- «If you've done nothing wrong, you've got nothing to worry about». Maybe it started with our parents, asking you to confess and promising not to get angry. Maybe from your teachers, who wanted to encourage a willingness to be truthful with authority. But nowadays, it's more common to hear, «you have nothing to fear, if you have nothing to hide». Nobody wants to be in fear, nobody wants to be in danger, right?
So we start to give up some of our rights for the greater good of society. Plus we think we have nothing to hide - so it's no big deal.
Is giving up ours rights to privacy worth it? Do you really understand how much info we are really giving away? Let's find out!

Happy to bring you guys our next video on a very important topic - mass surveillance. Do you feel safer knowing you're being watching literally and digitally? Tell us in the comments!
I feel violated, I don’t like it. I don’t want the government or anyone to know more about me then a distant friend
I feel safe, it can act as a proof for evidence.
Keep up the good work ❤️
Edward Snowden's most forgotten quote: Arguing you don't care about privacy because you have nothing to hide is like saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say.
I think that quote isn't as effective as it could be. I prefer this one better: "You can't control who's looking, when they are and for what, nor how they're looking or interpreting." Virtaully everyone has something to hide from someone...
I think the whole "I have nothing to hide" is dumb. Everyone has something to hide. I can't remember who the quote was from but u remember it goes "give me 3 sentences from the most honest man alive, and I will find something by which to hang him".
I love that quote. It completely changed my perspective on privacy back when I was first hearing about this stuff and didn’t understand why I was supposed to care.
@@clared5812 when I first heard about us losing privacy, the word "privacy" was already being spitroasted on the 9/11 buildings.
The outcome was predictable, yet nobody anticipated it was this bad.
Yes, but Snowden is a traitor and deserves to rot in jail.
the way many have been hypnotized to give away their privacy is scary - this is a powerful video 💯
The best way to convince someone to right of privacy:
Ask to watch them shower. or do number two. And record it. And let someone else watch it. BUT don't tell when or where you're gonna record.
Or who you're going to show it to, either!
Exactly.
what if they say "i don't trust you specifically, but i don't mind my data being transferred encrypted in exchange of ultimate convenience"
I was just telling my brother on why he should not sit beside anyone who dosen't like it when they are doing something. So he said that if you're doing nothing wrong why hide it so I told him, "When you shit you're doing nothing wrong but you don't want others to sit beside you and look at you,do you?" He got the point😂
If someone says they have nothing to hide,
ask them to unlock their phone and give it to you.
Yeah, nobody will do that.
"Hey, what's your password, address, mother's maiden name and those digits on the back of your card?"
"Hey, you smartass, you know exactly what I meant by that"
"Not how it works in the real world, buddy... anyway, I think I've got them, BRB gotta shop"
yeah.. i wouldn't give it to random individuals but if you were the army or the police
I would just "here, take it" why? because I don't want random people to see the hentai on my phone that I have downloaded
LOL
@@Gokaes: That assumes the officer won’t judge you for having hentai, and that having it won’t bias people against you for one…
"If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear"
@@Gokaes Even in the unlikely event that you fully trust your local authorities, what about autorities in other countries, like say Russia, China, or North Korea? It's called the WORLD wide web for a reason, and if your government can access the data, then so can everyone else.
To the people who say they have nothing to hide I ask: why do you close the curtain at night if you have nothing to hide?
Great analogy :)
I don't close curtains(
good analogy, but in my case its because my window faces the sunrise so it needs a little work
I always ask those people for their phone password. Even if you have nothing to hide - you have something valuable to take. If you don’t want strangers having access to everything on your phone, then you need to care about privacy.
I OPEN them at night. 😜
The government will soon think that I'm an amateur criminal because I watch Sumsub so much...
There's one more: what's legal now may become illegal in the future but data can be used against someone retroactively
And then there's the fact that this is usually portrayed as having something to hide *from the government*. I trust my government _somewhat_, but who I don't trust are the bad actors who might want the data I'm giving to the government, whether those bad actors are hardened criminals, or just someone who puts my phone number in a list to be robocalled.
You might have nothing to hide from The Man, but you defiantly have things to hide from John from Microsoft, who says there is a wirus on your dextop computor!
When I talk to people about this and they say "I have nothing to hide", I ask them how they'd feel about random strangers walking in their house any time they want, watching them sleep, watching their children go about thier day, using the bathroom, etc. That usually gets them to think.
I've said "ok, open up your wallet and let me see both sides of your credit card". Maybe you don't have anything to hide from today's government, maybe you don't even have anything to hide from tomorrow's government, but you certainly have something to hide from bad actors, whoever they may be loyal to.
I don't usually have anything to hide yet I always feel uneasy when I'm being watched by CCTV cameras. How do I get rid of this irrational uneasiness? :(
Watch mainstream media, obviously!
I felt the same way too when I started hearing _all_ about these important devices in our lives, but ever since my family managed to get me to sit down for some news, I haven't been able to stop! Makes me feel safe knowing that someone is always watching!
Tear down the cameras.
General Keinonen, commander of the Finnish Defence Forces in the1960's had a "slightly" different opinion: "Every household should have a "black" unregistered gun." A secret against an unlegal government.
I have something to protect. That's why i lock my house.
Absolutely love your channel man! Awesome content! Amazing quality, straight to the point! Also an idea for a future video:
How the internet really works: A step by step model of everything that happens to your data as you browse
Also:
The best password managers, chrome extensions, privacy related software, would be awesome!
Thanks for the suggestion!
@@lucasnewman2477 Nice delivery in the video, Lucas. A very important one to make!
This!
Why do people wear clothes in summer in they've got nothing to hide?
It's not that I have something to hide, I have nothing I want you to see.
Exactly this.
For me its not even a big deal if somebody sees all my data. Big corporations having it and me not knowing what they do with their algorithms and everybody seeing it is what i don't want
The thing is, I do have something to hide, and the fact I hide it is the reason I don't get robocalls.
The quality of your videos are getting better and better , loving it !!
Hello.
What a great vid and subject to inform folks.
Extremely pertinent to the daily lives of free citizens everywhere.
It's soon to be tested.
Good luck
Every time I see a video like this or read an article like this I am left with a single question. So, what can we do about it? The only way to really protect your data completely would be to drop off the grid, move into a cabin in the woods, not use any electricity, and stay away from society entirely. Otherwise, there's only so much you can do. But, to the point of the video, doing so would not protect you. The people you associate with will no longer be in contact with you which means the government knows exactly where you are through your old associations. So, there's nothing we can do. Sure we can vote, protest, and make videos like this but it's not ever going to change. It's only going to keep getting worse.
The right questions to ask:
Do we REALLY need to give up one FOR the other? Do they need to cancel each other out (one couldn't exist with the other)? Or do they want us to think we SHOULD give up the one for the other? Can't we be safe without sacrificing privacy?
That is the better question to ask! I feel that this kind of topic also permeates into philosophy, political science, and other humanities/social sciences. To me this seems to be one of our most pressing isssues along with climate change, and social issues abt discrimintation.
This.
@HelloAngelo
What's worse is they are making these "basic" commodities as CONDITIONAL. You can't avail a certain service without having to give up personal information, aside from the monetary value you paid beforehand.
For example, you can't use a basic note-taking/word processor app without logging on to your google/FB account. What?! I mean, I just want somewhere to write and save OFFLINE, on my own local/external drive. NO, you have to save on their "cloud". Right.
Thanks, this channel is very important and the topics discussed ought to be appreciated more, much respect. 🙏
Bruh your channel is so unique and insane at contain quality.
Holy shit your website is professional, and you have an entire company behind you, I only know about this RUclips stuff, but this explains the production quality
So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause - Padme Amidala, 19 bby
I have tons and tons of stuff to hide
Great
America should keep its military bases in its own country.
Beautifully Told
WOW 10:57 "imagine you were gay" the Grindr notification sound really seals the deal.
Helloooo all!
How does this channel not have millions of subscribers?
I recall using an ATM in Cambodia, security guard outside insisting you remove hats and glasses so the camera can log your withdrawal. Taking of my titfer isn't a problem but my bins makes seeing the keypad somewhat tricky.
Love the license plate in the back😍
It's a secret XD
I think that the government should not be able to have access to anything more private then out of home and public things.
Good luck with that. I wouldn't even worry about government (mostly because I live in other first world country that USA) but more of big companies like google and Facebook.
@@viiltelijamurhaaja7225 I despise “meta” and tolerate google. My government “USA” is getting to powerful in the digital world and I feel as though it’s getting to close to china
@@DaCatmasterX yeah i too worry about USA. I heard that they are setting up tor relays? Google collects everything you do with them but USA tries to collect more
@@viiltelijamurhaaja7225 I try to hide from USA online as much as I can, good thing is nobody seems to be competent enough to take data when you hide
@@DaCatmasterX they can if they want but it won't be worth the effort
the big corporations are the real threat
This. Governments dont spy much compare to them and most data goverment gets is form companies
Nice to meet you luke, hope to see more videos from you
No, no I'm not
Originaly it was Bradley who started to record the video in his Russian flat, but he received a text after three minutes from an unknown number with the following:
You've got a nice RUclips channel, we would want anythung to happen to it. 😀
No
Never.
Will you make a video on a disappearing message thing which or the vanish mode.. Or the snaps
I have more than few Muslim friends that have been detained or put on no flight list because they happen to search up things they shouldn't out of curiosity. They didn't know they were already on watch list and these are friends are professional people that I got to know from the tech industry. It is a scary world out there, man.
Honestly start using ipods, flip phones, offline gps, regular watches, radios, wired head phones just old school..
I think I have to learn some amazing editing skill from him
nothing to hide is a simplistic, childish reaction to privacy ... what if the govmt just decides eating roast beef is not right, and anyone that eats roast beef will be spied upon.??? it can change like that at any time
On that Note, I think you forgot to mention the iOS 15's latest update from August 2021 regarding Hashmatch / Neural Match. It's freaking scary and it shook the most loyal of Apple fan boy's community
10:55 Why do I have do imagine?
No, I am not
You should also have covered Ring cameras
Religious or non-religious affiliation is something which doesn't seem dangerous but actually is. About a dozen countries in the world can imprison, torture, or murder you if you have no religion, or simply the "wrong" religion from their standpoint. So this may be a weak point for those who live in countries where freedom of religion is enshrined in law or accepted culturally. They are all vulnerable to foreign actors, or occasionally, a change in government.
Light distribution glasses would be cool where the disburse light Infront of your face so cameras can't see your face.
Only the most boring of people have nothing to hide
Person of Interest series
CCTV helps people to remember to wear a balaclava
Yes good point Liam
I've got plenty to hide and that's nobody's business.
"If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear"
No, no I am not.
Thier last few videos were based on privacy only. It will be good for you and your channel that each video should be different and unique. It's not about editing videos only!
Are our digital doubles like our doppelgangers?
The only person I trust is myself and my gun (which I don't have).
Though if I see any cameras, giving it some opaque tape will make it spy less. However if the camera rebels and continues to spy, I'll throw rocks at it cave man style.
Using Linux is better but can be hacked so basically only secure way is to destroy the camera or using PinePhone or librem 5 are the only options
I need the safety fursure lol no social media no anything just basic youtube
Would be nice to state the obvious instead of saying it is obvious, because for some it is not :) ...regards, and Thanks for a video :)
12:24 😂😂😂
Always a good day when you get a Sumsub notification
I mean if a crime were to happen to you, youd appreciate the cctv but since it hasnt happened to you, youre gonna complain about it being a privacy issue
Wer nichts zu verbergen hat, braucht nichts zu befürchten.
(Who has nothing to hide, needn't fear anything.)
Joseph Goebbels, 1933. We all know how that went...
I wonder why you have an Albanian license plate in the background?! Does it really say 48 hours
Next video: How to become a ghost online
Well we can't trust the govt and the same goes for them😂.
They can't trust all the citizens cuz there are many many bad people who are pretty sus 😳
How do you only have 10k views in 2 days w 130k subs? Me thinks big tech no like the topic lol
Fuck em'
it seems people are missing the line between
"let the government/police know something" and
"let the entire world know everyone else's secrets"
like yes I want privacy in a level that people wont observe my action publicly but am I willing to give access to police or army on my phone? yes if it helps them doing their job
like really letting police know where you were 3 days ago
is different from letting a man named Alfred from floor below you know who you had sex with, have recordings of that, AND share it on the internet
Letting police know where you were few days ago is different than google knowing more about you than your family does. And they dont even give that info to police because its useless to them
Think you have nothing to hide? Just remember, somebody else knows that you've just watched this video and may view you as a "problem" in the future plan.
Well thats too late. Using Linux DuckDuckGo and channels that are much worse than this.
Why burning down the capitalism system when i´m against surveillance everywhere? These two topics have nothing in common (in the core). I love capitalism and free market economy, because here the customer decides what he wants. But im against governmental influences that want to track me everywear. Yes, big corporations are a piece of it, but theyre just able to to what they do because the politicans help them doing it. Its the so calles Corporatism. The symbiosis of state and companies. And these anti-freedom connection want to make you believe that capitalism is bad, so they can enforce an socialist/communist agenda. F... them! Im a free human being and i decide for myself, i dont need no mentored/supervised thinking!

That's why vaccine mandates are so scary. If somebody scans my QR code everywhere I go how do I know if someone gathers that information?
Besides the fact that it's irrational to do in the first place. Unlimited control over such a thing speaks volumes as to the malicious intent and deception. Anyone can vote though (couldn't be anything backwards there).
ayo never been so early :D
bradley
where is bradley
what did you do with him
Really don't care. Privacy nuts are dangerous.
your not Bradly.....
It's kinda hypocrite and funny that we are watching this video on youtube, right?? LoL. Are you guys on Library/Sourcey??
that was granpa franklin last word before downloading malware-filled software to his grandson computer. because he download from place where the software original developer doesn't interfere. seriously, your mangled definition of freedom simply about non-interference of authority regardless of how bad it is. You'd rather get conned by anyone that isn't authority rather than heed the danger warning
Actually I am okay doing that
