First of all, either Eastern White Pine or Cedar are excellent choices for exterior siding; a much better environmental decision than vinyl, plastic, or cement. Using Eastern White Pine is an even better environmental choice in the Eastern U.S., as it's a geographic-relevant material, versus transporting Cedar from the western U.S. or western Canada. Its availability in a wide array of patterns for exterior and interior use gives Eastern White Pine the edge for design versatility.
!!! you nailed. I know a guy that burns everything in out stove. The vinyl is the worst, almost knocked him out. BUT I STRONGLY feel the choice for crap siding(not wood) is STRONGLY influenced by insurance companies and many contractors. Adjusters pass pretty vinyl and jobs are slapped done quickly all happy and price goes up...SO..is the influence from government. Like the conspiracy against public transportation....After all what is yours, is there's as long as payments and interest and insurance continues up and up.
PLEASE DON'T NAIL YOUR SIDING ON LIKE THIS, always use firring strips between siding and wall for air to move or moisture will cause mold and rot to siding and wall. You should also make a gauge for proper siding reveal. Nail closer to edge of lap, try to hit studs, usually NOT 2 foot apart. SO MANY THINGS INCORRECT IN THIS VIDEO folks !!!! This is a product sales video , definitely not a "how to".

So "105 siding" shouldn't be installed directly to housewrap and plywood? A "rainscreen" / furring strips should be used?
He was marking on the trim to find the reveal.
The young man was nailing the siding right the speaker haven't got a clue
According to Realcedar.com, the guy nailing the siding is wrong. Face nail just above the overlap (not towards the top of the board).
Is that story at the beginning of the presentation true? Tax on lumber harvest from your own land.
105 siding swells and separates really bad
Not if it's installed correctly
Please do not nail as shown. This video is about the environmental benefits of using wood not how to properly install lap siding
The proper way to nail above the lap right face nail right?
