Literally came to comment how much I dislike this pod and how it keeps getting worse... I used to love hockey central, I tolerated previous versions of" thoughts podcast" but now it's just Elliot telling jokes that aren't funny, talking about his kids, talking about off ice stuff nobody cares about, and mentioning niche stats from the 80's nobody cares about. It reminds me of a dollar store version of the "effectively wild" baseball podcast... Except it is significantly worse... It's basically a Friedman one man pod that Kyle is here to facilitate, and I genuinely don't like it...
@@lunardestruction You're overreacting kid. They may start off with jokes at the beginning but the vast majority is hockey knowledge. They always have time stamps in the description so you can just jump to whatever subjects you actually have an interest in and skip the rest.

Great Pod! Eliotte, i always appreciate your wisdom and philosophical teaching. As for 4 Nations, i am a Winnipegger and Jets fan. But watching Canada with our Morrisey and Shiefele, my other fav is Duchene, sgainst my US favs Kyle Connor and Hellebuyck, is going to be so hard. I root for my country first. Canada. But also love KC and Helle endlessly and am beyond grateful for their dedication to our team and city. We know we have gold with them here. They know they play for a hard core hockey city. They wouldnt have it any other way. Surprised you didnt have Bouchard on the list. Cant wait for next week!
American here. The trick for all the teams in the 4 Nations Cup will be to find players who are willing and able to switch roles. Guys cannot play exactly like they do on their NHL teams. I think Canada has a huge advantage on defense with 2 sets of guys who are paired together on their NHL teams. Unlike Elliotte, I am not concerned about the Canadian goaltending. Logan Thompson is among the league leaders in save percentage and goals against and has a 10-1 won-loss record. Canada will be fine in goal. I know a lot of people are picking the US to win, but the only thing that would shock me is if they finish last. I could easily see a third-place finish for the US. Finland has the least talent on paper, but they all know how to play Finnish hockey and will fit into their roles seamlessly. I don't expect them to score a lot, but they will frustrate you and grind you to death. Anyone who has looked at that Swedish roster and doesn't think they can't win knows nothing about hockey. They have a ton of talent. It is going to be an awesome tourney, but I am picking Canada for one reason. Many of the players work out with stars of other teams in the summer to be better prepared for best-on best tourneys like this one. Canada will have better chemistry to go along with their talent, and that will ultimately make the difference.
What is with the media creating a narrative that sens fans dislike Brady tkachuk!!!!! This guy is the heart and sole of this team...stop talking about it like anyone actually wants him gone...
If/when they catch and punish a team on a tampering charge who wantsa bet it'll be some team like Columbus, Buffalo, Anaheim, Ottawa, the Islanders, that only the local fans care about. You know it won't be the Leafs, Rangers, Boston, Chicago or any of the big name teams. The way to tell is none of the teams that are always getting picked for the "Winter Classic" will be a team that is selected to be "THE example".
The Rangers are STILL a soft team..too much east/west and I do understand that it’s the new NHL but the standard is Florida and Tampa..fast but heavy and filled with back checkers..and the Rangers don’t have them.
Russia by far has the best goaltending out of any other country with Shesterkin, Vasilevskiy, Sorokin all slam dunk #1 elite goalies on any team in the league. I’d argue that Russia is the 2nd best European country at hockey (you could also argue that they’re the actual best European country) right after Sweden overall and it should be Canada, US, Sweden & Russia. Finland is simply the replacement for next best European country with an absent Russia team, so we’re not actually getting a legitimate international best on best we’re getting a technicality skewed version of international best on best.
I like Freeg and Kyle but I think there needs to be a 3rd voice. Podcasts with 3 just flow more naturally and you have more opinions and room for discussion.
The sens fans that complain about how Tkachuk plays are people that don't want to make the playoffs. They're probably the same types that see Karlsson as the greatest Ottawa Senators player ever lol sens fanbase is just as toxic and delusional as the leafs and habs fanbases

The best part of this podcast is that you can ignore all the boring/unimportant segments and listen to the one of interest.
