I saw Jen in a club in the early ‘90s. She had our jaws on the floor. She chatted with us outside between sets and was so laid back. I saw her twice after that when she was in Jeff’s band, and she played all those Hammer lines on guitar. Dedicated artist. Stellar player.
When Jenny first arrived on the scene many many years ago she played a set at GIT in Hollywood and tore a new one in every shredder in the room the guys watching couldn't believe what they heard no one and I mean NO ONE there had ever heard a chick play guitar on that level and with balls as big as any dude she was and is an incredible talent.
The greatest women guitarist that will give any male guitarist a run for the money, but she'd end up with all the cash, great great great,Jen, I love your work
+MrBlueshammer Me too - youtube has been great for me to hear music I could never have heard before the YT generation. If we had the internet 40 years ago I would have been a much better musician, for sure.
I would vote for Gretchen Menn because she's also unmatched in acoustic guitar. But, IDK, there's probably some woman out there no one's ever heard of who'd crush'em both.
@@charliepoe4935 I have not heard of her but she would have to be smoking hot to top Jennifer , Im not arguing that Jennifer is the best , just the best I have ever heard .
The first time I saw J.B. ....was at G.I.T. ....late 80's....I didn't know who she was....she did "Flight Of The Bumblebee"....all two handed....blew me away...had her as a teacher at M.I. when I attended the year course....loved her then....MORE so now!!!!....she'll ALWAYS be one of my FAVES!!!....
That's a cool story. She lives in Portland Or, and 6 years ago she had her custom guitar stolen, and it was on the local news. I don't know if she found it.

I got to see her play with Jeff Beck. He seemed to sit back and let her play the shit out of his material. For real. She was playing the majority of the solos. He seemed to love playing the fills.
Jennifer batten is one of the few people who can even try and play Jeff Beck's music. And not make a fool of herself. Jeff Beck (🐐) himself used to say how fantastic she was!
34 years ago I regularly sat in a guitar lab at MI and watched and jammed with her. I hadn’t heard a note from her after I left MI until watching another video of her a weeks ago. At that time she was known for her expertise in this new-fangled tapping thang - a sort of Van Halen finger magic but on steroids. 😂 At that time Frank Gambali was there too and everyone was doing these things he called “sweeps”. 😂 Paul Gilbert was also there doing this schtick where he would play lighting fast licks using a Dremel drill with picks attached. 😂 Oh, and then there was Scott Henderson, a guy with a complete shit attitude who literally got fired from one of the most prestigious gigs in the world for telling Chick Corea to go fuck himself. Gambali took over mid tour shitting himself ... lamenting to a group of us in a guitar lab one day that his sight-reading sucked shit and Chick’s music was insanely hard. 😂😂
It's just you... seriously, I purchased all her music when she toured with Mickey. I never really got it. She is an admirable guitar player, virtuoso, but her music is very peculiar.
Absolutely right! Someone mentioned Beck's influence in another video, and I didn't hear it there, but it's all over this piece. In particular, she definitely adopted his approach to pitch-bending with the trem. It's not like she was ever afraid of a whammy bar before, but back then it was dive-bombs and other '80s flourishes. Now she's using it to accent every note in a phrase like she's playing slide. I've never heard anyone but Jeff Beck do it as much or as well. She is just as good at it already. It's an inspiration to see someone who could just stick to what they are good at/known for who instead keeps adding to their musical vocabulary and continues to grow as an artist!

She was Michael Jackson`s official guitar player
In my opinion she is THE very best female guitarist on the planet .
In my opinion too.... She's great.... And very kind person too....
If u r right no one's to argue u😅😅

Freeway Jam. Excellent Jennifer...!
Every time I hear her the more I'm impressed by her talent! She's awesome!!

Great playing from Jennifer Batten! Really like her playing.
Wow. Thanks Marc. She's fabulous.
I didn't know she had played with Jeff Beck but having read it bellow it makes perfect sense ...very free flowing and soulful.
Just another night at the Blue Note ? Not. Few if any guitarists should attempt this cover but Ms. JB is genuine royalty. Shazam !
Tone, Taste, Technique, and Soul
She’s just cool... always has been👍👍👍
She's such a RAD player! The little riff at 3:26 holy SHIT.

Wow.
she is Jeff Beck Jr.

I don't understand why michael didn't ask to play on any of his albums.
😁👍
Batten's playing and soloing sounds much looser and playful since she played with Jeff Beck. Or is it just me?
before that she played a lot of allan holdsworth legato style!!!

100% yes. You can heard it particularly at 3:17 when she hits the whammy. Very similar to JB indeed.
she fucking rocks
If you played me this without telling me who the player is, i would have said its Jeff Beck☺️
You mean live with Jan Hammer band?
Is that a strat she’s playing...?
Jeff Beck is diggin it.
Whats the name of the song?
Jennifer batten is one cool lady...
I'd love to play with her...
