While the fill was a nice surprise, it would've been completely unnecessary had Jordan solo'ed on they keytar all the way through the instrumental section. Not like he couldn't, technique-wise, and not like his keytar doesn't have an expression controller on the handle. Also it would've made it a bad-ass duel-like thing with Petrucci. But oh well.

Having gone to over 200 live shows of well known bands and over 1000 live shows in my life, being an amateur musician myself, I'd like to think I have a pretty good idea of what I am talking about. Also, as a DT fan of the 90s and 00s, having been privileged enough to see them live, once in every keyboardist era, I've always thought they seemed bored on stage and wished for more stage presence. That comment above about showmanship < musicianship is very true, but there's got to be a balance. I stand by what I said and will respectfully agree to disagree, since it's your post and you're king of the castle. Drum fill was nice.
Gonna miss Mangini when he showed true class and professional drumming in DT: no overplaying, consistent tempos, the intense musical dialogs with the others and accenting what they're playing. DT felt like an organic (i.e. unforced by any single ego), cohesive band when MM was around. I wish DT never dumped him or even limited his musical creativity as written on that contract or whatever deal stating that he should not play all of Portnoy's roles, but oh well, the sands of time have fallen.
Damn, Johnn Myung does some incredible bass lines in this song... That last unison part with Jordan Rudess on the keytar, just amazing... Long Live The Prog Kings !!!!
It really pays off to teach your ear how to listen for bass in music. Back when I was young, I missed every genius thing that Flea did in RHCP when he wasn't playing a lead role in the song. Now with DT and Haken, listening for the bass parts enhances the song so much. Bass is really an underappreciated instrument, especially considering how someone who knows what they're doing with it, like Myung, can change the song entirely.

I’ve been a drummer for 28 years, Mangini is probably one of the top 5 drummers in the world (look at his resume) it was kinda disappointing listening to MP (who is a great drummer, just not in the same league as Mangini) playing this song and just skipping some of the double bass patterns live. Mangini is an absolute beast.

Lol, that's awesome. This music changed my life as a musician and drummer as well, as before it all I knew was Foo Fighters, RHCP, etc. It really opens you up to the possibilities of music out there.
Me too, saw them back to back nights. They called it the metropolis 2000 tour. Amazing. And I remember portnoy would take a photo of every night's crowd and post it on their website.

The whole band are amazing professionals. I love that they play the songs as close to the original recording. Most bands change the songs usually making them worse. 😆

These guys going along me from beginning of my life, since I discovered their song from album Systematic Chaos in year 2007, from that moment I never stop listening their music, because is full of energy, I feel much better after listening each of their song. I was one time on their live concert, hope to visit them in short period again. Best melodic and emotion music ever!
