    The Harlem Globetrotters had the most appearances in The New Scooby-Doo Movies.
    They appeared in that show 3 times, twice for Don Knotts, twice again for Batman & Robin and twice once again for The 3 Stooges.

      It's definitely a very mixed bag even as someone enjoying it. For every good joke there are probably a couple back to back that fall flat or worse. I think the actual mystery/plot and characterizations have settled well over halfway in though. At worst, it's a mid-tier mystery-comedy with amazing production values so I don't think I'll ever understand why it's treated like it's the worst thing to ever happen to humanity. I watch it for what it is, not what it isn't, and it serves that purpose decently.

    The Ghostly Creep from the Deep and the Mystery of Haunted Island are two of my favorite episodes from the season. I also do agree with you about the "fake" laugh track. Fake is right! For those of you who are unaware, Hanna-Barbera had a full laugh track from 1960 to 1971 on various media, including Where Are You, the Globetrotters' series, and Josie. And then afterwards they made it worse by extracting six laughs from the real track to a recorder, and you will hear those six laughs incessantly for the rest of the decade. As much as I like Hanna-Barbera, I think it was a pretty cheap move on their part!

There were legitimate, real games, as well as slapstick events where they hammed it up, performing wacky stunts, prearranged with the other teams., Okay, no stacking on each other's shoulders, but all kinds of wacky hi-jinx that would, as you surmised, be against he rules.

    In actuality, The Globetrotters were actually an exhibition team that toured around playing against local teams of the cities they visited. They mostly did silly stunts during the game and were not like an official NBA team. They not only had adventures in cartoons, but also made a live action guest appearance in the tv movie, The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island, where they help the castaways save their themed hotel from a greedy competitor of the Howels and their robotic players.

    14:50 - Yeah, can we talk about Scooby Doo and how there are multiple references to the Confederacy and the Civil War? In Zombie Island, the story takes place at a Pepper Plantation and in Boo's Brothers, Shaggy's great uncle owned a Plantation. And in 2002 What's New Scooby Doo, the episode Big Scare in the Big Easy” the ghosts were Confederate soldiers. Would make for an interesting video
    Also, loved this video, loved the Globetrotters as a kid and as a huge fan of basketball, I found them very entertaining.

      It wasn't presented in a positive way, but it still raises eyebrows that it was mentioned as much as it was. It makes me wonder if the show runners were related to plantation owners, or did they just find the Civil War interesting? Still love Scooby Doo regardless, but it's still strange.

    • @Scoobytopia
      @Scoobytopia  Год назад +1

      I would say Americana is rooted in the show just in general. Even the music score of the original series itself if you listen to it alone is full of old Americana folk songs woven into it in a way that evokes that specific imagery. The episode where they find confederate money, the amount of Confederate soldiers that show up, Fred telling Uncle Nat "that's the Yankee spirit" in this episode... it's present enough to be hard to ignore. Scooby and Shaggy both canonically having confederate relatives that are looked up to suggests it's also an inclusion with positive intention on some historical level. I would love to examine how deep it runs, but I would be terrified of the people it would attract lol. Even making a clear joke about Scrappy and friends being racist when they dressed up in Native American costumes in my Scooby family tree video has had many weird (white) dudes pop up to call me a soyboy and say Native Americans don't care and love it. I can only imagine how bad they would be if I spent more than a small bit discussing it, and how many times they would say I'm trying to cancel Scooby or something despite a channel full of love.

      @@Scoobytopia Yeah, I completely get how people would overreact and claim that you're just trying to hate. Completely up to you if you wanna make that video, although I'm sure most of your audience would understand it's just an analysis and that you aren't saying Scooby Doo is bad or it should be canceled. It would be an interesting video idea, overall I think most people love Scooby Doo and while the Confederate references are unfortunate, I think most people look at Scooby Doo in a positive manner.

      I don't think I've ever found anything of this kind in Scooby uncomfortable or awkward anyway, I always think it's very funny lol. Yet even when I am clearly joking, it's never taken as such. Honestly, it will probably happen someday, I said I would never make the queer Velma video and still did. I've been taking notes for months and low-key thinking about it haha

      Three reasons 1. HB already had the likenesses of the team and as they weren't voiced by the members they were cheaper to use. 2. during the time frame they were big stars why do you think they had 2 cartoons one before and one after the NSDM? 3. given the preexisting cartoons they likely already had animation cells they could reuse

    I enjoyed the Globetrotters because it was the first to show black people in a children shows that wasn't too racist. Yes, there were some racism. I say that as you said some of them weren't voiced by black actors. Since it was the 1970s that there were a few racial stereotypes of how black people were seen back then and thankfully the Scooby-Doo Gang didn't use the N word and I am grateful for it. Well, I enjoyed them because I like how they show more well known celebrities even from back then.

    I never watched much of the Scooby Doo Movies much as a kid. In part because not being American, I don't think I often had the pop cultural references needed to really understand who these new guests where. It's a pity because it's kind of fun to see the rest of the gang get more comedy bits.
