It’s the exchange rate. For example the Model 3 Performance in the US is currently $54990 which makes it $79K Canadian at current exchange rates. Currently the M3P is $70,990 in Canada so the $9K increase brings the pricing in line with US pricing.
As someone who lives in BC, I was kind of surprised to hear that Trump is actually intending to follow through with his 25% Canadian tariffs. Looks like we're going to be in for an interesting time economically.
Who's getting the tariffs profit? Not us. The usa government is. So 51% of you voters that wanted Trump, how is that going to get into your pocket? IT ISN'T! What we get is the price hike on stuff we get from Canada and China. The government isn't going to pay those price hikes. WE ARE. Smart, give the government and billion dollar companies more money and we get more expensive products
Except the tariffs will be paid on a service or product produced in Canada. Tariffs are paid by the US consumer. Teslas are not made here. Their price increase is a result of Canadian tariffs on Chinese products. Many Canadian Teslas had been made in China.
as a Canadian, i hope that he does ! It is 100% Trudeau's fault with equal help from Jagmeet Singh. We 100% need usa. perhaps they can take all the car manufacturing back down south! That'll be something ! He can easily squeeze us until we cave. I'd love to be the 51st state! Please! Canada sucks now! I intend to move away soon anyway. god speed :)
The Tariff has been applied to Tesla’s by Canada. The tariff is on Chinese built vehicles. Both Canada and the US imposed these tariffs so now all Teslas coming into Canada are US built. That is the increase in cost to Tesla in Canada. The free trade agreement between Canada, Mexico and the US covers and includes assembled cars and their parts. If Trump were to put a blanket tariff that included Canadian Assembled cars then Canada is likely to add an equal Tariff on US assembled cars like Teslas. None of this has happened. The only tariff that affected Tesla and many components of all manufacturers is the tariff the US and Canadian Companies must pay of their parts. Tesla has moved into Mexico as has almost all Car companies in as a workaround. The US automotive manufacturers source almost every part from Mexico or off shore and only assemble the last parts in the US and Canada. This increase has been expected for many months. Tesla choosing to make it happen on February 1 is a distraction and a push to sell cars.
Canada should eliminate the 100% tax on Chinese cars, which was originally enacted to protect the Local car industry. But the Canadian car industry exists mainly to support the US market. The elimination of the 100% would be a more subtle way of responding to Trump’s tariffs and would benefit the Canadian consumer at the same time
Ughh... I'm in Canada and I've never owned a tesla but I have been eyeing the model Y for the past couple years, but kept holding out because of the juniper refresh that was originally rumored to be coming out in early 2024. Its nice to see that its finally revealed and I won't be waiting much longer, but it has always been a bit above what I wanted to spend on a car. Everything I saw was good enough that I was willing to go just slightly outside my price range to get it, and now that it is SO CLOSE and to know this is happening, its a real punch in the gut. Now I'm left questioning if I should just get a current model Y and save some money, but it really stings after waiting for so long and getting such a tease of what it will have.
That's fine. They run forever and you'll love it. Unfortunately, it's disgusting knowing that Elon is associated with this amazing creation by smart people
Sadly cars at this price point are still selling from every brand, and I can’t justify buying any of them…as long as they sell, they won’t have any reason to lower the price. More likely prices will go up as they look for more profit from fewer cars sold.
Well, it's 9:35 Pacific....after researching this subject, there is NO actual information from Tesla as to why they're making these increases...Canada is not levying anything extra. This is strictly a voluntary price hike by Tesla, and it hasn't responded to multiple requests for comment, and hasn't provided any info on its website either.
@@TailosiveEV Trump is applying tariffs to US imports not exports, so it would have to be a retaliatory CDN tariff on Tesla vehicle imports by the Canadian Government. Which would likely be applied to all vehicles, levelling the playing field.

Prices increased a lot even for model 3, and cause of price jump also 5k incentives is gone. I really wanted get one but rn its basically +10k for the price
So this is just reason #2645 why not to buy a Tesla. This is basically a self-imposed tariff with Canada by arbitrarily increasing the price of a certain EV brand for one country so that the Canadian market complains to their government to halt any additional tariffs on vehicles.
This is great news for Hyundai and new rivians to come in 2026 So much for Tesla's affordable model 3 and y for the masses that were never really that cheap to begin with. Tesla and Elon has other plans than being a car company. And it may fail according to Elon. You should probably read more about Teslas updated business plans and mission
Diversification, diversification, diversification. That's a lot of exposure to one asset, unless you've got ten or twenty million invested elsewhere. There are gamblers and there are investors. If you're not in the latter group, now's the time.

I hope that some kind of compromise is reached between the US, Canada and Mexico so that these tariffs will not be imposed. I voted for Trump but I strongly oppose these tariffs as well as doing away with the EV incentives. Also, if these tariffs are put into place, ALL vehicles built in Canada and Mexico will go up in price regardless of their source of propulsion.
