Great video Robert and a good demonstration of its sharpness at different apertures at the end. Despite it's minor issues, this seems like a great option for a budget lens as evidenced by some of your images displayed here! Great stuff mate. Have a great week over there!
Cheers Paul. I struggled getting decent images for this one to be honest. Not because of the lens, I think mainly just because everything is dead in winter, and I didn't have a lot of time. I think you can see from the shots that it's a pretty sharp lens though, and I think that's its main strength. Hope you have a good one too mate. Thanks for watching. 😊
Looks like a great lens Robert, if you are into macro photography a worth while investment. Thank you for this informative insight into the Tokina 100mm ATX PRO f2.8 macfo lens.
I rarely remember to look for macro opportunities Robert! I was out with the camera this morning and plenty ground interest with the frost and early sunlight where this lens would have been great - spot on review as always and amazing that some of those images are stacked in such high numbers !
I wish I'd had some frost Andrew, it would have made things a bit more interesting. I've stacked much larger numbers before - over a hundred sometimes! I try to keep the file sizes down these days though! 😁 Thanks for watching mate. Hope you're well. 😊
Interesting video Robert, as I'm just getting into macro photography. My Sigma 105 macro plus FTZ adaptor arrived from MPB last week, only done a few garden test shots, but really impressed with it 😊
The Sigma is the superior lens Clive, but I do still have a soft spot for the Tokina. Glad you're liking your 105 though - I'll be back to using mine in Spring. Thanks for watching. 😊
I'm very satisfied with mine which I've had for 6 or 7 years and it works great for more than just macro. Originally purchased for use with my D500, I now adapt it to my Z6ii in full manual. It requires a camera with a built in motor drive such as the D500 and most full frames for autofocus. I think you touched on this but having the motor drive is the key for autofocus and something that won't be found on the 3000 and 5000 series models.
Hi Andrew, I bought a Tokina macro atxi 100 after seeing your video. It is usex good condition. I have a Nikon D500. Why does every have a heavy blue tint?
I am sorry i did not understand you how does this lens work with nikon z mirrorrless bodies with the adapter...can we use autofocus and manual focus or there are limitations could you please clarify.
Thanks for clarification I own this lens and using it with a D7500 DSLR more than happy with it for snakes and frogs and using in difficult extreme humidity and rain jungle areas...but yes now I wish I would have spend a bit more and got a second hand nikon 105 macro because that was just 100 dollars more a lot of people wanted to get rid of thier nikon gear earlier now how the turn tables have turned 😂
@@Robert-Bishop it is more about a tech that is being phased out. i doubt this lens will be reviewed again. i owned it in the nikon mount. it would be intriguing if tokina made a z mount version.
Budget friendly in this day and age is always welcomed news! Now, let's translate that to a lower grocery bill...sorry Otis, you're down to one banana a day!! LOL
Look at the flickr pages of this and the nikkor 105mm 2.8 AF (d/non-d) and you can see, it's just behind the used $100 -$125 Nikkor in micro shots........ Did you just say it's not a true 1:1 macro at all apertures, either? In what range does it shoot true 1:1 then? 7:05 the lens is trash wide open. That's horrible. I have no idea why people are recommending this lens when the FAR superior 105 2.8 Nikkor is available selling for less money too boot lol.

Cheers John, appreciate the support, as always. 😊

Looks a great option for budget shooters, Robert.
Yeah, it's a good one Andrew. Thought I'd take a leaf out of your book and do a budget gear review! Cheers for watching. 😊

Well explained Mark, I presumed it must be something to do with either electronics or motors. Thanks for watching. 😊

What tripod is that? Seems pretty compact and light weight.

It's manual focus only when using the FTZ adapter on a Z body. Otherwise, everything works the same. Thanks for watching. 😊

Where did you get that ring light?
Just Amazon, I think. It was pretty cheap.
Where have you been? The lens has been out for over 5 years.
It has, yes. Not sure if I gave the impression that it's a new lens, that wasn't my intention. Thanks for watching. 😊

Haha, yeah - photography isn't usually the cheapest of hobbies! Fortunately bananas are still within the budget! 😁 Thanks for watching Bruce. 😊

can't understand a word he's saying. also why is the camera zoomed so far out? Stick to shooting stills.
