With all the weird sci-fi & fantasy shit that happened on this show in S3-S6, the final season, where they are going through high school again, but in 1957, is the most grounded season since S1! So having all that BEFORE S7 be Betty's hallucination would actually have been an interesting twist on the "it was all a dream" trope. But Betty would need to get treatment & I wouldn't trust the show to handle that well. But, as some of the comments Brett read pointed out, with all the supernatural & paranormal stuff,- aliens, cults, serial killers (plural), witchcraft, weird-ass villains, people coming back from the dead, superpowers, giving Cheryl everyone's superpowers so she can stop a comet from hitting Earth, multiple universes & characters that become angels & travel through all of them in no time, etc., the quad relationship at the end isn't weird at all.

Veronica ended up running a Hollywood Studio & winning 2 Oscars, making several of the most significant movies of that generation. I knew Lili Reinhart when we were kids. Her dads family is from the small town where I live. Her dad’s family attends or used to attend my church. I grew up down the street from her grandparents. I tried watching this show when it came out because I wanted to watch her. I watched it together with my parents. We all collectively hated it and turned it off after episode one. I can’t believe it got even crazier.
The day they decided to make Betty’s character into a stripper, while somehow being some expert in knowing how to identify serial killers, was the day I said, “F**k off, show.” and didn’t waste anymore time on watching.

It was supposed to end after season 5 with Dean and Lisa together. That’s was all the show runners had planned but the show was so successful that they kept it going with new show runners. I think it still had good moments after season 5 but it did go downhill.

When I was in high school, barely anyone was having sex as much as the Riverdale kids did. I’m honestly shocked none of the girls got pregnant in the show with how unprotected they were. Seriously, the kids acted like adults, rather than teenagers.
The comics changed dramatically when they got new management in the early 2000's. Archie got new friend who was a gay, war hero, and that was just the start.

I honestly didn't have a problem with this one. Why? Because in the show the Quad didn't last either. It didn't have them last, Archie moved on and had a wife and in love with someone and didn't look back. Jughead got to go on and have a career in comics and stories, Veronica got into movie career, and Betty became a journalist. I HONESTLY saw no problems with this it's high school. In high school people date each other all the time and we're just friends.

Honestly the more you learn about the showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the less you’re surprised by this. The sexual deviancy that possesses this man is so insanely dark and gross and it’s very evident when you’re watching the show. I mean literally most of Archie’s scenes are excuses for KJ Apa (who, like the rest of the cast, is actually a good actor when he’s given a decent script) to be shirtless on television. Roberto is the very reason that Riverdale (and every other show he’s created) went so off the rails and it’s really sad because the original concept and first season of Riverdale is actually compelling and enjoyable. The only CW show I've seen that actually could have some deep or philosophical takeaways was "Forever" about an immortal man watching the world change and his loved ones die as he lives on without them. Of course, since that show was actually good, CW canned it, but shows like Riverdale or the superhero shows seem to never end.

Barchie had to be endgame! Betty had a picture of Archie in a heart frame in her house as an old lady. On the seat, at the Babylonium, in one of the scenes it had the initials BC and AA in a heart, and near it, it said CA was here, indicating Carla Andrews, the girl she adopted. Also, she may not remember that she was with Archie, even if she never married him because she had dementia or something. Also, she was so excited to see Archie through that window again. Plus, whenever Cheryl told Archie at the end of 7x04 that one day a girl will want to go to California with him, and maybe she lives next door to him. The fact that Betty obviously doesn’t live in Riverdale when she is older, indicates she lived with Archie in California. Also, how come we never got to see Archie’s future dramatized. He was the only one who didn’t get a collage like the others. One last thing, Betty knew Archie’s future, while Jughead told her everyone else’s.
Betty SAYS in the finale that she never regretted not marrying! Archie had a happy marriage & family. You are really reaching to suggest that "CA" means Carla Andrews, when no such character existed. Carla was the name of BETTY'S ADOPTED daughter, not Archie & Betty's daughter. Also, Betty lived in New York City! I honestly haven't seen the show since season 4. The DND plot line was one of the better seasons. When I saw this, my jaw dropped. Jughead and Betty were meant to be the ship as well as Archie and Veronica, not some love quad! My mom doesn't even believe me when I said it. If only she knew how right I was.
In the comics Archie marries B & there's a huge fanbase that would disagree with your assertion that Bughead was meant to be. Also, Archie & B were at least engaged, maybe even married, in S6 when they all come back to Riverdale 7 years after graduation to teach at Riverdale High. The time jump also showed V married to some guy who did not go to Riverdale. Jughead was still unmarried. Jughead was asexual in the comics so putting him in a quad was ridiculous.

I am 35, and I feel like in the last 10 years the world has changed more than the last 50. I honestly cannot keep up with all those "woke" things and to be honest I get too tired to even try to understand what's going on. But for one thing I am certain, I really don't like where this world is going and I have a major Nostalgia for the 90s. Like I daydream about the life back in the 90s sometimes.
It's a shame because in my opinion the first 2 seasons were great but then, the storylines were getting weird. There are still fantastic episodes after season 2 like the Luke perry tribute episode. I stopped in s5, it just got super ridiculous. It had fantastic potential but they ruined it
The regime changed at Archie comics in the early the early 2000's . It started pushing THE MESSAGE early and hard. This show was close to the worst of the vomit that came from the new managers , and it still wasn't enough to keep it from being attacked. This makes me glad I haven't followed any Archie material for a long time. Now, it's time to go back to not thinking about it.

I worked on the show Riverdale for 6 seasons up the end. I can tell you from right on set that the actors would often joke about their characters and what they were saying and doing, having no idea what the hell was going on half the time. But, they were all fun most of the time, and it was a great team of people to work with, even if everyone in the town of RVD (we blamed the water) became non-hetero, as it were... the material was a moral travesty and utterly inane, lol, but Cole Sprouse said it best on the last night of filming, "people are still watching this show!"...... not to reveal a secret but Cole and KJ were never gonna be a thing, ever. as Jug and Archie.
I don't think that's a secret. I think they left it open to interpretation and the more accurate way to describe the arrangement is that each of the girls dates both guys and each other or that the girls swapped male partners sometimes while also dating each other. That's certainly how it seems based on the finale, including Betty's "Goodbye " speech in the extended finale online.

So superpowers, portals to other dimensions, multiple universes, time travel, MULTIPLE serial killers, incest, the Gargoyle King, psycho or outright evil parents, psycho Cheryl, an organ-harvesting cult, Cheryl becoming Discount Scarlet Witch saving the Earth from destruction by a comet, Archie fighting in an underground Fight Club, Betty doing a striptease, & Tabitha traveling through ALL possible universes is reasonable, but the Core 4 being in a polyamorous relationship is jumping the shark???!!! They've had so many seasons of conflict, cheating, & hurting each other. This arrangement made sense for the characters in the Season 7 reboot of the show. It was a way to start over with Veronica coming to town, & seeing the characters being more like their comic book counterparts than the dark, violent characters of S1-S6. There's no sign of Dark Betty or of B self-harming, no full on sex scenes, no violent Archie, etc. Betty is a sweet teenage girl learning about sex, dealing with both the awakening of a powerful libido & an attraction to V, both of whom are VIRGINS, not the well-worn women of S1-S6 who seemed to be already sexually experienced when we meet them at 15! Archie is a normal teen for 1957. He doesn't seem to be a horndog wanted by every woman who sees him. There are no cults, Gargoyle kings, deadly games, serial killers, people exhibiting mental illness (Cheryl, Betty) or psychopathic behavior (Penelope).
I watched the first two seasons when I was 17. Stopped watching when it became creepily violent. But given that _everyone_ was showing romantic interest in _everyone else_ from the 1st season, the ending doesn’t surprise me at all. It surprises me a little that they chose to come right out and say the quiet part out loud… But if you actually watched the show, it’s not a surprise ending. Everyone was literally kissing everyone at some point. another reason I stopped watching it. It was too weird.
I watched this show in its entirety and it is a wild ride. I thought not including Archie and jughead hooking up made sense because it was from the point of view of Betty and she would have had no involvement in the two guys hooking up, whereas she was involved in the other three hookup scenarios.
This. Everyone seems to criticize them for not showing Archie & Jughead making out, but they ALSO didn't show V & Jughead OR V & Archie making out. That's because Betty wasn't there. All you saw was V walking with Jughead up to his door or V opening the door to let Archie in. When it came to behind closed doors scenes, Betty only remembers her own experiences.
As someone who enjoys a well-written love triangle, part of the draw is the anticipation of "the final choice" - someone will have to sacrifice their potential future with their particular love interest. I have seen VERY few writers who can pull off a compelling love triangle without the restriction that the lead character/characters can only choose one person in the end. I can be a bit of a hopeless romantic at times.

People with dementia remember long distant memories. It's the more recent memories that they lose. Once she was "back" in Riverdale experiencing a day of school she missed as a senior, her memories started coming back, especially the big ones. She remembered that Fang was the first to die, just months after graduation, when his tour bus crashed. She remembered visiting Veronica's grave in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery & going to some of Veronica's film premieres. There's a new therapy for patients with dementia of playing their favorite music from decades earlier & it helps to bring back memories. So that's quite reasonable, esp. if one is doing a kind of A Christmas Carol visit by angel Jughead during the night to take Betty to her past. But maybe you think Dickens' A Christmas Carol," is crazy.

I'm not surprised they ended the show that way. The four being in a quad is actually not far off from the comics (which I read and loved growing up). Archie was dating both of them at the same time and they'd constantly fight over him. Veronica would also date Reggie to make Archie jealous, if I remember right. Jughead was actually always being chased by Ethel. Riverdale was my guilty pleasure and I actually really liked the show *because* of how ridiculous it is. While I am a little weirded out about the quad relationship, the one thing I appreciate about it is that they didn't force a romance between Archie and Jughead. They've always had a brotherly relationship and I'm glad the show stayed true to that instead of it being that suddenly they dated as well.
Riverdale was a show about relationships and pairings. And when it came time to disappoint some people and make actual choices and decisions about who would end up with who... riverdale came up with this. And I think it was a completely gutless decision by the writers and head of creative.

The only reason why I even knew about Riverdale is because of the Netflix adaptation of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Riverdale was an episode in looking for the Mad King's crown, and I instantly thought there was a search for Jughead's crown. Since he has been seen wearing his crown almost all the time in the comics. That cameo crossover of the shows was more than enough for me to know that Riverdale is not for me. I also don't like the more "gritty and darker version" of Sabrina the Teenage Witch either. All about "Girl power!" And girlboss energy, even when a coal mine collapsed in the series and killed Sabrina's boyfriend's brother was still all about how she suffers. Her boyfriend is even killed and she buries him in her family cemitary because the soil can revive the dead. And this is all to spare her own feelings.

With all the weird sci-fi & fantasy shit that happened on this show in S3-S6, the final season, where they are going through high school again, but in 1957, is the most grounded season since S1! So having all that BEFORE S7 be Betty's hallucination would actually have been an interesting twist on the "it was all a dream" trope. But Betty would need to get treatment & I wouldn't trust the show to handle that well. But, as some of the comments Brett read pointed out, with all the supernatural & paranormal stuff,- aliens, cults, serial killers (plural), witchcraft, weird-ass villains, people coming back from the dead, superpowers, giving Cheryl everyone's superpowers so she can stop a comet from hitting Earth, multiple universes & characters that become angels & travel through all of them in no time, etc., the quad relationship at the end isn't weird at all.
I watched season 1 as it came out cuz I genuinely liked the premise. Then I never watched season 2 and am so glad I didn't. I only watched Alex Myers review the episodes and now that it's over I'm kinda sad I looked forward to Alex's increasingly unhinged videos about Riverdale

Veronica ended up running a Hollywood Studio & winning 2 Oscars, making several of the most significant movies of that generation. I knew Lili Reinhart when we were kids. Her dads family is from the small town where I live. Her dad’s family attends or used to attend my church. I grew up down the street from her grandparents. I tried watching this show when it came out because I wanted to watch her. I watched it together with my parents. We all collectively hated it and turned it off after episode one. It didn't have them last, Archie moved on and had a wife and in love with someone and didn't look back. Jughead got to go on and have a career in comics and stories, Veronica got into movie career, and Betty became a journalist. I HONESTLY saw no problems with this it's high school. In high school people date each other all the time and we're just friends.

Honestly the more you learn about the showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the less you’re surprised by this. The sexual deviancy that possesses this man is so insanely dark and gross and it’s very evident when you’re watching the show. I mean literally most of Archie’s scenes are excuses for KJ Apa (who, like the rest of the cast, is actually a good actor when he’s given a decent script) to be shirtless on television. Roberto is the very reason that Riverdale (and every other show he’s created) went so off the rails and it’s really sad because the original concept and first season of Riverdale is actually compelling and enjoyable.

The only CW show I've seen that actually could have some deep or philosophical takeaways was "Forever" about an immortal man watching the world change and his loved ones die as he lives on without them. Of course, since that show was actually good, CW canned it, but shows like Riverdale or the superhero shows seem to never end.

Barchie had to be endgame! Betty had a picture of Archie in a heart frame in her house as an old lady. On the seat, at the Babylonium, in one of the scenes it had the initials BC and AA in a heart, and near it, it said CA was here, indicating Carla Andrews, the girl she adopted. Also, she may not remember that she was with Archie, even if she never married him because she had dementia or something. Also, she was so excited to see Archie through that window again. Plus, whenever Cheryl told Archie at the end of 7x04 that one day a girl will want to go to California with him, and maybe she lives next door to him. The fact that Betty obviously doesn’t live in Riverdale when she is older, indicates she lived with Archie in California. Also, how come we never got to see Archie’s future dramatized. He was the only one who didn’t get a collage like the others. One last thing, Betty knew Archie’s future, while Jughead told her everyone else’s.

In the comics Archie marries B & there's a huge fanbase that would disagree with your assertion that Bughead was meant to be. Also, Archie & B were at least engaged, maybe even married, in S6 when they all come back to Riverdale 7 years after graduation to teach at Riverdale High. The time jump also showed V married to some guy who did not go to Riverdale. Jughead was still unmarried. Jughead was asexual in the comics so putting him in a quad was ridiculous.

The regime changed at Archie comics in the early the early 2000's . It started pushing THE MESSAGE early and hard. This show was close to the worst of the vomit that came from the new managers , and it still wasn't enough to keep it from being attacked. Riverdale had such potential with season 1 but it really went off the rails. Still thought it was too much, but I liked the Hardy Boys feel to it.

I worked on the show Riverdale for 6 seasons up the end. I can tell you from right on set that the actors would often joke about their characters and what they were saying and doing, having no idea what the hell was going on half the time. But, they were all fun most of the time, and it was a great team of people to work with, even if everyone in the town of RVD (we blamed the water) became non-hetero, as it were... the material was a moral travesty and utterly inane, lol, but Cole Sprouse said it best on the last night of filming, "people are still watching this show!"...... not to reveal a secret but Cole and KJ were never gonna be a thing, ever. as Jug and Archie.
I don't think that's a secret. I think they left it open to interpretation and the more accurate way to describe the arrangement is that each of the girls dates both guys and each other or that the girls swapped male partners sometimes while also dating each other. That's certainly how it seems based on the finale, including Betty's "Goodbye " speech in the extended finale online.

This arrangement made sense for the characters in the Season 7 reboot of the show. It was a way to start over with Veronica coming to town, & seeing the characters being more like their comic book counterparts than the dark, violent characters of S1-S6. There's no sign of Dark Betty or of B self-harming, no full on sex scenes, no violent Archie, etc. Betty is a sweet teenage girl learning about sex, dealing with both the awakening of a powerful libido & an attraction to V, both of whom are VIRGINS, not the well-worn women of S1-S6 who seemed to be already sexually experienced when we meet them at 15! Archie is a normal teen for 1957. He doesn't seem to be a horndog wanted by every woman who sees him. There are no cults, Gargoyle kings, deadly games, serial killers, people exhibiting mental illness (Cheryl, Betty) or psychopathic behavior (Penelope).
I watched the first two seasons when I was 17. Stopped watching when it became creepily violent. But given that _everyone_ was showing romantic interest in _everyone else_ from the 1st season, the ending doesn’t surprise me at all.
It surprises me a little that they chose to come right out and say the quiet part out loud… But if you actually watched the show, it’s not a surprise ending. Everyone was literally kissing everyone at some point. another reason I stopped watching it. It was too weird.
I watched this show in its entirety and it is a wild ride. I thought not including Archie and jughead hooking up made sense because it was from the point of view of Betty and she would have had no involvement in the two guys hooking up, whereas she was involved in the other three hookup scenarios.
This. Everyone seems to criticize them for not showing Archie & Jughead making out, but they ALSO didn't show V & Jughead OR V & Archie making out. That's because Betty wasn't there. All you saw was V walking with Jughead up to his door or V opening the door to let Archie in. When it came to behind closed doors scenes, Betty only remembers her own experiences.
As someone who enjoys a well-written love triangle, part of the draw is the anticipation of "the final choice" - someone will have to sacrifice their potential future with their particular love interest. I have seen VERY few writers who can pull off a compelling love triangle without the restriction that the lead character/characters can only choose one person in the end.
I can be a bit of a hopeless romantic at times.

Showing Archie and Jughead together would be “too hot for tv”? In season 3 episode 15, we literally got a PG version of a lesbian porno with Cheryl and Toni not to mention all of the other hot Choni scenes but showing 2 boys would be too much? Makes no sense to me 🤔🤷🏾♀️

People with dementia remember long distant memories. It's the more recent memories that they lose. Once she was "back" in Riverdale experiencing a day of school she missed as a senior, her memories started coming back, especially the big ones. She remembered that Fang was the first to die, just months after graduation, when his tour bus crashed. She remembered visiting Veronica's grave in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery & going to some of Veronica's film premieres. There's a new therapy for patients with dementia of playing their favorite music from decades earlier & it helps to bring back memories. So that's quite reasonable, esp. if one is doing a kind of A Christmas Carol visit by angel Jughead during the night to take Betty to her past. But maybe you think Dickens' A Christmas Carol," is crazy.

I have never even heard of “Riverdale”. Never knew it existed and honestly, I think I’m better off for it.
I'm not surprised they ended the show that way. The four being in a quad is actually not far off from the comics (which I read and loved growing up). Archie was dating both of them at the same time and they'd constantly fight over him. Veronica would also date Reggie to make Archie jealous, if I remember right. Jughead was actually always being chased by Ethel. Riverdale was my guilty pleasure and I actually really liked the show *because* of how ridiculous it is. While I am a little weirded out about the quad relationship, the one thing I appreciate about it is that they didn't force a romance between Archie and Jughead. They've always had a brotherly relationship and I'm glad the show stayed true to that instead of it being that suddenly they dated as well.

Riverdale was a show about relationships and pairings. And when it came time to disappoint some people and make actual choices and decisions about who would end up with who... riverdale came up with this. And I think it was a completely gutless decision by the writers and head of creative.
I hated the poly thing and it all felt too forced but I’m just a hater of those types of relationships 😂 I also wasn’t surprised that riverdale went that way.
Watched the first like 3 episodes in 7th or 8th grade and then I was like “no this is way too trashy” and I haven’t watched it since (I’m 18 now) Thank G-d.

Never thought I'd see my worlds cross over like this. I've been a fan of Riverdale from the start (with all its craziness) and I obviously love your videos as well. Now that we're talking on "this side of the isle" we have to admit that satanic rituals and organ harvesting is FAR from a fantasy In this world and the show actually touched on a lot of crazy dark things that are unfortunately true.
I stole something from the Riverdale set! I've never seen an episode. But the rebel in me was going home with SOMETHING. I took a sheet of math homework from a locker. I'm not a greedy thief. Sometimes I gently touch things that have"No Touching" on them too! Im kind of a badass that way.
I grew up reading Archie comments (I've never seen the show, never care to see it) and to me this is just a disgrace to the original book series, it's weird and they ruined it
Honestly the show put very little effort into developing the basic friendship between Archie and Jughead. They were best friends more in title than anything else. Them hooking up would have been incredibly out of left field.

The only reason why I even knew about Riverdale is because of the Netflix adaptation of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Riverdale was an episode in looking for the Mad King's crown, and I instantly thought there was a search for Jughead's crown. Since he has been seen wearing his crown almost all the time in the comics. That cameo crossover of the shows was more than enough for me to know that Riverdale is not for me. I also don't like the more "gritty and darker version" of Sabrina the Teenage Witch either. All about "Girl power!" And girlboss energy, even when a coal mine collapsed in the series and killed Sabrina's boyfriend's brother was still all about how she suffers. Her boyfriend is even killed and she buries him in her family cemitary because the soil can revive the dead. And this is all to spare her own feelings.
