The game is amazing and after 50 hours i am still in love with it, but it can improve hughely with car customization, global time leaderboards on tracks, more tire options, rally courses and ofc modding making it possible to make your own tracks and cars
Man... i still play time to time 2D driving simulator on google maps.. driving on racetracks on googlemaps. Played quite a lot back then... that sim is still available
Gonna check this out. Don't think the tracks are an issue, they went with the idea of modeling (loose representations of) famous real world tracks... which yes will have repeated elements (grass, graval trap, paved offroad, kerbs, tyre walls, grandstands, etc) as there are build/design safety standards.
I have been waiting for someone to take 2D racing seriously! EDIT: Dang, I'm still waiting. Driift Mania and Racing Gears Advance will still be my go to top-down 2d racers.
Does anybody recall a top down game similar to this style (if i recall correctly) where you got chased by police (not GTA), It was at the Aladdins Castle Arcade at our local mall like probably 32 - 36 years ago. It had a steering wheel and gas pedal on it also. I've been trying to figure out what this game was called for many years now. I only remember playing it at that specific arcade. I really enjoyed playing it back then!
I was initially going to say that this sounds like A.P.B. by Atari, but then you mentioned that you get chased by the police. That's a game where you play the police. Let me think about this and show a few of my arcade-loving friends to see what they think.
@@DefunctGames Cool! Thanks! I appreciate it. I tried asking a few people I know and they don't recall it. But, I remember playing it every time I went there.
PLEASE tell me I can use a steering wheel in this game?? I NEED a top-down racing game with force feedback wheel support like the old arcade games! that would be heaven!!
Looks like a game I would buy if it were on console and on sale. My favorite racer is by far sega rally championship for the Saturn. I know it had an arcade release, but I never got to experience the bliss of that. The only problem with the game is that there isn't much content. Sega did the same low content idea with Daytona USA. Oh well, I love them both.
That's funny. On your Horizon Chase Turbo review I opined for a new RC Pro AM, and now you delivered one! Qofd: That's pretty general. So many sub genres in there. Burnout Revenge definitely has a spot. Diddy Kong Racing was really cool. Just to be different, I'm going to say the obstacle course foot racing game within Super Team Games for the NES with the power pad. It was a lot of fun with friends when I was a kid and had unlimited energy to burn off. Definitely not the "best" game but I have so many fond memories of it I feel it should be mentioned.
It's not especially new, but did you play Motorstorm RC when it was released on PS Vita and PlayStation 3 a few years ago? It's about the closest I've seen a company get to recreating the madness of RC Pro Am on a modern console.
nah, I somehow missed that one back when I had a PS3. In recent years I've been doing all my gaming on PC, which is something my younger self would have never believed. But, ultimate racing 2D might scratch that itch. Otherwise I'll just have to fire up the old NES emulator.
I pre ordered this game but still haven’t played it.. maybe I’ll give it a go now. That damn Black Friday sale has me stacked with too many games lol I guess it’s a good problem to have.
Favorite Racing Game? That's a loaded question! lol I love the genre and I can't pin point it to just one. Mario Kart 8 on WiiU and Switch is amazing. Every Gran Turismo game I loved (except the last one. I haven't tried it because I've read they really stripped the content out of it and made it where it's online only). Forza 2 was great. Loved Nigel Mansel's F1 Racing on SNES. The first 2 Formula 1 games by Psygnosis for PlayStation were cool. Rage Racer was another I liked. Top Gear 2 on SNES was awesome. Then on PC NASCAR Racing was just ridiculous for its time. RC Pro-Am on NES still gets played by me at least a few times a year.
Game looks like playing with hot wheels. So many to choose from and because of handling and vehicles they're all so different. Ridge Racer is always a blast but sometimes I feel like some Wipeout.
Does anyone remember an old, top down racing game from ubisoft ? It was even online through the browser, you didn't even have to download it !! MAAAAN, that was was sooo addictive !! 😵 It was a "formula one" game, with different tracks, with good graphics and difficulties, 100's of online players (had some REALLY good times with it) And then, they shut it down 🥺
There is NO doubt, no debate, its a gaming Fact, the original Gran Turismo on PS1 is the BEST racing game ever, especially if u compare it to the ability of the time it was released & the console it was released on, in comparison, a modern racer would have to look 100% Real & would nee to have over 3,000 New & Used cars ( Gran Turismo had over 700 cars! New & used!) & around 100 different parts of the car you could upgrade including several different types of realistic engine swaps, but u will notice there are NO modern game that meet those requirements, not even CLOSE, meaning by definition alone Gran Turismo 1 & 2 are the BEST racing games by a HUGE amount.
Favorite game overall is Forza Horizon 3. The physics may be a little too forgiving if you like hardcore sims, but theres a crapload of different events and more cars than you can possibly know what to do with. Only complaint is the world is not as big as Test Drive Unlimited, but TDU has relatively few events and no options when tuning, so its not a great game.
I remember being blown away by how ambitious Test Drive Unlimited was at the time, but but a little underwhelmed by its execution. Perhaps my memory is clouded by the fact that I ended up reviewing the PSP version, which was significantly scaled back compared to the Xbox 360 version. I'm not sure how successful that was for Atari, but they probably should have stuck with the franchise. It could have been a solid competitor to Forza Horizon and the rest of the open-world racing games. Also, I agree, Forza Horizon 3 is pretty damn great.
Eden Games. Atari was just the publisher. And yeah, very ambitious, poor execution. They wanted it to be the first racing MMO but they couldnt make it happen. The Windows version used Gamespy for the multiplayer, which at the time was already dead. Horizon 2 and 3 actually did a much better job with the huge online world.
I don't mean the music, I mean the game play sound. Shouldn't a review include how the game sounds as well as looks and plays? There is music on the background of your narration but I just find it frustrating when there are gameplay videos or reviews on RUclips people just put their own music choice over it. Many of us want to hear what the game sounds like as well as looks so it would be nice to take a moment in a review to do that. Appreciate the upload though.
I can see where you're coming from, but that's not the kind of review I produce. From my experience, people are coming to reviews to hear opinions and not hear what the game sounds like. That's the kind of thing best kept for gameplay or Let's Play videos.
I like how RUclips has detected the game as Super Sprint.
From a pure gameplay standpoint, this is incredible. From an aesthetic standpoint, it looks like you're driving crayons.
lol, exactly. It's not a good look when the sprites for each vehicle are constantly smaller than half the size of a RUclips avatar. :D

Some car sprites at 1:23 look ripped off straight from GTA 1/2 with no alterations.
Gonna check this out. Part 2 is on steam also. It's mod friendly also.
This is on PSN for under $1 currently. Looked up a quick review andni really appreciate your work! Sold me on it for sure. Lol
This looks right up my alley!
Definitely getting this on Steam
Thanks for the heads up on it mate
Good memories from mini racing online
I was a huge fan of split second
Have you tried Super Laser Racer - really great little top down (pew pew) racer
Thanks for the great recommendation. I'll have to look into Super Laser Racer.

Welp Ultimate Racing 2D 2 is out and it is amazing!
PLEASE tell me I can use a steering wheel in this game?? I NEED a top-down racing game with force feedback wheel support like the old arcade games! that would be heaven!!
top down game i saw never had force feedback they were big loose wheels that spin all the way around forever
I'm not much for racing games but I remember having loads of fun with Ridge Racer Type-4 on the original playstation, the soundtrack is really good!
makes me remind of supercars but without weapons oh boy wish they had like a mode or mod for that :D
Favourites are probably Mario Kart Double Dash and Sonic Racing Transformed. Amazing kart racers.
Looks like a game I would buy if it were on console and on sale.

I love the Forza Series, and Codemasters F1 games.
This game unfortunately has bad reviews. Also, it is actually a very difficult game.
I pre ordered this game but still haven’t played it.. maybe I’ll give it a go now. That damn Black Friday sale has me stacked with too many games lol I guess it’s a good problem to have.
Holy shit this game is hard lol
Very good review
my favorite racing game? ... hmmm good question, i think Fast RMX is really high, but mario kart 8 deluxe takes the first spot

great game, super skidmarks too
Ultimate racing 2d is toca driver but only for mobile plus rain

Fun fact- this is also a FREE mobile game
No, I’m not shitting you
I wasted years with the TrackMania franchise ^^
Android?
I believe it's only on PC.
Oh I hope they add on android :3
A lot of quality on your gameplay stuff!
Play a game called ''Diacrisis'' next time!
Ridge racer 7!
Not one single frame of the review bothered to let us hear what the game sounds like.
This is a review, not a gameplay clip. I normally include the music from the game, but that wasn't an option here.
