    #71 Iyadani-ji
    ●About this temple
This temple is located on Mt.Iyadani-san, which has long been known as the ``Mountain of Buddha'' and has attracted folk worship since ancient times. It is said to be one of the most difficult of the 88 temples due to its steep stone steps.
Long ago, Gyoki could see eight countries in the Shikoku and Chugoku regions from this mountain, so he enshrined Amida Nyorai on the eastern peak and Shakyamuni Nyorai on the western peak, and named it Mt. Renge Hakkokuji Temple.
Later, when Kobo Daishi was 7 years old, he studied at Shishi-no-Iwaya in the Okunoin Temple and did penance on this mountain. In the second year of Daido (807), when he climbed the mountain again and practiced the secret method of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism, he discovered five books. It is said that a sword fell and he heard a message from Kongo Zao Gongen.
It is said that the name of the mountain was changed to Kengozan, and because there were many valleys in the area, the name of the temple was also changed to Yaya-dera.
At this time, Daishi carved a thousand-armed Kannon and enshrined it, and rebuilt the temple.
It was destroyed by military fire during the Sengoku period, but was rebuilt in 1600.
    ●Point to watch around
・Shishi-no-Iwaya - A rock cave that looks like a lion has opened its mouth, located at the back of Daishi-do Hall.
The name comes from the fact that the lion's howl is thought to be the same as the Buddha's sermon.
Inside, the Daishi-do Hall, a statue of Amitabha Tathagata (father), and a statue of Maitreya Bodhisattva (mother) are enshrined.
Surrounding the Manchara Dan and Goma Dan on three sides, the seated statues of Amida Nyorai, Dainichi Nyorai, and Jizo Bodhisattva are symmetrically carved into the rock wall.
・Amida Sanzon Mokabebutsu - Located at the top of the stone steps leading from the precincts of Daishi-do Hall to the main hall, there is a statue of the Amida Sanzon with a height of approximately 1 meter carved.
It is said that if you pray to the Mida Sanzon, you will be promised paradise in the future.
・Haiku Chaya - A teahouse in front of the Sanmon gate with a history of over 100 years
The name comes from the strips of haiku poems that were left hanging in the store by pilgrims who stopped by.
・Fureai Park Minor - Centered around the ``Natural Iyadani Onsen Daishi-no-Yu'', there is a heated pool, restaurant, and accommodation facilities, and is used by a wide range of people from the general public to pilgrims.
