  • This is an excerpt of my 2nd interview with Parkinson's disease Speech Therapist, Liz Robinson.
What causes problems swallowing for people with Parkinson's disease?
People with Parkinson's often have trouble swallowing. This can lead to getting food or drink in to the lungs, called aspiration, which lead to Aspiration Pneumonia - the #1 killer of people with Parkinson's.
    What causes these swallowing problems?

I am sorry you feel this way. But, I understand this situation extremely well. My father died from Parkinson's because he could no longer swallow and eat. It was a horrible end to a wonderful life. Swallowing disorders are not funny but a dark solemn approach doesn't make it any better. Laugh while you can. My dad would agree.
