Single dev, making a game with this much content and quality. Absolute respect.
For more passionate Indie Racing Games like this, Night Runners, Art of Rally, Horizon Chase and others, since big companies wont do the best for us, we do ourselves
Invoking the name of Ridge Racer in the first 30 seconds, I'm so here for this game.
Riiiiiiiidge Raaaceeeeeer!
@@wile123456 Remember that one?
Been playing the game for some months now (I beta tested it and gave some feedback since I am the cover artwork artist) and I am really enjoying how much fun and enjoyment people are having with SWGP2, especially since I couldn't share that with anyone before this month's release.
I can relate with the fact that it's probably best suited for 25/30+ year old people where the nostalgia factor is a huge plus, but I also think the game is just good on it's own rights, and I hope it gets the recognition it deserves!
Great objective and unbiased "not a review", my friend! Keep it up!
Please tell the Dev Team to port this jewel to Nintendo Switch ! :-)
Hadn't heard of it before this vid showed up in my recommendations feed, and is now 100% on my must-have list...watching it immediately took me back to playing RC Pro Am and "World Circuit Series" [totally-not-F1-please-don't-sue] in the heyday of iso racers, and the hundreds if not thousands of hours [and hundreds of batteries!] I put into the genre back in the day.
This game is probably a proof that, all GT had to do with its campaign was follow the old GT's recipe, and add more depths into it.
I just bought the first one on PS5 because of this video 😂 awesome games, big kudos for the dev! I see how the second add so much content, more cars more tracks and tuning ! Wow! The first feel like a beta compared to this one! Still a lot of fun and challenge !When will it be ported to PS5? 😊
even if the camera isnt my style, I'd still buy it out of respect, making racing game is difficult, full kudos to the developer
This looks like a blast to play
It really is, I actually finished up this video last night and have since put in another 7 hours 😅 still having a total blast with it (but holy crap are these 500+hp cars fast)
Oh, it sure is, man.
I loved Super Woden GP. The sequel looks even better.
I really love that you branched out and showed us some unknown racing game content! I'll have to give this a shot. ❤
Idk how to describe it but it reminds me of those micro rc cars that were popular around 2010. The shapes were similar and it looks awesome!
This was a very well done review. You covered absolutely everything and went into exceptional detail. Brilliant work!
Saw a video by ThisisPete about this game. Purchased it as soon as I got home from work and have been loving it! Its so great to be playing a game where the love and passion is overflowing
Not something i'd play while sitting on PC, but hot damn i'd love to have something like this on a phone or one of those portable PC-consoles
The first game came to Switch so I would guess this one might as well, but yeah I've been playing it almost entirely on my Steam Deck and it's the perfect racing game for that format!
There's a similar, but rally focused game that's available on mobile. It's also on PC now, but it started life as a mobile game. The series is called Rush Rally, and the latest in the series is, well obviously, Rush Rally 3 and Rush Rally: Origins. I personally prefer Origins, because it sticks to the isometric camera.
@@Reaper1722 I have Rush Rally 3 and yea it's pretty good mobile rally game.
I have never heard about this game beforehand, but half way into your video i'm sold! This sounds absolutely brilliant and at this price it seems to be a no brainer. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this video, because I didn't know this game but will definitely buy it now!
3:31 fun fact, ViJuDa owns one of those IRL!
Yes!! I was really excited when I found out, we've actually been messaging a bit about them because we're both having troubles with ours right now 😅
@@HokiHoshi hes a great guy whos been working his ass off for years now, really glad of the success and recognization hes getting and definitely proud of him
Being the creator of the game from Spain I find it Obvios that his main reference in the racing mechanics is the Gaelco-Zigurat arcade game "World Rally Championship" known in Spain as "the Carlos Sainz Game"
I added this to my wishlist last week so I'm glad you've covered it now. I'll pick it up later today!
budget low end has always been where it's at in GT and Forza for me Lupo cup being my favorite race in GT
Looks like RC Pro AM, but with GT1 mechanics. Sign me up!
BRILLIANT that youtube recommended me this... Crazy to think about that took so long for such a game to be created
Saw it on steam and instantly got nostalgic for Asphalt Duell, which is an isometric arcade racer with weapons and my first game ever played.
So now I am playing Asphalt Duell but I will check this out after I finished the game
I haven't progressed much yet on this game, but coming from the prequel (the first Super Woden GP) and being a fan of top down racers myself, this game is a blessing! Totally worth the price.
Hell yeah! Glad you checked this one out!
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Just bought it and it's going on my Steam Deck ASAP.
A perfect game for the Steam deck.
Been really enjoying this game so far! Was stoked when I saw your video! Hopefully it’ll bring more love to it. I totally agree with you about the short time with lower end cars and having to grind. I’ll take your advice on the Caterham grind for credits!
Reminds me a lot of Circuit Superstars, but with a retro racing game with garage and campaign treatment.
this game is the kind of thing i've *dreamed* of since i've played gaelco's world rally in arcades (and i don't throw the name at random since it *is* the obvious and assumed influence of the developper, very much expressed in the dedicated arcade rally mode), mixed with a dash of kaneko's zen nihon gt senshuken series (and perhaps 1000 miglia?) and the flair of gran turismo. it's pure arcade cabinet fun action but in the involved career and progression of a full-scale console release ; the kind of experience that sums up the 90s to me.
i've played good racing games in 2023, but super woden gp 2 (i note that i wasn't aware of the first two episodes) tops them all. it's this weird sort of game that is *exactly* what i needed. i mean, can you imagine a game you've wanted for twenty five years without actually knowing you wanted it ? that's super woden gp 2 to me. i'd just played it for five minutes, and my brain just went... "yes."
i've seen 3 people I watch talk about this game now, it looks great. I'll buy it right now
Not sure about the camera, might still pick this up. I get that the camera is part of the game, but if be all over this if it has a chase cam like Art of Rally
11:27 I was literally playing GT4 a couple hours ago and used the RSC Rally Raid Car to wint the Tuning Car Grand Prix lol
Cool game! Reminds me a lot of "Mini Car Racing" on PCs
Love how a lot of the tracks are CLEARLY real world circuits (the first one shown is definitely the Brands Hatch full GP circuit but wuth waaaay too many trees, and I saw suzuka and monza in one of the selection menus there) but without the names. I wonder if there's an editor that lets you rename everything like the old racing games of the 16-bit era did that also didn't have name rights (Gerhard Berger -> Crashard Banger lol)
Or I could have just watched to 4:03 and found that it's exactly possible and done already 😂
You can rename the cars. But not the tracks, unfortunately.
This looks like so much fun, hope it comes to console like the original was!
thanks, I've been eyeing this game for a little while and this video is gonna put me over the edge
This game feels like a love letter to the early days of gaming.
Super Sprint, Off Road, RC Pro AM, RC De Go...
Oh god, RC de GO was my worst nightmare when I was a kid! Could never figure out how to drive properlly in that game. 🤣
I was easy at first IMO but got very hard at the end IIRC. Neo Drift Out was another classic. You might really like Retro Game Master if you haven't tried that yet. It's a collection of fake retro games based on the japanese show Game Center CX. It has a fun rally racing game.@@STRIDER_503
looks like a more modern RC Pro Am, and I LOVED RC Pro Am, so definitely on my radar now, thanks!
The isometric camera may be a deliberate choice, it gives the game its unique style.
But when I saw that career mode based on the best features of Gran Turismo career I imagined this: feature rich career mode like Gran Turismo, track racing, rally, maybe even street racing and tuning, Art of Rally style graphics and physics - everything combined into true caRPG. Like the Racing Lagoon of modern era.
Tracks remind me of Pole Position; from above they're the same shape as real tracks, but have none of their other characteristics.
A game ive played on my mobile is similar. Very fun. Its called Reckless Racing 3. Isometric. Excellent graphics.
This looks awesome! I never was a big fan of this perspective in racing games but I have had some fun with well executed games that use it and this definitely looks well executed. I may have to check it out.
holy shit i had no idea hard driving came to the saturn
I hope somebody makes custom camera position mod for it. It has a lot of things I'd love big racing games to have (mostly curated car list with proper amount of racing cars with quite populated classes) but I hate fixed camera position in racing games.
this would be the first game that would make steck viable imo
GT4 has always been and will always be my absolute favourite racing game, ever. Nothing will ever beat it. It was absolutely perfect.
Having an absolute TON of fun with SWGP2 now. Played 3.5 hours today and I only just bought it today, haha.
Reminds me of neo drift out
Damn this is way more featured than I initially expected, I expected it to be more like Art of Rally but an entire GT Career is so sick.
As someone who is semi-young still i definitely like this graphics style, for me the style itself is way more important than sheer fidelity in most cases. I do like games to be pretty but the trend of new games coming out that try push photorealism is just a bit tiring after so many years especially considering the PC Specs required to actually reach those heights.
Definitely giving this a look when I can finally get my PC back up and running.
I also wonder if we'll see a Chase Cam mod in the future for this like there is for Art of Rally.
Art of Rally is brilliant, this looks like the perfect partner to that
Reminds me of days in arcades with friends, on a 3 wheel setup on pole position.
I love the 1st one which i just got on ps5 on pstore for 6 cad.
Love it, i wonder apart from more cars, what's changed in 2?
I heard maybe more gradual, finessed controls.
This gamer looks like it would work well with a RC pistol controller! And yes, I'm getting Mille Miglia flashbacks!!!
wow.. this is a cool gem! it'd be nice if we could adjust the camera like in Rush Rally series 😄
This gameplay is giving me massive Reckless Racing flashbacks
Feels like gran turismo meets RC Pro Am Racing. Same top down feel.
This seems fun, reminds me to RC de Go back on ps1
video's not over but i've already bought and downloaded it. i am so keen.
Me: Okay who is combining Micro Machines and Gran Turismo here?
For the warning, what if the warning had the distance to the upcoming corner in meters and would decrease on approach. That would help judge corners
this is basically Power Drive for amiga commodore.
It reminds me of Asphalt Duel, a german game that me and my brother played for hours. Good Memories.
Knew I recognized that guitar riff
This reminds me of playing a game called reckless racing on my iphone 4 when i was 8yo or so
This game reminds me of Micro Machines from the NES days. Music is spot on, but a few of them I skip. Totally worth $12 if you're any kind of racing fan.
If I could buy this game, I seriously would. I get that it’s a sort of redo on GT only, but the art style is like the Automobilistic art style. I love it in every way.
I bet there will be mods that will change the camera angle.
Oh and the fact they have a 1965 Mini Cooper in the game is a huge plus!
I want this on my IPhone!!! Looks so fun!
game reminds of this old racing game which uses a similar view but you use an RC remote to play. Might try and buy this game and use my Noble NB4 to play instead. 😅
I've never liked this style of racer. This one looks good enough that I might try it out though.
Have you played RC De Go? It's a PS1 title that was Neo Drift Out meets Gran Turismo and very fun.
I haven't! I'll definitely give that a look
Cool, the camera might be more to your liking as it's zoomed out more.@@HokiHoshi
My first impression is this is actually a Choro Q game reinvented
was going to check out this game on steam and did not find it first, found that the game was hidden cause of my preferences?? not sure what they mean, but now i found it =)
It looks great, I love the visuals. It's almost too ambitious and a bit daunting for someone nostalgic about Supercars 2...
Isometric Camera
End of conversation
I want this for ps5 NOW
RC Pro Am!
so nice to see people still make actually creative racing games instead of the next same old "drift simulator" that looks and feels exactly like the last one and has nothing to do
Do you think it would be worth moving the camera to a high chase cam (ie. same angle/height, just locked to the back of the car) or would that take away from the nostalgic theme too much?
Due to the way the game is made it wouldn't even be possible to implement.
I never had a old school console. My first serious racing that I throughly enjoyed was Sega Gt 2002 on the original xbox. coupled with Halo 1 and JSRF. I wished that new GT 7 was like Sega gt, sega even had licenses, rally and drag racing. I hope thats what GT 2 and stuff was like. Also none of these games have like a team racing AI system. something like the game Juiced.. 1&2 wish they brought that type of career back.
Sega gt is a ripp off of gran turismo series lol
Can you perhaps provide a link to the txt file to replace the car names please
IS There replay after race?
"going off track reduces your speed considerably..."
Something I wished Gran Turismo had from the very start to counteract its unrealistic physics and how crashes can be used as cheating gimmick to cheat corners... another plus for the game
I hope they bring this to Xbox soon. I'm itching to play it!
Hard driving! Man I had that game, but for years couldn't remember the name of that. Game was terrible lmao
I want to love the game, but it gets very hard very quickly and I just don't have the time to devote to mastering it so sadly I can only access the noob parts of the game. :) Still well worth the price even then.
This is day 1 of me asking Hoki to bring back the dirt rally 2.0 series
Any plans for a console release? I note the first game is there but not this one
Really should be able to adjust your zoom IMO. its 2024 don't take away features...
But does it support triple monitor or VR!?!!😅
please Mr. Dev PLEASE don't destroy this game changing the camera angle, or make it an optional setting... there are always going to be whiny complainers on any games and these people will destroy the original vision of your game with constant never stopping demands... stick to your original vision... I see nothing wrong with the camera... people are so finnicky, this is perfect
at this point retro racers are on a rise just like retro shooters. we had boomer shooters, now we can have boomer racers
The game looks good but this camera angle choice is a deal breaker for me.
I`ve been hoping someone would make a racing game inspired by the old GT games for years, and I would absolutely be all over this, if it weren`t for the isometric camera, which is the one thing that kills it for me... Here`s hoping that either releases an option to change to bumper / 3rd person cam, goes that route for the next game, or that such camera options become available as a mod
Due to the way the game is made and the intention of the game, it's not possible to change the camera view. No option, no mod.
If you like the look of it, defs give it a go, man. I didn't like the idea of the camera at first, but I very quickly adapted.
As someone who really, REALLY wants to love this game, i simply can't get over the camera. I understand exactly the type of games it's following and why it exists. But there was literally no reason not to just have a chase cam where the the car is centered and the track rotates around it. Quite literally a bird's eye view of the modern chase cams we have, and not unlike you'd do F-Zero or other mode-7 style racer.
Heck, even if you wanted to keep the camera pointing north-west so you get to see all the of the angles of the car, just centering the view around the car and ensuring it's always dead center ( and zooming out a bit to compensate ) would be a massive improvement. The last thing you need is to have to constantly adjust your peripheral vision when you could just always look at corners predictably from the same location. This is specially annoying on an ultrawide monitor.
A great idea, but honestly it destroys playability.
Third time's the charm i guess?
I respect the developer immensely as is, I have enjoyed the game a ton. But as you said, given the fact that the camera can feel frustrating at times and some people aren't big fans of isometric racers in the first place, the option to widen the FOV or even choose a rear POV would make the game nearly perfect. I have no idea how realistic that is, but that would push it beyond masterpiece.
Also, the elevation changes and camber were pretty hard to get used to. The style and POV make them very hard to see, but retro is as retro does.
I've never liked topdown racers, otherwise it would've sounded good
Shame I can't really get used to isometric cameras. This looks absolutely great. Makes Forza's single player campaign look like utter garbage. Honestly, if one person can do this then why did a whole AAA sized team come up with car points and the most basic ass event list I've ever seen?
Yes, as much as I enjoy Forza Motorsport (2023), the single player campaign is crap. Took them 6 years 😞
>Isometric
Jesus, there's a reason the most revolutionaries racing games of the past abandoned that view. Stop using it in your indie games to make them look retro!
I was down right until I saw the gameplay. I've never liked isometric racing games and I don't think I ever will.
yeah, nice idea. but it's boring. wish it wouldn't be set tracks and also a different camera.
I think you reviewers are doing a great disservice by not identifying exactly what this game is trying to offer the player. I ended up asking for a refund but I don't even know if it will be accepted because I had already spent 2 hours of gameplay, but that's where the detail lies, the first hours of the game present you with an experience that is not what the game really wants to offer. Basically, it's NOT "Gran Turismo with a retro twist" when it comes to what really matters, which is the gameplay. People don't realize this until it's too late because you start off with cars too slow to realize what the game is really trying to do (which will become clear when you start to get past 300HP).
Super Woden GP 2 is basically a modern version of arcade games that used cars as an excuse to offer a rhythm game, such as World Rally Championship (1992) and Neo Drift Out (1996). These games have nothing to do with normal "isometric" games, or Gran Turismo, or racing games in general, they're all about reacting to indicators that appear on the screen, and you need to perform the "drifts" appropriately until the next indicator. It's like a mini-game involving reflex and rhythm, but which has nothing to do with rallying or racing other than in the most superficial way possible (graphics).
This becomes clear in Super Woden GP 2 when you start driving the fastest cars. The camera simply no longer allows you to see the curves to react in time, and this is done by design, according to the game's author himself (he wrote this on the Steam forums). The idea is to force you to react correctly to indicators while drifting (it doesn't matter the car, by the way).
In fact, the behavior of the cars is horrible, I don't know how to explain it correctly, but they seem "hard coded" instead of being something dynamic according to the game's physics laws. And that makes perfect sense when you note that he's not trying to offer a racing experience here, but a mini game that involves hard-coded drifting, rhythm and reacting to indicators. And with all due respect to those who like these games, they simply don't have enough depth to be really interesting beyond a few arcade sections. No wonder, Super Woden GP 2 is horrible for anyone looking for something with some depth to explore, it's just a braindead and poorly implemented mini game, behind a terrible progression system full of grind and bad designed menus.
It's perfectly fine to not like the game, it isn't for everyone, but I specifically show off and mention neo drift out 20 seconds into the video and state that SWGP2 is a "retro arcade racer with a Gran Turismo style career mode." This is made extremely clear within the first minute of the video. I also specifically state about 5 minutes in that the high speed cars are challenging to drive and require knowledge of the track in order to predict and react to corners.
You also like...saw the gameplay for yourself, so I'm truly not understanding how I didn't make it clear what this game was
@@HokiHoshi I commented on the wrong video, but the criticism of the title is still valid, it's not Gran Turismo with a retro twist.
Looks okay, but it's nothing like GT, sorry bro!
Have you played older Gran Turismo games? This is intentionally very similar, and if you look at Steam reviews you can see tons of people talking about how it's basically top down GT, so I'm not sure what GT you've been playin 😅
@@HokiHoshi But gameplay-wise, is like GT? Can you buy a City car for example and max the stats of the car, change parts and even buy the Racing mods needed to convert that car into a Racing machine? Licenses? Different Racing Events for different type of cars? Indurance races? I played Gran Turismo games all my life, i didn't see the full video, because in terms of camera and gameplay, is more likely Drift Out than GT. Is a wet dream to have a game like GT on PC, Forza is okay but i never liked the approach in those games.
@@lucashernandez7951 The gameplay is extremely similar to GT. Everything you listed is in the game, aside from license tests. There are lots of slow city cars that are able to be upgraded, there are tons of different events for different types of cars like muscle cars, oval racing, rally races, touring car and GT and prototype championships, there are endurance races and much much more. There is a combination of real and fictional circuits, you have to wash your car and change it's oil just like GT, it has a jukebox like GT4, dealerships scattered around the map just like GT, the whole game is very intentionally designed to feel like an arcade version of Gran Turismo
@@HokiHoshi That's nice, thanks for the answer, i will see if i can get it!
