Like Tim said, she's getting there! Very proud of her and I think the artistry will get a little better. Just have to commit to it at worlds even if it feels weird to her

Her FTDL looks better than ever! I appreciate that she is trying to give us more artistry, hoping it'll continue to get better. This would be really beautiful if she can commit to it fully. Especially love the choreo right before the last pass!
I love that she’s adding more dance, but I think she and her choreographer should work more on connecting to the music rather than adding more choreo. Her tumbling is always so clean, she’s a gem to watch.
She makes the tumbling look so easy. Great to see such a huge smile from her after. Personally I think artistry has improved but is still lacking. She might be better to try something more like what Mai did? Very decisive dramatic movements...
So strong and graceful combined. Jade is so gorgeous. SOOO much respect for these young ladies. The mental toughness to last through the stresses of Covid, Added to the usual stress of Olympics. Then you stop and think, 🤔 these ladies haven't stopped in over 2 years straight. Olympic trials, Olympic games, Gold Over America Tour, NCAA Athlete of the week four times in her freshman year and now prepping for what hopefully is a trip to Paris in '24. DAMN!!
She looks way more relaxed than she did in Tokyo, but I think that she still needs to work on being less tense. But this choreography and the music selection were so much better for her, and she really made massive improvements.
@@asharadayne6159 yes! She seems like she is at home now. Still a little tense, but that’s fine. It’s so wonderful to see the growth she has had since 2017. People try to give her a hard time but forget how far she has come. Let her continue to train, grow, and inspire. Great job, Jade. 🥰🙏🏽🥰
To be honest I don't think her artistry is going to change. Jade knows her capabilities and knows that she will never be that type of gymnast but the tumbling will always set her apart
@@gymns411 yeah, she's really made huge progress in just a year, which is a big deal when it comes to things like artistry and musicality, and it seems that her coaches are giving her better direction and material. Plus, she's always been great at tumbling--she's not just powerful; she also has great execution. I know that she didn't throw the Moors here, but she and Biles are the only gymnasts who really do that skill justice. Plus, her Chuso and Silivas were amazing here. Most of the top floor workers will include one of those skills in their routines, but not too many do both or do them as well as Jade does. What I'm saying is that she's definitely never been a difficulty chucker.
I just went through the FIG artistry deduction checklist to see where she might lose points. I tried to be strict because I know international judges will be. ARTISTY DEDUCTIONS *Poor body posture:* Good. Her chest is up and in front of her stomach, head is neutral, shoulders back. (-0) *Insufficient amplitude/elongation:* She is definitely putting effort into this, e.g. when she brings her arm out, her head/neck, and a lesser extent her shoulder, will follow it. This could still use some work. (-0.1) *Poor foot work:* Could use work. Jade seems to have naturally flatter feet, yes, but sometimes when she lifts her foot off the floor during choreo sections, it just looks relaxed. (-0.1) *Insufficient movement of body parts:* Good. Lots of head, shoulder, arm, and trunk movements, body waves and contractions. (-0) *Poor expression/engagement with music:* Definitely still needs improvement. Her actual choreo fits the music pretty well for the most part imo, but you can tell she's just going through the movements. She also doesn't have any facial expression, and I can't discern any emotions. She doesn't have to be all smiles and sunshine (that wouldn't make sense with this music anyway), but I'd love for her to look fierce/angry instead of just... bored. I would take the harsher deduction. (-0.3) *Lack of fluency/exercise as a series of disconnected elements:* Some parts were pretty good, some parts eh. As a whole, her dance still seems rather choppy, though I liked the beginning bit and end bit of choreo because the pauses in her movements match with those of the music. She is definitely trying to make her routine flow better, but knowing FIG, they would not giver her credit for this. (-0.1) COMPOSITION *Insufficient complexity/creativity of movement:* While she uses all parts of her body, she repeats a lot of the same movements e.g. bending forward, brushing her arms to the side. (-0.1) *Poor corner choreography/lack of variety:* She does something different every time she goes to the corner. I think this is fine. (-0) *Missing movement touching floor:* The last few seconds of the routine are on the floor. But personally, I would prefer if she had a section in the middle on the floor as well. Judges love change of levels. (-0) MUSIC & MUSICALITY *Music edit - no structure to the music:* Music cut is fine. (-0) *Lack of synchronization between movements and music:* She does a pretty good job of matching her choreo to the beats of the music and hits her end pose on time. (-0) *Background music:* Not entirely sure what this means. But as a whole, I think her routine matches the music, i.e. it's not just there for background noise. Any other random song wouldn't fit as well. This could be a 0.1 or 0.3 deduction, but I think her choice of music is fine. (-0.1) Total artistry deductions: 0.8. Would be curious to see others' opinions on this!
Thanks for going through these point by point! This was really helpful to see. I completely agree with your evaluations too. I'd be curious to see how her performance here would compare to the artistry deductions that she would've received in Tokyo under the new standards.
@@katekramer7679 perhaps it’s those artistry deductions plus: First pass: hop 0.1 2nd pass: hop 0.1, leg separation 0.1, flexed feet 0.1, low chest 0.1 1st leap pass: lack of split 0.1, small hop 0.1 3rd pass: low chest (parallel to floor) 0.3 , small hop 0.1 2nd leap pass: posture (bent arm) 0.1, small hop 0.1 4th pass: small hop 0.1 That’s 1.4 in deductions, so if they didn’t take some of the artistry deductions or judged more leniently, then that’s about right.
