No matter what the critics say, what the world had to say, this man delivered series one after the other. No other coach in Indian history had done it so consistently for their complete tenure.

The last one was priceless. I am a huge admirer of Ravi's objectivity. Now when he does commentary...the way he describes the game, you can never tell that he was the coach of team India. Doesn't show favouritism, doesn't tell personal stories of his coaching days and never leakes any dressing room secret. Thorough professional.

Sometimes when opposition players dont do well he as a batsman feel really frustrated rather than being happy about them not playing well. These people know that wins and losses will happen but cricket as a game needs to always win.

This list is missing the best one.. When he was asking questions, rather than taking them from journalists.. When he questioned the guy who accompanied Mike Deness to a press conference after the Match Refree Deness had unfairly and disproportionately fined Indian team and banned the Indian captain (for India's appealling in the second test) .. Deness wasn't allowed to answer any questions though for weird ICC Rules..
Ravi borrowed the mike and asked the smiling guy ( Probably a member of the South African Cricket Board),
"If Mike Deness is not going to be answering journalist's questions, what is doing here? We all know what Mike Deness looks like.."

If Ravi Shastri was half as aggressive during his playing days as he is while talking, India would have been much more successful during those days. An ultra defensive player bordering on being selfish, his contributions as a player was limited barring an odd World Championship played in Australia. As a coach too, he may be a decent motivator but does not possess any particular skill set that qualifies him as a good coach. He was just plain lucky and hence got the results.

We have to be in sync with the times, not with the year we won world cups. Gavaskar did not wear helmet in 70s because no one else did. We wear them now because everyone else does. In 2011, Dhoni's team was as fit as the others of that time, but now with England, Australia and NZ literally changing the course of the match with their fielding, even we have to keep up with them, no excuses. Else we only cry in the end that we don't win ICC trophies.
