not really when you consider that etoro is possibly most famous for its copy trading products and all copied trades are cfds. Also all leveraged or 'short' stock positions are CFDs. Only 'buy' positions which are using no leverage are the underlying asset...

I enjoy your videos and I agree with what you've said but it's important to point out that the 76% refers to retail investor accounts losing money when trading CFDs, not necessarily when trading the underlying asset. I'm still very much a novice in this area but I think that's a fundamental difference. That said, your advice is still solid and there are so many panic buys and panic sells where people are trying to live the get rich quick dream!

For me, getting ~5% ROI annually above inflation is great - if I could get that consistently, I could start from zero and retire in ~15 years. That's already much better than most of the population, who work until old age, and die poor. That in itself sounds like a goal worth pursuing. Once I'm there, retired in my 40s, I can start thinking how to get rich quickly ;)
Getting 20% APY would be amazeballs, meaning I could get there in ~4 years, rather than 15!
I really don't get people who scoff at these ROIs. Unless they're like terminally ill and have very limited time to become billionaires.

Thank you!:) I just opened my Etoro account and I put exactly 500 bucks in, but I didn’t buy anything yet... I took a class on investing and started to consult with an specialist to learn a little more, before starting to actually trade... I’m also watching some videos to learn more about etoro itself, and this video has definitely helped me to get a better perspective and recenter myself with my mindset. I still do believe that right now is a really good time to buy stocks from the big companies that are suffering because of this crisis, but that are big enough to survive it, and then once their shares go back to “normal” whoever is buying them now, should have some nice profits!!!:) I still would not sell, at least I don’t plan on doing so, I just want to take advantage of this socially sad, but for new investors, economically good opportunity, to enter the market.... I’m thinking of buying shares from someone like Lufthansa, Mariot or Hilton... because I believe and if I’m not mistaken I saw that they took a big hit (at least Mariot did) because of the Corona virus, but I believe that they will make it through this “phase”, and once they do, I want to be with them ;) I’m still not sure if I’ll buy from them or someone else, but what I’ve mentioned till now, is pretty much where I’m at mentally before buying my first “thing” with Etoro!:))) I already invest on the equivalent of the treasury here in Brazil!:) and I was wondering if I could invest on the US’ equivalent, from etoro... do you know if we can do that there?? Once again, thank you very much for your video!:))) have a great life!:) a be safe!!:)✌️

I don't know which ones I'd buy right now, as who knows how long this will drag out or what the long term effects will be... I'm copying the guys I'm copying so that they make those judgements as really, I don't feel qualified to (plus I don't actually want to be a trader - I haven't got the nerves for it...)
There is a U.S eToro, but it's only for cryptos as I think eToro is still trying to pass SEC approval to offer all their other assets in the U.S. I'm not sure what the current status is with that though.
Hope it all goess really well for you!

Great content Thomas. Been on a similar journey and reached this more grounded outlook with your help. I found this compound interest calculator which is quite an eye-opener really. Check out what happens with an initial amount of 1000, adding 200 a month for 20 years with a return of 15% per year with profits compounded monthly. Total contributions would be 49,000 and the total value a whopping 319,000. There's a graph too that really brings home the fact that it takes a good few years for results to really be noticeable.

Trading is not so simple. You cannot calculate an static value for each year. Using an filter for traders that have traded on eToro last 365 days more than 40 trades over 400k users with public profiles are only 26 traders that have 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 with more than 5% profit in year in a row.
With 15% (your calculation) last 3 years in a row are only 7 traders on eToro with public profile and i hope you are copiying one of them without calculating that the past cannot guarantee the future.

@@chamboyette853 well yes and no, for example with lower capital its bettee to be risky and with higher capital look for safety, this is just an example of how it deppends on yourself how you invest and why you should have a custom portfolio. That said, I would recommend copy-investing rather than not investing at all

I used to bet for a living. I made good money but my turnover was 50,000 Eur/Month. To make money you need to PUT IN money. I see people betting with 10 Eur or 100 Eur expecting they will make money. It won't work. I can guarantee that. If you put in peanuts, you get peanuts. I used to make 3,000 Eur bets and that's why I was able to make money. Yeah, it's not a comfortable position to be in but you get what you put into it. I had days where I lost 5k in less than an hour. Not a good feeling. But I kept betting because I believed in my strategy. How much was my profit from 50k turnover a month you ask? 6k. 12%. It's not easy.
If you want to make quick money then crypto trading is where it's at. Easily 20% a month if you know what you are doing. I made 80% profit on my account when Bitcoin was crashing from 20k. And no, not from shorting. From going long! Stop and think about that for a moment. Everyone was panicking and I took advantage of it over that month. For experienced traders the crypto market is like taking candy from a baby. If you want to start trading, it's the place to be. The crypto market is 90% beginners and 10% professionals. Stocks is 90% professionals and 10% beginners. Good luck making money there. You will be outplayed at every turn. It's like fighting a professional boxer. The odds are stacked against you. Crypto is a golden opportunity for beginners. Go where the odds are in your favor.

Hey my friends, really great video but wanted to add that 20% is still a lot. To be fair anything around 10% per year is really, really good. You won't even get close to that revenue in any bank or elsewhere. Furthermore, if you keep saving some money of your paycheck and keep investing that into your portfolio you will be doing really good in 5, 10 or 20 years. And your portfolio will definitely grow.
Also don't be scared to sell stocks sometimes and just have some cash without rebuying any.
For example right now the stock markets all around the globe are weak. It's ok to have only 75% or 50% of your available money invested (should be in stocks you really trust on the long run) just wait until the markets recover (don't try to catch a falling knife) and then buy in later with your left available cash money.

This! Whatever you do investing, remember - there are people around the world buying houses, doing all the paper work, maintaining it, doing repair work, take the risk of the tenants not paying rent, the risk of house price going down, the risk of not being able to find renters etc....
All this, sometimes just to make 5%... So if you can make an average of 10% average over 30 years, you have done an amazing job - also depending on inflation in your country. If your currency is inflating at 7%, you should aim higher for taking risk.

Could not agree more actually with this, that is exactly why most the money is lost. Retail trying to get rich quickly, chasing big winners and forcing it and it's not that
Also, not realising where you are in the process. This takes years and years to become proficient. Beginners believing they can be the top 24% and above at the start? Take a step back and realise how stupid that even sounds. Even if you come in during the right conditions for what you're doing, they then change and good luck turns to big mistake. What you're doing is learning not getting rich so don't throw huge money at it and realise where you are until a few years of being consistent over different conditions

I think it all depends what we invest in - some assets seem safer than others, but I'm really not sure what's going to do well right now - everything seems very unstable. I'm currently really interested in the metaverse and NFTs, but to be honest, as an investment, that may be the riskiest one yet - it's still where my interest is though. I think there's a chance that the 'metaverse' (online virtual worlds) may replace the current internet as we know it, so can you imagine the possibilities in terms of new markets to explore and new business opportunities? Especially around online education etc. I think for a lot of people, it may be worth investing in whether their current services can be offered in the metaverse, and if so how.
      And thanks so much :)

You forgot to mention that the 76% refers to CFDs only, and Etoro refers to it because EU regulation (and probably also in other places) is that any broker who offers CFD must warn its users about the risks. the 76% is pretty much the same as any other platform that might use much less 'friendly' GUIs (Plus500 e.g.) It has nothing to do with Etoro's interface, it's just how CFDs are - rip offs.
I don't think most people use Etoro for CFDs, there are better platforms for pure CFD trading. Etoro is primarily used for copytrading (basically a new version of portfolio management), which are mostly on assets not CFDs. I'm afraid you were just terribly confused here.
