Architecture is the best choice to make since it open many doors to other field that can make architecture more engaging any enjoyable. Such fields would be photography, writing business, construction, and filming . There's many more openings but for me, I don't regret deciding on this career and can't wait to be apart of the great architects!
"MIllennials are changing how Architecture" Goes on to describe the mindset of literally every Architect I've met, no matter if they're 70 or 20. When are we gong to stop acting like Millennials are special
I agree. Does any one group or category of people really affect the overall structure and workings of a society? Perhaps in a monolithic society but not in very pluralistic society.
Architecture is like motherhood, every structure you create is like a child, no two alike. Through the process there are tears, joy, pain, growth, stress, sleepless nights, love and too many unbillable hours. You eventually let it go and then has a life of its own.
I'm an architect and it's great to know so many things, from photography to furniture design. But the pay is low and a 9 to 5 job is not going bring a lot of satisfaction. The only way to succeed in this career is to work in your own office or associated with some colleagues.
That's great! I am a mechanical engineer by academics but very interested in the architecture. Can you please tell me how are you studying it on your own ?
Well, Am a Kenyan Architect and here in Kenya Architects are paid anywhere between 6% and 15% Of the total cost of an Architectural Structure or project that means if a building costs $500,000 to construct that means 6% of that cost is yours a cool $30,000 and 15% of that if u are lucky is a cool $75,000 and u can have as many projects as u can handle. The government employed Architects are paid anywhere between $8000 to $35000 a month the tax rate here is not so high and so that is equally good pay, however working for a privately owned firm is 10 times better because according to the deal u make with your boss u can earn as much money as u possibly can in fact, architects back here live exemplary lives some who are well established even live better than politicians themselves they drive sleek machines, beautiful houses and expensive sports cars. I think it all has to deal with demand, country, place of work and all that stuff.
You did an excellent job on this. Very impressive. I’ve been in this business 22 years and have had my own architecture firm since 2010 and you’ve covered every point very, very well, including start up costs. I’m in South Florida. USA.
To me, architecture is more enjoyable than medicine and engineering but if the pay of architecture , stability and ability to use technical skills would be more comparable, I’d go for it… in that case I’d probably choose engineering though I absolutely love architecture
I had my own business for a while (8 yrs) doing architectural and engineering drafting. Yeah - it's a crazy field, and parts of it were a lot of fun, but the crash of 2008 put 'Paid' to my business. Not going in that direction again.
I don't know about anyone but I'm working hard to get both master degree of architecture and structural engineering. These 2 combination architecture and structural engineering is the ultimate way to become grand master of designing and infrastructure, making mroe money than docters and lawers.
As someone who is trying to create a comic series, I do need architecture skills, yes I do have some couple of cities in my mind that I am trying to draw but still I need more and it is hard to take your Idea to the paper.

As an Interior Designer (of 40 yrs) IMO which can be more fulfilling and creative than architecture, that can get pigeon holed doing the same thing ( bathrooms) over and over again whereas ID gets to create more space conceptualization and more directly affect the user . I'm finishing up my Bsc Architecture at University of Jos Nigeria and am planning on going to Bartlett school of architecture in London which is my dream and honestly I think, no I KNOW architecture is worth it. Thank you Alux for making one bout my field of passion ❤❤❤ I'm Tiger.
Risks are not taken by the architects.... Rather it should b taken by the client... By choosing the best designer or builder... Architectural ideas are very costly too... N some are bad too
I really thought about becoming an an architect but I decided on engineering when I discovered I really wanted to design more efficient building heating methods in a sturdy building that was less costly to build. Architects are nearer to art and after I would design a house I would ask the architect to make it look appealing but don't change the cost and low heating costs! So far product designers and architects hate me.
Years ago I tought than games such as Sim City will inspire the news generations to build creative Cities and Building... and the dream came reality (look at the Singapoure airport) There's never been a better time to be alive... Congratulations to all creative architects... We Need you to build a better world and better places to live...
Don’t be fooled, you can work for one of the best like fosters and partners and earn peanuts. All those levels for a mere average salary could never be me
Hello people at ALUX. you guys are doing great job. make a video which connects architecture like construction industry or civil engineering. Civil engineers are the once who create a life for which architect design. It will be continues video where others can learn more about it.
Probably not worth it to get master's in US. You need 90+ credit hours or 3yrs for non-architecture bachelor's degrees. Can' speak for other countries.
Now the Sims has come full circle and the use of the Sims as a medium for content creators using it as a building and design game is rampant, bringing more attention to that side of Architecture.
I’m done with my grad from india & now I’m going to do my master’s in architecture from Australia. Is it worth doing & is settle down in Australia as an architect is easy as comparison to India?
Number 9 is not new, the corporate/industry bubbles are very old look at mining towns or places like Secunda (South Africa) because of SASOL. Maybe we can say, the concept is being improved or modernized to better serve the company.
I would add that it does require a special kind of skillset to succeed in this profession. These are skills that are often not learned. I tend to agree with this assertion.
I am curious, what makes a beautiful country beautiful? is it the people, their money, or their culture? I believe is a combination of all but specifically , why people love visiting more European countries than African or south American countries? i am just curious you know. and why people love them more than any other continent in the world? No-one really knows how much an architect makes, because they won't tell you! Truthfully, the range is on the lower end for professional careers. However, if you stick with it long enough and become a boss in a big firm, you will do just fine.
I concur. Most of this was fluff and not grounded in fact. Some of it was conjecture. Architecture is practiced different across the globe. This may not apply in your situation.
Fear Kratos I think you already know the answer to that question. Hahaha. Try to have other sources of income, as in investments, businesses (check out shopify, at least it’s a start with very little money) or set up your own studio (it is not as complicated as they picture it here, well except for the fact that you do need some years of experience and take the ARE). Begin small and then keep growing. I work for a big firm, hence, it’s very corporate/bureaucratic and the work culture it’s just not in sync with mine (I prefer small studios and European haha)
