error on ur editor's part. That Chukka boot specifically is the Scout and costs $160 and the one at 5:27 is the Captains which are $200. It's a great entry level brand or for ppl who want a more streetwear casual style boot and don't like that big toe cap seen on boots like the Iron Rangers (which im glad ur editor showed)
I agree with all of these, even though I'm a teen and don't need all of this stuff. Also its good to point out a lot of this is area dependant, you put in a lot of cold weather jackets which makes sense in Canada but not so much in Australia or other places where it doesn't get below 0
When I hear investments in terms of clothing I think it’s meant in the sense you keep it for a long time. You’re spending more money or investing in this. It’s a way of justifying the higher price since it’s not something you’ll replace next year or so.
Watches are a little tricky, you know how the watch industry is with their prices haha. I’m personally comfortable with $500 - $3000 range for watches. At my current stage in life that’s where I’m at. I can’t ever imagine spending 10k plus on a watch lol. I like car mods more
I think that high quality belt can lift the whole outfit, thinking that 100-180€ is reasonable, designer belts like feragamo and tom ford arent bad investment too (no big flashy logos like hermes and gucci ofc), price per wear is like few cents and they last you 8-10 years...
Brandon please would you do a video on how different pants should fit. Straight, slim, tapered, etc. How it may differ depending on shoes, type of pants, or style of outfit.
I agree with the list but what I've learned from a lot , a lot of shopping mistakes is to spend on items you use often. No you're not gonna get a good suit for $400 but if you wear it once a year, maybe twice - why spend more? I wear jeans and T shirts everyday for work, I would put more money into these.

Would argue it is hard to find a good quality leather jacket for 800$ CAD (around 500€?)! Rather buy something from a leather expert around the 1k-2k€ mark and have it for a live time. It will age with you and never go out of style!

my entire wardrobe is mostly just lululemon. from shorts, to swimming trunks, to active pants, to t shirts, to underwear, and even to polos, dress shirts, and chinos. my socks are all merino wool, and i have a patagonia down jacket as my main jacket because i feel like my canada goose is way too heavy, too bulky, and too warm. for dressing up, along with my lululemon chinos and dress shirts, i have leather belts i got for 50 dollars and allen edmond dress shoes i got for 400 dollars. i will admit, i got a regular synthetic blazer from mens warehouse for like 200 dollars that i regret. i shouldve splurged. and honestly i just have regular patagonia sweaters. no cashmere or wool pieces really besides merino wool socks. and i still use a backpack lol no duffle for me. i would've loved to see your backpack recommendation. unless you think it should always be duffle. edit: oh yeah i also never wear jeans lol
Bro lululemon is the best for quality at its price, I don’t blame you. You can wear lulu for everything
watch every single one of these videos man, good stuff!
Thank you for the support my man!
No way bro made it through the winter jackets without mentioning Vancouver weather 😂
Haha you honestly just need a rain jacket. It doesn’t get that cold here it just pours 😂
Haha yeah it’s just the clearest pictures he could find on the internet to use. Not meant to be brand suggestions.
brandon its time for a full fragrance collection!🙏🙏 PLS
I ca see the production quality getting better and better with every video 😏
I agree with all of these, even though I'm a teen and don't need all of this stuff. Also its good to point out a lot of this is area dependant, you put in a lot of cold weather jackets which makes sense in Canada but not so much in Australia or other places where it doesn't get below 0
Brandon the perfect video I got from you, I was deciding to go shopping it will help a lot. Thanks mah boiii ❤
Glad I could help mah boiii
Great video, Brandon🎉
Are hard bleached blue jeans a buy or pass when building a clean wardrobe?
This video is epic man wish I knew these gems years ago
I’m happy you found value bro!
bro where did you buy your quarter zipper from .?
I actually have a great cashmere hoodie from Aime Leon Dore pre LVHM that I love
No clothing is really "investments", resale value is always much lower
When I hear investments in terms of clothing I think it’s meant in the sense you keep it for a long time. You’re spending more money or investing in this. It’s a way of justifying the higher price since it’s not something you’ll replace next year or so.
You always knock me out with your videos haha 💜
you should do a video about how to store/organize your wardrobe!
let’s go bro brandon video dropped
Ayyy appreciate you showing up homie!
Cashmere hoodies are the best
Why is there a man with a string at 0:45 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣
Bros background is just 🔥
haha thanks man! I'm thinking that maybe I should do an updated apartment tour.
@@BrandonBalfour that would be awesome. I never found that Hermes blanket on your sofa.
Class video mate!!!
This was super helpful. Thanks Brandon as always!
glad it was worth the watch broski!
Brandon, loved this. Now make a clothing brand tierlist
with all these clothes we need to know what your closet looks like!
Loved the video Brandon very helpful!
another great video 🔥
Bro this is indeed a high quality video, but Im missing jewellery and watches
Watches are a little tricky, you know how the watch industry is with their prices haha. I’m personally comfortable with $500 - $3000 range for watches. At my current stage in life that’s where I’m at. I can’t ever imagine spending 10k plus on a watch lol. I like car mods more
Damn these Chinos you wear at 13:17 are sick! Do you have a link? I can't seem to find them 😢
I think that high quality belt can lift the whole outfit, thinking that 100-180€ is reasonable, designer belts like feragamo and tom ford arent bad investment too (no big flashy logos like hermes and gucci ofc), price per wear is like few cents and they last you 8-10 years...
LV canvas is arguably more durable and feels more premium than leather used by most brands
tissot prx is my favourite watch and your wearing it
Brandon please would you do a video on how different pants should fit. Straight, slim, tapered, etc. How it may differ depending on shoes, type of pants, or style of outfit.
Biggest investment: Ross and TJ maxx
I agree with the list but what I've learned from a lot , a lot of shopping mistakes is to spend on items you use often. No you're not gonna get a good suit for $400 but if you wear it once a year, maybe twice - why spend more? I wear jeans and T shirts everyday for work, I would put more money into these.
Great video!
Brandon! would love to know your thoughts on Peter Millar! They make a lot of great golf stuff but also regular stuff too! You might find some good pieces there!
I’ll take a look, thank you for the suggestion!
W video Brandon 💪
Much love my G!
Your content is life saving! Thank you!
Glad you are finding value bro! trying to put out the most in depth content possible!
Hey Brandon, what is the quarter zip you're wearing at 3:49?
Ralph Lauren bro!
@@BrandonBalfour Thanks!
So glad I watched this video now I know how to make my new wardrobe! Can u make a video for the best church cloths some being formal and some being more casual clothing
you need to get a depiller for your sweaters. a good wool sweater from long fibers can last a lifetime.
Morgan Freeman voiceover: he was not kidding 1:36
Bro, I'm looking to make a decent investment in a time piece, The Tissot PRX looks fabulous but I also like the Longines DolceVita, if you were in my place which one would you pick? Love your videos though😁 keep them coming!!
I wear my tissot 10x more often than my longines so definitely the tissot
@@BrandonBalfour Thanks for the opinion G😄
Yes! Thank you for this!
You're so welcome!
GREAT content, so well presented and joyful, I had my duffle bag in the 'splurge' section, and I am glad I did that, the bag becomes more beautiful every year actually (Leather)... If I may add this to the great vid ☺
Would you recommend a sheepskin jacket as your winter jacket?
I’ve honestly never owned one before but they look super warm ngl 😂
Bro's side swipe at H&M and that is where I buy my things😂😂😂😂
Would argue it is hard to find a good quality leather jacket for 800$ CAD (around 500€?)! Rather buy something from a leather expert around the 1k-2k€ mark and have it for a live time. It will age with you and never go out of style!
When you get a tier list from Justin Bieber 💀
it's colder outside we seem to forget gloves can you find some good ones?
I’ve honestly never worn gloves for other than snowboarding haha. Although I have had instances where my hand are about to fall off when I’m just walking around the city haha. I’ll take a look into it!
Agnelle my brother
@@BrandonBalfour appreciate it man
Another banger🔥 Are you making another winter wardrobe video this year?
Yeah in Dec my brother!
@@BrandonBalfour Nice, looking forward to it💯
How do you stay old money aesthetic when doing very casual things like going for a walk or to the grocery shop or something chill
red thongs HAHAHAHA anw, love your vids bro!
😂
I feel like Tiebar polos are really nice and well under $100 like you suggested…agree with the rest of the video though. Nice work

Natural materials for boxers is the biggest myth out there, nylon and polyester are 100% okay for boxers but the overpriced marketing companies like Manmade want you to believe that nothing is good besides their fabric.
Wearing plastics, especially where your genitals are, is a bad idea
I know you put denim fairly low on the list but how do you feel about your new suit supply dark gray jeans. Would you say they're worth the money?
