Agreed. Darlington and Martinsville are two of NASCARs most historic tracks - I simply cannot fathom NASCAR without them. If I had my way, I would return NASCAR to more classic/historic tracks like Rockingham, Bowman Gray, and the Nashville Fairgrounds. I would also eliminate the lone Texas race and give North Wilkesboro a points-paying event (in addition to the All-Star Race).

The year when it was announced SHR was going from Chevy to Ford (2016 if I remember right), I remember a rumor that Harvick wanted to stay with a Chevy team and HMS was going to boot Kasey Kahne out of the 5 at the end of that season to bring in Harvick. If I recall correctly, it got so much momentum that Harvick even went to Kahne to tell him no one from HMS had contacted him and said anything according to an article. Just so Kasey didn't think Kevin was stealing his seat out from under him.
Imagine if Dale Jr. went from driving the Budweiser car to driving the Silver Bullet #40. He could’ve saved himself from the self-destruction of DEI and he could’ve had a better peak in performance than he had. Also, with the streak of good luck they had at the end of the 2000s and with McMurray winning 2 crown jewels in 2010, we might’ve never seen his 4 year losing streak that he had with Hendrick.
But hendrick was a top team at the time and who knows if dale jr would have been any better at Ganassi. There are so many things that go in to being successful that it’s impossible to say oh if he went here this would have happened.
You know, fun fact: if Dale Earnhardt Jr. never left DEI, he probably would've been with Ganassi considering how DEI merged with Ganassi and Ganassi took it over completely in 2013.
RC wanted Rusty Wallace to come out of retirement and run the 07 but hired Bowyer before Rusty told RC that he wanted to. I also believe there was a rumor that Dale Earnhardt wanted Jeff Gordon to race for DEI.
JG to DEI? Tbh that's not too out there. Jeff and Sr were actually pretty good friends off the track to my understanding. But at the same time, Mr. H had given Jeff A LOT because of his talent, and Jeff probably didn't want to burn that bridge. Looking at it now, It was a good thing he stuck with Hendrick.
Here are two separate ones I heard involving Rick Mast. When he was on the Dale Jr Download he mentioned that he had an opportunity to go to the 28 car one time and turned it down to stay in the Skoal car. Then when Harvick was on he said that when Childress called him in to the office after Dale Sr’s death and asked him to take over the car he said “if you don’t want to or don’t feel like you’re ready we’ve got Rick Mast lined up”
I think I remember Kevin Harvick saying on Dale Jr’s podcast that he was negotiating with Cal Wells to drive for the team in cup before Sr’s death in the 500.
I was friends with people from the Cal Wells team at the time from their days in CART that moved over to the NASCAR team. Harvick was close to signing a two year deal, but Sr. dying meant that Childress wanted Harvick to drive the car to fulfill the development deal he already had in place for him. Had Sr. survived the wreck, Harvick would have been driving for Cal Wells instead of staying under the RCR development deal and Cal Wells would have stayed in NASCAR.
I’m a die hard dodge guy so Earnhardt joining dodge would’ve been awesome but honestly Jr’s entire life is chevy even his prize truck is a cat eye chevy as well as a nomad so thankful he stayed with Chevy. Craziest rumor was last year people were talking about Russian F1 driver Daniil Kyvat joining SHR when photos of him at Martinsville were published
One that eventually happen was Jeff Burton to RCR, as Dale Sr. had pegged Burton as his future replacement. Also a crazy one was Kenny Wallace wanting to have Penthouse as a sponsor at Eel River Racing in 2001. Kenseth was rumored to Wood Brothers back in 99 as a second car.
This wasn’t a rumor because Ward talked about it on the Dale Jr podcast. But could you imagine Ward Burton driving the #99 for Roush? He wanted to sign Ward but he suggested his brother Jeff because he liked where he was at.
I remember hearing talks and rumors about James Hinchcliffe going to NASCAR, Marco Andretti going to NASCAR, Kyle Busch committing suicide by shooting himself back in 2019, Kyle Busch cheating on his wife (2019 I think), Denny Hamlin with women stuff back in 2012, Homestead shutting down in 2020. That’s all I can think of. Crazy stuff
Before signing with Mike Curb, Richard Petty & STP had other options for 1984, including RahMoc Enterprises and 5 Star Racing, the latter of which would soon be known as Hendrick Motorsports. Ken Schrader was about to sign with Bud Moore for 1988 until Jimmy Johnson at Hendrick reached out to him. Greg Sacks was supposed to drive a full-time Hendrick car in 1991 (#18, probably with Slim Fast), but the deal fell through. If Rick was already running 3 cars in 1992, would he have the interest, and the personnel, to add the #24 for Jeff Gordon? Jimmy Spencer apparently signed with Junie Donlavey for 1993, but then he got the call from Bobby Allison. Jimmy signed with Bobby, and Junie then signed Bobby Hillin Jr. According to Kevin Harvick, Rick Mast was set to run the Goodwrench car for the 2001 Dura Lube 400 if Kevin declined the ride. Ricky Rudd was heavily rumored to the new #42 Chip Ganassi Racing Dodge for 2003 (probably as a package deal with Havoline, the longtime sponsor for his Robert Yates Racing #28). After winning the Texas IROC race, Champ Car star Sebastien Bourdais was suddenly rumored to replace the retiring Mark Martin for 2006. I don't know if this story ever had much substance behind it, but it was out there.
The Petty rumors were almost done deals. STP put a stop to the HMS deal. Didn't trust Rick to stick around. As far as Raymoc no idea what happened, but the rumor was they already had cars painted Petty Blue.
As a Kasey Kahne fan I remember the constant rumors throughout 2016 and 2017 that either he or Matt Kenseth would be the driver for GMS when they moved up into Cup the next year (be it 2017 or 2018)
Imagine if NASCAR went ahead with the idea of axing Martinsville and Darlington. Not only would the decline happen much sooner, but so many classic moments we know now, would've never happened! Like in Martinsville: Johnson vs Gordon, Elliot vs Hamlin, Bowman vs Hamlin, Gordon's clutch final win of his career, Kenseth vs Logano, and not to mention a unique and classic trophy that is the grandfather clock. Or in Darlington: Regan Smith's first win, Johnson giving HMS their 600th win, Kyle Busch vs... well a majority of RCR (but most notably, Busch vs Harvick), Throwback weekend, a perfect track to return to after Covid, and of course the loss of a crown jewel The Southern 500.
I remember the Dale Jr. and Visa being linked up for a while with DEI and JGR for 2008. Around that same time, I also remember that Mark Martin was going to buy Robert Yates Racing and drive one of those two cars for 2007.
Viagra would sponsor the spring Talladega weekend. The Busch race would be called the “Viagra Mini-pack 250” and Cup race would be the “Viagra 500”. Imagine what those trophies would look like!!
I remember around 2010 when the rumor was Jeff Gordon was going to be sponsored by Walmart ( and apparently an announcement for that was going to be imminent). Qs we all know he got AARP instead.
What if Dale Jr went to Hendrick in '04 instead of Brian Vickers?! Dale Jr was so good in '04 just in DEI equipment...imagine him in a Hendrick car with GMAC and Mountain Dew sponsorship!
I remember hearing that they were planning to install lights at Talladega. They even announced it over the PA system at the track! Then we never heard a thing about it ever again.
It's mentioned on the 2003 season review by Ken Squier that Darlington was indeed on the chopping block but it wasn't kept on solely due to the finish in the winston Cup race. That whole weekend had great racing in the then Busch and Winston Cup races. Everyone remembers Ricky and Kurt, but go back, watch the Busch race from the weekend too.r
Less of a rumor, but when Kasey Kahne became a big free agent in 2010, Joe Gibbs Racing made a bid to get him into a 4th car. But couldn’t secure sponsorship fast enough and lost out to Hendrick
A few I remember. 1991 Maxwell House to sponsor Alan Kulwicki. Also 1991 Alan Kulwicki to Junior Johnson. I think the same rumor was around in 1990. 2006 Bobby Labonte to RCR. 2006 Jamie Murray to replace Wallace at Penske. 2001 Tony Stewart to the 19 for Evernham 1993 Ted Musgrave to replace Richard Petty in the 43/44.
Maxwell House was looking to sponsor Kulwicki but Johnson stole the sponsorship from under Alan, and some say it was revenge for him not signing with Johnson.
A couple of Matt Kenseth rumors come to mind. Back in 2001 rumor had Kenseth going to RCR in the 31 car in 2002. And as someone else already said, Kenseth replacing Dale Jr. at Hendrick in 2018. I'm glad the first one didn't happen, but still think about what he could've done in the 88.
Four that come to my mind are: Jeff Gordon leaving NASCAR to race in F1, before signing a lifetime contract with HMS. Bruton Smith starting a rival stock car series after buying and building several tracks in the early 2000's. Certain teams were supposedly getting away with using traction control at one time. Alan Kulwicki and Junior Johnson's imminent merger during the 1991 season. The France family entertaining offers to sell NASCAR to then have the cash to buy an NFL franchise.
What I remember: Dover getting lights and dropping to one race (2nd became true years later) Jeff Gordon was going to retire and go f1 racing There was going to be two "leagues" in the Cup Series with a 5 or 6 race championship. East vs West (like Arca did, I believe). Imagine some of the more lesser known drivers who couldn't get a ride being able to in this possibility? The big teams (and most teams at the time had the funds to run 3+ cars) would split their teams within each league.
Speaking of Dodge remember when Andretti Autosport was in talks with Dodge about fielding a 2 car team in Nascar? I think Kurt Busch was going to be one of the drivers, but Dodge decided to bounce and left.
Theyres a clip somewhere of Larry Mac talking about Earnhardt to Yates, supposedly if I recall it right Dale wanted to drive the 28…not the 88 for whatever reason I don’t believe that was an option, he also wanted over a million a year salary I believe.
Doug Yates confirmed that Robert Yates did in fact want Dale Sr to drive for him and he would have been in the 88 but instead they ended up with Dale Jarrett. When Dale Jr left DEI for HMS they asked Robert Yates for the 28 but Robert Yates did not want to give that number up so he offered the 88 instead.
It was also mentioned that Junior would have Visa as a sponsor on the #25 for HMS as well. It seems like they were pretty certain the Visa would the sponsor and they weren't even close.
Here's one that will surprise you and everyone else that's been watching nascar since the 90's and that's Tony Stewart going to Hendrick motorsports in 1999 to drive the 25 car instead of Joe Gibbs and driving the 20 car. Theirs an interview somewhere with Tony stating that while he was in the Bush series in 98 that Rick Hendrick reached out to him about driving the 25 car the following season and signing him and Zippy being his crew chief to a long term contract cause they were planning on releasing Wally Dallenbach after underperforming and Ricky Craven not being medically cleared to race for a while. Now imagine that Rick Hendrick would of had Jeff,Terry Labonte and Smoke and then Jimmie Johnson coming to cup in 2002 with Tony still winning the championship cause Jeff still would of won it in 2001. If Tony, Jimmie and Jeff would of been teammates back in the late 90's up until 2009 before he eventually started Stewart-Hass racing, all 3 of them would of been multiple time cup champions and the rumors about Dale Jr signing with Rick Hendrick in 2008, Kyle Bush, Casey Mears,Brian Vickers and Kasey Khane being apart of the organization would of never existed. In fact that would of probably prompted Dale Jr to sign with Tony at SHR in 2009 cause he would of been able to sign a 2 year deal at DEI back in 2007 to finish up over there cause like I said the stuff in 2008 would of never existed at all had Tony signed with Rick Hendrick in 1999 and stayed there until 2009. Also think about this as well. The driver lineup at SHR would of been top notch with Tony, Dale Jr and Ryan Newman (since he was Tony's teammate until 2014) and maybe could of gotten a Casey Mears, Brian Vickers or Kasey Khane later on before you had guys like Kurt Busch,Aric Almirola,Clint Bowyer, Kevin Harvick and Danica Patrick join SHR.
Here's Some Other Rumor's I Heard: In Mid-1997 , A Lot Of Rumors Said That Sterling Marlin Was Gonna Drive The 28 Texaco/Havoline Car For The 1998 Season However , Instead Kenny Irwin Got The Ride , Meanwhile Sterling Went To Felix Sabates For The 98 Season Also In Mid-1997 Rumors Also Said That Washington-Ervine Racing (The Busch Series Team That Ran The Dr Pepper Cars) Was Gonna Have A Cup Team , For This , Derrick Cope Was Rumored As The Driver , And Actually Signed A Deal For Driving It , However , The Team Fell Through , And Derrick Cope Ending Up In The 30 Car For 1998
I remember seeing a post on Facebook going around saying Denny was retiring at the end of this season and he would announce it at Richmond, the same weekend he won the race there. Of course it was posted on April Fools day but still, I thought it may happen
Thanks for giving North Wilkesboro a shout out. I live just few minutes from the track and they have started some work on it. Looks like some type of late model racing but I hear they are going try to get truck races as well in the future
I remember hearing about a track in the NYC metro area that was going to be built. I remember rumors of Dale Jarrett getting with Michael Waltrip's wife. Jeff Gordon was also going to be part of a group that was going to turn the old Cooper Stadium grounds in Columbus, OH into a racing facility (after the Columbus Clippers moved to the new Huntington Park). Nope, the remnants of Cooper Stadium are still there.
I live in New York and that wasn’t just a rumor, they had actually bought the land but there was an insane amount of backlash from the Staten Island community so it never ended up happening.
A recent one that I remember was Matt Kenseth driving for Hendrick, succeeding Dale Jr in the 88 after he retired. Obviously, that didn't happen, as Alex Bowman took the 88
I remember when Carl Edwards suddenly retired, that the rumor was that, Daniel Saurez’s father bought Carl out of NASCAR… I highly doubt it… but you never know… stranger things have happened…
That was actually Arris, the sponsor. At least that was a theory that was floated at the time. And I think it's certainly possible but I don't know for sure since Carl himself has never explained the reason and Arris buying him out could be why.
I've said this rumor before. The fact that NASCAR was thinking about Doubling down on the 550 hp package for the Next-gen car. Thankfully it didn't happen
Thank goodness for the Charlotte tests too. I’ve heard the teams were in absolute panic to get the car to even operate well because it was so undriveable with the 550.
The Trace Adkins Chrome 300 race at Nashville sparkled rumors that the following season, the Pepsi 400 at Daytona would be called the “Kenny Chesney When The Sun Goes Down 400” with Chesney performing the national anthem.
Here’s one I heard back in the day: Rick Hendrick offered Darrell Waltrip the 25 (could have been 17 I guess) Budweiser car in 1999, their final year with the sponsor before going to DEI with Dale Jr. I heard DW turned it down because he really wanted to drive two more years and be a part of NASCAR’s 50th anniversary season in 2000.
I don’t know if this is a rumor or true but did they have to sneak Dale Earnhardt Sr. out of Bristol after he wrecked Terry Labonte in 99 because of fan backlash?
Dale Earnhardt did have history with Ford, his two year spell driving the #15 Wrangler Jeans Ford Thunderbird in 1982 and 1983... And that went well (1982 was his worst statistical season: 1 win, 7 top 5's, 12 top 10's, and average finish of 18.8 and 18 DNF's)
@@danielfoster3642 I don't know about that, his second worst season was in the middle of his run of winning 4 championships in 5 seasons. In 1992, he scored 1 win, 6 top 5's, 15 top 10's, an average finish 14.9 and matched his championship finish from 1982 of 12th in the standings
In a way, Hendrick was part of this rumor. But that actually was an alternative to another rumor that happened at the same time involving Tony Stewart. Harry Ranier, well known for that 28 car that ran in the 70s and 80s and for starting up Davey Allison's career before he sold the team to Robert Yates in 1989, had tried several times to get back in the Winston Cup Series in the 1990s, but failed each time. This one, however, came close to actually happening. Ranier and Stewart signed a three year contract in 1996 to drive the 20 Ford. However, Ranier needed to find sponsorship, and if he didn't find any, this is where Rick Hendrick comes into the picture. Hendrick would have given Tony Stewart some Truck races, some Busch races, and potentially a Cup ride. Unfortunately, Tony Stewart later decided he wasn't ready for the Cup Series. However, Stewart did run a couple of Busch races and a Truck race at IRP for Harry Ranier before the two split up. At the same time, Stewart also drove full time for Team Menard in the Indycar Series. You know how that turned out, winning the championship in 1997. That caught the attention of Joe Gibbs, and Gibbs signed Stewart to a new contract to drive for Joe Gibbs Racing. Tony Stewart drove for Terry and Bobby Labonte's team in the Busch Series for 1998, coming up close to winning several times, including at Rockingham where he and Matt Kenseth battled for the lead for several laps, but Kenseth got the win. Stewart moved up to the Winston Cup Series in the 20 Home Depot car for 1999, and the rest is history.
Instead of telling an old rumor I'd give a bold prediction (and maybe a new rumor): Trackhouse opening a third full time entry with Daniel Ricciardo to drive it in 2023
Kyle Larson to Stewart-Haas. And as the buzz for it was spiraling forward, my understanding is that both the likes of Tony and Ford had almost settled the deal and the contract negotiations didn't come through fully among other things. It probably worked out for everyone involved considering the hindsight of everything. Kyle seems like more of an overall GM racer (And don't get me wrong. I like all makes to come from every car manufacturer. As long as the car itself can reliable, but I'm just saying the other end of it too. I'm very careful about how I choose to project my thoughts online to make sure nothing gets lost in retranslation even and why I tend to get too lengthy with my conversations on RUclips. It's because I care about the clarity of everything not getting misconstrued. Others can vouch for that as well, lol) anyway especially with Rick Hendrick comparing him to raw drivers such as Tim Richmond as it's been often said while still doing his own thing of course. Kyle's one of my more favorite active drivers with such an amazing bundle of consistent talent as he's shown. Also, on the Dale Earnhardt to the second Yates car rumor in late '95, I've heard Larry Mac say on Rick Houston's podcast series focusing on the history of NASCAR that Dale approached them out of some incidental alacrity to see if they could leverage anything for the black twenty-eight and of course this was a couple of months before Ernie Irvan came back to rejoin the sport after his injuries and was under contract so they couldn't lend him the twenty-eight car as Dale stipulated. Only the brand-new team could technically be offered since Ernie was still loyal (Let's be fair though, it was Davey who put the flagship car on the map which isn't to take away from the impressive array of athletes that drove for Robert over-the-years, but let's also be honest. The now iconic paint liveries become synonymously ubiquitous with certain brands. I say that with a little bias seeing how Davey Allison's my favorite driver of all time, but it'd be like not associating Dale with the three car, Mark with the six, Jeff Gordon in the twenty-four or Richard Petty in the forty-three, you know?) to his ride. Keep in mind and this was just prior to Dale Jarrett not starting his own team with collusion from Hooters as the main sponsorship. He had a letter of intent from them and before he signed the contract, Larry put in the go-to references to Robert and they signed him. 'Course the rest is history since with Larry essentially serving as the competition director hired Todd Parrott during the offseason preparing for '96 and everyone that helped create their six year run being consistently in the top five of the point standings. I could talk about it for the rest of my life it's so interesting to me. Thanks for the upload, Jaret.
@@johnhaas2523 Yeah, just very bad circumstances and timing. I wonder if that was part of Rick's thinking in bringing the five car back to redeem both his son (It was so awful what happened with Ricky and everyone aboard the plane when it crashed in '04. They're not forgotten and all fondly remembered) and Kyle's legacy? It all definitely fit into place with the very flagship car that saved Hendrick because had Geoff Bodine not won their first race as an organization at Martinsville in '84, I believe it was, he was barely making ends meet with balancing the team's budget and the expenses were ragging him especially with the GM dealership and such. He talked about quitting and then that literally was a shot in the arm for that salvaged the team. One of those watershed moments quite literally in sports as it's been often said. I'm glad that nearly everyone's forgiven Kyle for that mishap. It was a lapse in judgement and he's more than proved himself. Kyle's not that way and with his upbringing in California is what it is, but you know the greater horizon of what I'm saying not getting too political. I know that no one here's said it, but sadly putting lots of people outside the racing business (Any many insiders too) were so understandably quick to berate him for it and everything that goes with public relations. No hard feelings either way. It was meant to happen that he and Hendrick Motorsports joined forces like what Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Richard Childress for instance did, Darrell Waltrip with Junior Johnson when Cale Yarborough went part time, Kevin Harvick taking over for Dale Earnhardt, Sr., Martin Truex, Jr. with both Furniture Row and eventually Joe Gibbs by virtue of the spin gate incident all for example. The means could've been different of course, but it all did seem to be like a trick of fate when the whole context is reevaluated. It was the worst thing for Kyle, but it morphed into the best thing as well. Aside from their driving styles, I make the Tim Richmond comparison because statistically the same thing happened when both Tim and Harry Hyde were paired together for '86, Tim went from winning one off race here and there maybe a couple in a few seasons to literally being an established frontrunner putting up multi-race winning seasons consecutively as with what both Kyle and Cliff Daniels winning their first of hopefully more to come championship along with technically eleven races altogether including the all star exhibition victory too. The most in a season since the Jimmie Johnson era.
Most of the rumors involving the Earnhardt's does not shock me the one that does is Ryan Newman "possibly" driving the 6 car in 2006, well 14 years later the crash he's known for the most now is him in that 6 car, go figure.
I didn't know Newman was ever rumored to the Roush 6 car to replace Mark Martin but I remember seeing a letter to Racing Milestones magazine with a Newman fan wanting him to be Mark Martin's replacement.
3:10 this one is kind of odd, though I wonder if maybe Yates would do a third car. In 1995, Dale Jarrett was driving the 28 car after Irvan's 1994 wreck. Something with the timing seems odd. Unless during all this they didn't know Irvan would be able to return in 1996.
@@doomusrlc i feel like this was recently talked about by jr possibly on download. I know it was very recently I watched a whole video about it. Perhaps more about that Irvan timeline there. Actually may have been an interview from mcreynolds if not download than scene vault or whatever it's called

I remember just a few years ago of the rumor that Richard Petty Motorsports was gonna shut down mid season, Another good one in recent memory was bubba to Ganassi, Dale Jr to the Gibbs 18 car in 08.
I remember several rumors of Nissan and Volkswagen coming to NASCAR as a fourth manufacturer also of Dodge returning The most recent Dodge rumors were of Stewart Haas becoming a dodge team due to Tony Stewart's affiliation with Dodge in the NHRA
I remember that because I was actually hoping it would happen and from I heard, it almost happened but fell through due to sponsorship which I don't but because Suarez already that from Arris at the time (which is now under Commscope). Ultimately he ended up in the Gaunt Brothers 96 and now at Trackhouse where he finally won his first Cup race just a couple weeks ago
The most common one that I have been actually harassed with constantly was rumors of Jeff Gordon being gay. They started in the 1990's with Dale Earnhardt making mention of it, and it got blown out of proportion since. It got to points where people were literally making songs/parodies of Jeff being gay, and even in 2014, a hoax spread across the Internet that he was in a relationship with that one openly gay racecar driver in the local divisions of NASCAR. One kid at my school seriously believed that Jeff being gay was why Brooke Sealy divorced him, and that she caught him in bed with another guy. Hell, there's probably people on here who still say Jeff Gordon is gay. (Idiots.) And yes, I get that when drivers are hated, people call them gay. Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr, and Joey Logano have all been called gay by their haters.
2:26 What??? Visa and Mastercard are direct competitors. This is like saying _"Dale Jr is set to drive the #15 Lowes Home Depot Chevy next year."_ I honestly don't think this rumor ever actually existed; at least certainly not in the way you've described it in this video. Also, I love you man, but I don't think you know what "inevitably" means.
That would be terrible if we didn't have Martinsville and Darlinton it would be crazy if Dale Earnhardt drove for Robert Yates instead of Richard Childress
What are the craziest NASCAR rumors that you have ever heard?
Probably Kyle Busch to MB2...
Either that, or Elliott Sadler to stay at Yates in 2007.
Probably Chicago street course
Keselowski going to the 48
Hornish to DEI almost being a thing. Hell, even Zane Smith being THIS close of being a Cup rookie for Ganassi this year.
Dodge coming back
It’s hard to imagine not having Darlington and Martinsville

I guess you didn't hear about Dale Jr buying his brand new truck a couple years ago.
Kenseth to the Wood Brothers? Was this when the Wood Brothers started to decline?
Penthouse sponsoring Eel River would be like a stripper owning a NASCAR team
Imagine Earnhardt winning his 8th championship in the 88 car and then both him and his son retiring with that number
7:37 I mean for a dead man, Bobby Labonte really did a good job
This wasn’t a rumor because Ward talked about it on the Dale Jr podcast. But could you imagine Ward Burton driving the #99 for Roush? He wanted to sign Ward but he suggested his brother Jeff because he liked where he was at.
Kind of a shame for Ward, either way he'd have gone he wouldn't have done that well. Ward was personally my favorite of the two brothers.
@@morgfarm1 i don’t know Roush did have some good cars in the 90’s but the best Roush driver will always be Mark Martin
If Quality Care is Ford's equivalent of Goodwrench then Dale could have drove the exact same car but a Ford. That's bizarre to think about.
Dale would not have gone back to Ford.
Rumor I heard was that Smokey Yunick ran one of the most reputable and ethical NASCAR racing operations to be found.
Crazy stuff
Jeff Gordon being gay
Damn…

I got on for ya, Sam Hornish Jr was rumored to replace Rusty Wallace
The Petty rumors were almost done deals. STP put a stop to the HMS deal. Didn't trust Rick to stick around. As far as Raymoc no idea what happened, but the rumor was they already had cars painted Petty Blue.

As a Kasey Kahne fan I remember the constant rumors throughout 2016 and 2017 that either he or Matt Kenseth would be the driver for GMS when they moved up into Cup the next year (be it 2017 or 2018)
There was also a rumor of him being offered to drive the 41 at SHR for 2019, which did turn out to be true but Kahne declined and would later retire
Honestly you could make a whole video on all the rides that Dale Jr could have driven beyond 2007.
I remember the Dale Jr. and Visa being linked up for a while with DEI and JGR for 2008. Around that same time, I also remember that Mark Martin was going to buy Robert Yates Racing and drive one of those two cars for 2007.
“Would race til the end of his life”
That hit me hard, right in the feelers
Viagra would sponsor the spring Talladega weekend. The Busch race would be called the “Viagra Mini-pack 250” and Cup race would be the “Viagra 500”. Imagine what those trophies would look like!!
Was this when Mark Martin drove the Viagara car?
I remember Kurt Busch was going to go to the 00 car when he went to Stewart haas instead of the 41
I remember around 2010 when the rumor was Jeff Gordon was going to be sponsored by Walmart ( and apparently an announcement for that was going to be imminent). Qs we all know he got AARP instead.
What if Dale Jr went to Hendrick in '04 instead of Brian Vickers?! Dale Jr was so good in '04 just in DEI equipment...imagine him in a Hendrick car with GMAC and Mountain Dew sponsorship!
In addition to the RCR to Dodge rumor, there was also a rumor of Andretti bringing Dodge back with a 2 car team of Kurt Busch and Newman driving
I remember hearing that they were planning to install lights at Talladega. They even announced it over the PA system at the track! Then we never heard a thing about it ever again.
Would be cool to see actually happen
The Dale Earnhardt Indy 500 rumor was an interesting one as well
There was a rumor in the late 2010’s early 2020’s that Denny Hamlin was a future champion.
One of my favorite rumors was one that my cousin told me that Kurt Busch had reconstructive surgery to reduce the size of his ears.
“Aaannnd it’s McMurray NO ITS NOT ITS BODINE!!!”
2001 Tony Stewart to the 19 for Evernham
1993 Ted Musgrave to replace Richard Petty in the 43/44.
The Junior Johnson one was actually true, Junior asked Kulwicki to drive the 11 and Kulwicki declined so he could run things his way
Maxwell House was looking to sponsor Kulwicki but Johnson stole the sponsorship from under Alan, and some say it was revenge for him not signing with Johnson.
@@johndornoff I believe Junior wanted to get back at Alan so bad that when Bill Elliott lost the title to Alan in 92 the Crew Chief was fired
The time Dale Earnhardt Sr was rumored to replace Richard Petty in the 43 STP Pontiac in 1993.
Ward Burton was offered a deal to drive the #25 for Hendricks in 1997, he turned it down.
I remember the Bruton Smith rumor.... It seemed to be gaining strength with all the tracks he acquired!!!
What I remember:
Dover getting lights and dropping to one race (2nd became true years later)
Jeff Gordon was going to retire and go f1 racing
There was going to be two "leagues" in the Cup Series with a 5 or 6 race championship. East vs West (like Arca did, I believe). Imagine some of the more lesser known drivers who couldn't get a ride being able to in this possibility? The big teams (and most teams at the time had the funds to run 3+ cars) would split their teams within each league.
Jaret just uploaded a video yesterday going in depth about the potential rumor of NASCAR splitting into two divisions.
Jeff Gordon to Evernham was all but a done deal. That’s when Rick gave him the lifetime contract
wow, hindsight 20/20, good move by Hendrick
I was saying the same thing with another comment that had to do with JG to DEI. Given the role Jeff has now with HMS, They both made good choices
I thought Rick gave Jeff the lifetime contract when Aj Foyt tried to get him to come run Indycar full time
We need more of these
Speaking of Dodge remember when Andretti Autosport was in talks with Dodge about fielding a 2 car team in Nascar? I think Kurt Busch was going to be one of the drivers, but Dodge decided to bounce and left.
Sergio really only wanted to race Ferraris not Dodges
I remember Larry Mac announcing before a race that he heard from a good source that Junior was going to the JGR #18 sponsored by Visa.
It was also mentioned that Junior would have Visa as a sponsor on the #25 for HMS as well. It seems like they were pretty certain the Visa would the sponsor and they weren't even close.
In 2012 it was rumored Reed Sorenson or David Ragan to join 22 team.
Mark Martin going to yates in 2007 comes to mind. There were even rumors that he’d buy the team
Yeah Ford lost Dale Jarrett to Toyota and the rumor was they wanted to keep Mark Martin and offered him the 88 car.
another rumor was Jeremy Mayfield going to the 48 instead of Jimmie Johnson.
When there is a Earnhardt in that number 3 it goes fast

Worst until the late 90s.
@@SiVlog1989 Yeah, 1992 was pretty awful, too.
Tony Stewart said that Rick Hendrick offered him the 25 car in 1996. He said he turned it down because he didn't think he was ready.
Mark Martin offered the 28 to fill in for Ernie Irvin. Mark mentioned it on the Stapleton video he did.
