I have one book about the rules and fake-history of Quidditch and it says "old games of quidditch, before the balls were enchanted to stay on the pitch, some games would end very far away from where the game started" which I think is hilarious

The meta for winning games quickly was just to pass the ball back and forth between two of your players because that was the quickest way to move your snitch half on the top across the screen to end the game, btw did anyone ever win the World Cup? Swear I played like 50+ matches in that mode and it never bloody ended
Yeah it just takes forever. You have to play each team twice, once in your opponent's home stadium and once in your own.

I loved this game as a child, I got all the cards available (winning against every opponent on every difficulty etc., crazy grinding). The passing combinations and team-skilled-goals were awesome. Too bad Micky has not discovered how it works :( Looking for a part 2 after he reads comments!
Doing combo goals fills it faster than just passing it
The World Cup is 18 rounds, it takes forever to beat.
I beat the world cup with every team when I was 10. it was easy when I learned how to combo passes. (on keyboard I think its 7 and 9) also some ultimates are just broken. how can a team do multiple goals combo and no one finds it odd or against the rules
I know some people love the other Harry Potter games for the memes and nostalgia, but this one was the GOAT for me. I spent so many hours playing against friends on all sorts of teams. I kinda wish they made more or made this into a series. Just imagining this on modern hardware with current gen graphics is enough to make me excited.
Also the special moves and shots in this game blew my 10 year old mind. It seems like a simple game at first but theres more to it than meets the eye here.

@@JakNasty69 I’m hoping that Hogwarts legacy will at least have an interesting take on quidditch gameplay like this game does! Though I’d love to see a separate remake of a quidditch game as well. Online pvp sounds so chaotic and fun.
with the outcry for online quidditch in hogwarts legacy. i don’t really see why they wouldn’t capitalize.. assuming quidditch isnt in legacy i really don’t think a quidditch expansion/dlc is far fetched. especially since they have a massive customization feature already built in which everyone would love to carry online anyway. especially different broom types and maybe even moves through your trait system. aggressive/evasive type animations unlocked through certain levels. behind the back passes, kicking the quaffel it may be too much but if i’m playing with my character against someone else online those type of unique characteristics would be truly next level.. being able to choose from a list of characters in game, and that you’ve created and played with and maybe even creating teams?? probably could be another game but to just have it all right there on one game utilizing things people already grind would be OP

The way your snitch meter goes up is whenever a successful pass is completed. This includes passes from the keeper to the chasers which are never intercepted. Also the game ends once the snitch is caught so you can't "Catch 2 snitches".
Its easy at the start to pass alot and just get 160 points. If you can do it right you'll have the same boost as the other seeker and its way easier to catch it if you get a good snitch path. The later game really wants you to balance everything the tutorials taught us at the beginning.
Honestly it is really bad design to heavily reward a bunch of passing and basically not reward shooting at all. Much like the questions we all had reading the books and/or watching the movies "If the snitch is worth 150 and ends the game, what the fuck is even the point of the goals in the first place." The sport would be way better if it has some spellcasting involved and was a bunch of people trying to sabotage the opposing seeker while protecting their own with each role having particular spells they can cast. Oh and keep the beaters and bludgers, that bit is actually good. I mean it is a wizard world but their seemingly only sport is so mundane by comparison, all it has over regular sports is enchanted sports equipment.
Almost like the person who invented it vaguely forgot they were making a MAGICAL WORLD and put some vaguely magic things in with mundane shit.
@@ShiningDarknes in books you could win without snitch collecting, as you either get difference in points or you collect snitch and have more points. You could win by 160 150, just by collecting snitch with one goal or you still could lose with 160 150, when opponent only scores are from snitch. In game they just ignored the fast of score difference, so I got to situation, where I had 999 score.
The hufflepuff dude was Cedric Diggory and the Ravenclaw girl was Cho Chang

Also Micky D: Quickly steals the ball every time and never passes it, meaning the only time the Snitch progress bar moves is when the keeper throws the ball back into play.

To be fair, these haunting, dead, round faces on these characters was a HUGE improvement from the haunting, dead, SQUARE faces we had been experiencing up to that time! I remember obsessing about this game at the time, it was so great for world building.
Ireland not being in the game is weird since the Irish team is presented in much detail in Goblet of Fire. They could even have lifted the names straight from the book like they did with Bulgaria
Aren't Ireland also multiple time Quidditch world champions? I have a feeling none of the devs gave a crap about the lore.
@@SimielBlack This game actually does have some references to the lore, the "Snidget" in this video is what Quidditch was played with before the Snitch was invented. "Queerditch Marsh", the birth place of Quidditch is actually an unlockable stadium. That said your right about Ireland being a strange omission, especially when Bulgaria and Victor Krum are playable.

1. The intro song is Dies Irae from Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem and is in the public domain so royalty free.
2. The Golden Snidget is what quidditch players used to catch before Golden Snitches were invented by Bowman Wright. They are magical birds the size of hummingbirds except gold and ball shaped. Their numbers dwindled due to being crushed by seekers when caught in Quidditch games so a replacement was needed and the Snitch was invented. You can read about them in Quidditch through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

My mother dragged me out of the house once when this first came out because I'd been playing it all morning... She took me to an electronics store and they had it in a demo cabinet so i just played it there while she looked around 😂

To be fair, the game gets really complex later on and fun. I used to love pulling off the tricks and I believe each team has their own unique flair. I believe the Japan team can kick the ball to pass it too each other.
World cup was the real game. I remember me and my sister played it all the time and it took ages to win the finale against Bulgaria.

From what I remember. Catching the Snitch ends the match and gives the team that caught the snitch 150 points.
This does not mean that this team wins. As the other team can still have more points when the other team catches the snitch.
But you can immediately gun for the snitch and if the opponents have less than 15 scores you win regardless
If I recall correctly, Ravenclaw is the only team in the entire game (including the actual World Cup teams) whose special move nets you 3 goals. All other teams' moves only net you 1 or 2 goals.
This is true! I liked to play as them. It was weird, though, why they were the only one.
Gryffindor’s special move I sort of thought was pretty crap.

Honestly this was one of my favorite games back in the day. I'm surprised we haven't seen a remake of it on modern hardware.
Love this game. Playing in the world cup feels surprisingly epic even if the ai just gives up and lets you score like there's no tomorrow.
I believe the Snitch is worth 150 points.. If you've been beating them past that and they haven't scored a single time, it wouldn't matter if they caught it, They'd still lose, considering the Snitch is an automatic close to a game.
And what a stupid, stupid, stupid contrived rule that is, honestly. "Oh you get just enough points that unless they were totally dominating you, you win!" Shoulda had it more like tennis where if you score X points over them without the thing being caught, you win. But then they couldn't have "A six month long game!"
@@Chronische the games don't take long you just have to actually pass the ball to move the snitch bar, just stealing early on and throwing into the goals takes bloody forever as evident, so the snitch actually serves as a balancer to get you to not do that

I honestly believe this is the best game of the franchise imo because it really had no right being good but it was so addicting and fun it was way ahead of its time. I wish it did become an e sport like fifa and it still annoys me they haven't done a modern online quiditch game it would make so much money and be so popular

I feel like an extreme dorknozzle for knowing this, but originally Quiddich was played by using snigit birds. The Golden Snitch was invented to be a mechanical replacement for snigit birds, since the birds often got hurt and had a habit of just wandering off and making the game technically unwinable.
Also I’m pretty sure it was made illegal to catch the snigets because they became an endangered species so Harry was breaking the law in this game lol

Katie Bell's voice is definitely the voice of Hermione in Prisoner Of Azkaban. Harry's voice her is also his voice from Azkaban. I guess it makes sense since they were only released a year apart from each other. The song they keep repeating is verdi's requiem - dies irae btw, which is sorta odd to choose considering it normally symbolizes death.
as a stupid fun fact that for some reason i remember reading these books over a decade ago. at one point some one catches the snitch and loses the game bc your team gains 150 point and the game immediately ends. if you were losing so hard that 150 points and your still behind you immediately lose the game XD

You get Snitch gauge by passing, (especialy "combo passing) etc, not by just throwing goals
the reasson the game took so long was because you foccused on only throwing goals and not passing the quaffle around
This game was so good because they only had to focus on quidditch. I played this for hours when I was a kid.

The Irish Quidditch team is the Nordic Team in the game. There is too many countries so they had to mix cultures to fit their number of teams.

God i remeber christmas getting this game all my cousins drove down from houston and we lived in a small town home in Nacogdoches, Tx christmas lights all over the house the tree my room was connected to the dining room and den i had a love seat in my room we moved it close to the tv and we could see out hear the noise of all my family talking while we were playing this you talk about one of the happiest memories of my life playing this game
The snitch is a fundamental flaw in Quidditch. If it was worth 50 points instead of 150, it would make the rest of the game much more impactful. As it is, it feels like the only two players that matter are the seekers.
If I remember correctly in the game there’s an achievement thing for beating a team while failing to catch the snitch basically you just have to cheese the game score more than 150 then act brain dead in the snitch catching segment.
They need to remake this game on PS5 with modern graphics and physics that would be awesome and have Way more teams and an online mode it would be Like watching the Ireland vs Bulgaria match that we never got to see in the movies

The best part of this game were the stadiums, they all looked FANTASTIC to play at and the team special moves were spectacular. I loved the Australian team surfing on their brooms or the Bulgarian team steamrolling the other team.
I was never into video games but I always liked this one because it was easy and relaxing after a long day.

Me and my brother played this together for 3 years straight when we were kids. Never read the book but my god was this game addicting.

Not quite how it works, but I appreciate outside of the box thinking.
The game ends when the Snitch is caught. Which can take days or weeks apparently. Which awards the points in addition to ending the game. There is a plot point in one of the books about Harry needing to wait until Gryffindor was up by a certain amount of points before catching the snitch so they'd win the league so there's some sort of Cricket/Football points system.
The Snidget is what was used before the Snitch was invented. I think it was an animal rights thing that caused the switch or maybe over hunting leading to the Snidgets near extinction.
Was it ever explained if anyone other then the seeker could catch the Snitch? Clearly it's the seekers job and they'd be focused on it but I can't imagine one of the other positions hasn't accidentally caught it on a reflex if it was heading towards them.
Also what if the Snitch was somehow destroyed? The beaters do have clubs and smash a bludger around. Not hard to believe a snitch could get clipped by the Bludger or an errant club.

Didn't even get to show the cutscene combos of scoring goals, this was even more dissapointing than quitting too early in Lego Island 1. The Spain stadium was wonderful.
I remember I couldn't for the life of me catch the snitch in this game, so I would make sure to make an outrageous amount of points so that even when the other team got it, I'd still win.
Was really funny to watch my team always get depressed in the cutscenes even after we won

Catching the snitch awards you 150 points when caught, then ends the game. However, if you didn't get enough points during, you can technically lose the game still, even if you catch it.
This is a side story from the fourth book that I somehow remember, where Fred & George have a sidebet going for the Quidditch game at the beginning at the story; they said one team would catch the snitch, but the other team would win. Pretty sure they won too.
