Money pit motors unfortunately been there done that. Beautiful to look at but, on all versions petrol and diesel ....... cambelts, swirl flaps, door handles, sills, ( sodden sound deadening material) the horrors of rear shock collapse, gear shift linkage , front wishbones, antiroll bars and every bush, misfires, clutch and dual mass expense, injectors, batteries dying due to alarm drainage, non working electric windows , not easy to reverse even with sensors of which at least one won't work. Front seat tilt release cable breakage, non working windscreen wash due to coiled pipe, etc etc, you'll need a second mortgage as an owner. Apart from all that they are great !!!!
Don't think its too bad personally. Its 18yrs old, and its almost half of the going price of V6 GTs. Yes some bits to sort, but I'm sure the owner knew that going in to the sale hence paying far less. A lot of it is superficial and can be rectified as funds allow. Great video btw 👍🏻
For a low mileage V6 and even taking into account the accident damage, he probably paid a fair price. Those alloys are shocking, though - it looks like they've spent a few years in the sea!!
I've owned Alfas for more than 40 years and I've loved and cherished every one.Would'nt have gone anywhere near that, how did the customer miss that damage?May sound silly but anyone who lets their alloys get into that state sets my alarm bells ringing off the scale.
Ever considered the buyer knew of some the issues and bought it to repair and then cherish? Not every car has to be mint to buy it, if it was we wouldn't have a classic car industry
Beautiful car, and a real bargain at that price, almost half of the average price here in Spain. I have the same model but with the JTD engine and I would love to have the busso. Great video as usual!
To be honest, I don't think it's that bad. The car is nearly 20 years old. The GT 3.2 I got rid of nearly 10 years ago, on the same year plate, was a lot worse. My wheels had also corroded like that and my floor pan was a mess! I think the car is a fixer upper, if you can sort the engine management light.
Definitely worth the price. Not a bad shape in general. I have the same car with the 1.9 jtd and 204.000km on the clock. Bought it with 177.000 two years ago. Everything works perfectly, engine doesn't consume oil, no errors on dashboard. The only thing that broke was the driver window control module fitted on the door, and I got a spare one from junkyard for 50 euros. Other thing was the airbag coming on occasionally because of the weak connection in the wires beneath the seats. I got the connectors tightened and I have no issues with that. Amazing how reliable is this car. I didn't expect that when I was buying it.
Same colour as my GT JTS - Blu Oltremare 567/A. Very similar condition too, minus the severe sill damage. Even has wing damage and a dodgy repair in the same place! Still well worth saving for the customer, but I'd be onto the seller about it quick sharp to ask for some money back (assuming it was a dealer).
I've just bought myself one of these and after 4 days driving I'm onto the final leg home now. My car appers to be in much better shape although at 11k EUR it was quite a bit more. Thanks for the vid and previous ones which i used to check over my one!
Stunning colour, stunning interior (but not fond of the red), stunning floorpan and stunning sound, but shame about the wheels and the undiscovered accident damage. I guess it'll cost that much again to repair and paint properly.
Good to see you back, I`ve not had you in my suggested videos for aaaages.. Nasty surprise for the owner, he obviously didnt take anyone with him to inspect it when he got it.. Looks like an £500 special from copart followed by a bare minimum backstreet "repair". Is it showing on a HPI check? I wonder how much damage is behind the filler on the sill.. On the up side, it looks relatively recent, so in theory it shouldn't be too rusty behind the filler.. I`d also like to see how much damage is behind that front bumper cover.
Sail Blue . My first 156 was that colour.. No surprise about the wheels. I had 2 156, 2 Gt, and my wife had 2 147, and 2 Gulietas, which are both still owned. The wheels all corroded badly. Her current 16 plate car has had to have them done and ir is only on 24000 miles.
Just had the teledials on my 156 GTA refurbished. Worth every cent of the A$1100 (about £550). There wasn't any corrosion (Australia is pretty kind on that front) but after 20 years and 250,000km, there was plenty of kerb rash and peeling paint. Now look factory fresh, but boy are they hard to keep clean....
I’ve got a 2007 GT V6 with 110,000km on it, with the same Jetfin wheels and mine don’t have a mark on them. The car doesn’t have a spot of rust either. Not even surface rust, anywhere. I’d hate to run a car in the UK. Must be a nightmare.
Still gorgeous and worth it to fix her up properly, assuming the engine and mechanicals are all in decent order. Had a similar experience with an 8N VR6 TT, 9 months later she’s still an ongoing project. Cars like this need more heart, and less head. Oh and money, they also need money.
I think he was done big time, maybe it a 3000 grand car top if even that, but with a wing and fresh metal in the holes plus paint and second hand alloys its a project car. I do love the colour ❤
Had a silver 1.9 JTDM with the red leather a few years ago, The blue and red don't really go imo, lovely looking cars but I had no end of problems with mine.
New wing, front bumper, sill, wheels and paint? Hopefully the inner front end structure isn’t deformed by the bump it’s had. Think the buyer paid over the odds though - I’ve seen similar mileage 1.8T-sparks and 2.0JTS (remember the V6 costs a lot more to tax, so doesn’t necessarily commend a premium selling price) for under £4k. Hope the owner decides to have a proper job repair and not just another bodge done!
Neil, there is something very odd going on with your website, it's going off to what looks like a dodgy captcha page. Do love a bit of Alfa content so I've subscribed.
@@ItaliaAutos Looks like it's offline now, so it's a start I guess. I had a Gt when new. Great Alfa, looks great, practical. But that underside would have me spitting. It needs a new bumper and wing and sill work but doable.
Neil I’d take a car that needs only a set of wheels, a bumper and left front wing over one that needs rust repairs. They are cosmetic and you can still enjoy the car without being afraid of the cancerous rust. I cannot comment on UK prices but I’d have bought it myself.
After nearly 2 decades on the road its quite decent. What I really don t like about this car is its interior .The red does not go well with a blue exterior.
Whoever did that body work/repair, never did it before. That’s unprofessional work and it is a shame for this nice car. However, that car is 18 years old and is a wonderful Busso with a good interior. The owner should spend in good maintenance and body work/repair now. A professional paint rework/polishing can also help to bring some shine back for less money. Okay, the wheels need a replacement, maybe with used ones.
I think the lesson here is take someone with you with car knowledge when buying a car because I would have literally walked away from that. It’s obviously all repairable at a cost
Im surprised some buyers miss obvious signs of repair when looking at cars to buy. I could have done a better job painting that front bumper with a paint brush and the buyer didnt notice it?
Ouch. Prob 3.7 more appropriate. A grand for the wheels and tyres. Tbf, some of that stuff, bumper broken for eg, he could have caught at the point of sale and pressured the seller for more info
Even if it needs a couple of grand spending on it to rectify the bodges 6500 - 7000 for a low mileage v6 seems about right...if it creeps up towards 10k then it's not a cheap car anymore but think he's done ok sure you will work your magic on it Neil.
Neil if it was your money would you get a 147 GTA or GT with the. Busso V6? From what I can see an equivalent 147 would be a good bit more money, but the GT specific parts sort of scare me a bit in terms of availability
I had a 147 gta. It’s a lovely thing, but Neil’s right. The weight of the engine in the nose of a small car is quite noticeable. I tried upgrading the suspension with the Autodelta system.
