AusArmour is acquiring parts to make our original Tiger I a runner, so we have decided to move on our Tiger I replica (featured in FURY) to a new loving home.
Beau and the rest of the crew got this terrific exhibit into running condition several years ago. Your re-enactor group would certainly be the talk of the town with this beast!
This was the first time we have been in this vehicle for about 2 years and it started first go (with the help of some jumper cables!). If you're wondering why the rear decks are open, they are quite heavy and we left them open so we could easily get in and jump start it (in case Beau stalled it).
Even with non-original type parts in it, it's still good to see another one of those beasts operational.

As an ex Scania Master Technician I did a quite 'YEESSS!' when I saw the engine. That DS14 V8 is a monster engine. Totally unbreakable. I restored a 143/450 with an earlier version of this with mechanical fuel injection which was 'fun' to set up.

Hi there, quick question or two: (1) which version/model year of the V8 engine with mechanical fuel injection was the most powerful and (2) what is its reliable power tuning potential?

1) It depends on the market to which you are referring. Euro standard engines put out the 450HP I mentioned in DS14 and DSC14 specification. the 4 series introduced electro mechanical and an R144 would put out about 530HP.
2) I have no idea for the simple reason at a Main Dealer we managed factory specification vehicles. We weren't a race shop.
Does it come with free postage and handling?

This is SO MUCH better than the "Tigers" used in Kelly's Heroes and Private Ryan, you did a GREAT job on the road wheels configuration, damn amazing effort !!! Looks GREAT !!!
I think the kelly is a T 34 with wooden slats.
Still better than the “panther” in a bridge to far which was a leopard 1 with additional parts

Of course we knew, they had no Tigers or Tiger mock ups. Those were great movies for their time, but seen with todays eyes, it's funny to see those tanks acting as tigers and panthers.

Outside of the tracks and suspension, it's probably the most realistic replica of the Tiger that I've seen ( well, other than the plastic Tiger at Koblenz and the running replica that the Russians created for the movie White Tiger but never used).
Yeah the Russian tiger takes the cake for most accurate replica

Have to imagine it would be pretty darned terrifying to hear one of those rolling up on your position, when you don't have anything heavy enough to take it down.... YIKES!

It also never had close by infantry support which is a big no no for any tank of any era

Brilliant stunt double. Thanks guys for sharing. You do such great work. Your on my bucket list to visit (from Tassie). I visited Bovington Tank Museum back in 2010 where I saw many great vehicles and touched most of them - including Tiger 131. Great trip that I will always remember. Cheers

A much more convincing Hollywood Tiger than the T-34 mockups we've seen in earlier movies. The only giveaway is the slightly higher placement of the drive sprockets, but it's still orders of magnitude better than the other faux Tigers we've seen over the years.

I am a 1 fanatic.Book upon book upon model,even original training manual,my 1/16 is on the way...now Aussies,even though you have some Russian chassis components,your ability to give the world a second functional panzer 6....is a gift from the gods.....l thank you for all modelers in the world and history buffs for taking this and recreating it....bless you guys...

Have you never heard of Tiger 131 the only running tiger left. It was restored to original condition. Try getting an Engine for a tiger is almost impossible.
For a replica Tiger tank, it looks way better then the fake Tiger T-34!

I would love to see the 88 on 131 be usable again just so people could see how powerful it is
It would probably be easier to have an 88 field gun fire, although with blanks you don't get to see the recoil, same problem when they fire FURY at the tank museum, its basically just a bang and smoke.
@@johnfarscape use paper or something similar to a wad to simulate the recoil? i read somewhere that's what they do with historical firearms like muskets.
@@nightshade4873 it's got to be of simular weight to the actual projectile to give a somewhat accurate response, with historical tudor or nepolionic period cannons we shove a load of wet straw and mud down the barrel to effectively cause a barrel blockage which does give some recoil, this does mean that nothing can be in front of the cannons for a very long distance otherwise it will get pelted with straw and mud hard enough to do some serious damage, it would be very hard to recreate that at a tank show for safety. . I have seen a system that uses pyrotechnics and a heavy sliding weight with a completely fake cannon that looked interesting, the weight is basically under compression via a large spring at the muzzle end of the weapon and when fired a pyrotechnic charge pushes smoke out around the weight at the same time the weight releases and hits against the breech end of the cannon causing an impressive recoil effect. . Lots could go wrong with that if scaled up though.
@@johnfarscape i see, i was wondering if it could be done but i guess the higher pressures would just spit the wad (and probably even merged it) out as a whole piece than being burned by the propellant or even scattered enough that it doesn't hit anybody in the direction the gun is pointed on.
although is it possible to do on ranges for demonstration?
here i am wondering if something similar to a direct impingement system like those found in small arms can be implemented in these kinds of large caliber weapons mainly to simulate recoil, i guess i can only leave that to future engineers willing to work on it.

That thing is Amazing!! So Awesome seeing videos of these things rolling through the dirt lol love it , although I couldn’t begin to imagine holding an M1 Grand in my hands and that thing rolling up on me lol
Excellent stunt double, even down to the the shrapnel holes in the exhaust shields.
Sprokets and tracks are a bit different from the actual Tiger unless these are the "rail transport tracks" used to ship the tiger from one location to another. Never the less it's an awesome Stunt Double!!

I’ve been to Bovington tank museum and up and close with Tiger 131, even though they were an engineering nightmare it’s still the star attraction.
Ironic that despite it being a wild hodge-podge of parts, it's significantly more reliable than an authentic Tiger I with all original parts :P
Betting it weighs 40 tons less helps!

The Tiger's unreliability issues are mostly just propaganda, it was pretty damn reliable if you actually look into it.
i collect model tanks and soldiers and seeing tanks like this is fantastic all the hard work you put into it,looks like the original tiger maybe not 55 tons but.........
I have to wonder if Bovington Tank Museum would be interested in it to go with Tiger 131 as it is a major attraction for them. Having this would extend the life and save on wear on 131 as this is a runner.

It's not exactly a 1:1 copy hull-wise right? Something about it seems slightly off.
the thing that is off , is that it as road track, not conventionnal all terrain track
Drive sprocket is too high. Hull is probably shorter than the real one.
Top of the hull about 5 inches too high. I measured it.
The sprocket is too far up and the idler wheel is meant to be down but I am really Impressed by the beast of a tank

Looks good but the front drive sprocket seems a bit too high.
It was only the front drive sprocket that ruined the illusion for me, everything else looks great.
When you put a gearbox in an already made chassis the drive sprockets are gonna be where they are not much you can do about it. However a larger diameter sprocket like the spoked ones on a real tiger just might tidy things up abit. Or lowering the floor of the tank both of which would cost a fortune.
@@warrenchambers4819 Yes mate, you'd have to work with what you've got and do what you can inside a budget. There is a vid on YT of some Polish (I think) guys that build Tigers from scratch, they use ex-Russian APC engines. Really worth a watch if you can find it.

I hope it's used in future movies. Keep the original models safe and well in museums where they belong. Start making identical remakes that can be used and abused.
Drive sprockets not in correct position (looks too high) and the tracks come from T-55 probably, because looks narrow to me, like the train transportation tracks of Tiger I..
Otherwise it's looks the most authentic, awesome replica of the famous Sd .Kfz 181 Tiger I early modell.

It would be a very close copy if the tank had wider tracks installed. Their must be originals out there somewhere.

I believe you are. As long as long as the guns are demilitarized and you have a special license to drive it around
I'm not sure that style track can have rubber pads added, plus it wouldn't be authentic... LuL. Are the tracks on it representing the transportation tracks, because the rear road wheels are at the very edge of the tracks. Also are they from the T-55 like the torsion bars, swing arms & other suspension parts. I am in No way critiquing this replica build, it is amazing, awesome & unique & I love it. Plus, with this you could drive it hard like in real world/battle conditions along with running things over and knocking into things without the worry & stress of it being an original piece of historical armor & it being priceless!

That is absolutely the best fake Tiger I have ever seen. Funny thing, though, the fake Tigers in Kelly's Heros look scarier than a real Tiger!!
