- Match and riot highlights. Celtic score a late winner, hoards of unwashed from both sides invade the pitch, leading to pitched battels between both sets of fans with the police struggling to cope ... the outcome ... an alcohol ban from matches in Scotland.

0:00 "Celtic here are in the hooped shirts". Thanks for that Brian, I was really struggling with that one...
One set of fans invaded the pitch to celebrate the win (as was common in those days) and the other set invaded the pitch to attack them. It's not hard to see where the blame lay. But of course the Scottish media and football authorities blamed what they called "old firm fans". I've been following Scottish football for 60+ years and I've yet to meet an old firm fan.
Would say that is as rare as rocking horse sh@t.
The blame lay with the shame.
I'm an old firm fan!😂
Davie Cooper and Tommy Burns - 2 legends taken from us far too early - total respect - RIP
George McCluskey was also underrated but that was what professionalism in Scottish football was like then, McGarvey, McGrain and McCluskey would be millionaires now as would be the two late greats Burns and Cooper. Strange old days and strange to think McGarvey is a carpenter and McCluskey a taxi driver now, just nuts to think about and wouldnae hear that now.
Makes you proud to be scottish
Rangers lose a game of football and start a riot, imagine that!
Don’t talk crap.🤌
@@coniferclose Manchester UEFA cup final.
An entire episode of ‘crimewatch’ dedicated to the hooligan element of the original Rangers fan base who trashed Manchester.
Celtic win a cup and the taigs invade the park ..only to get chased & battered , imagine that ! 😂🔴⚪️🔵👊👊👊
@mazyrun09 looks as if it's all the huns that are the casualty s body's all over in there goal mouth
@@DavidBroadley-tw7ks ..in “there” goalmouth ? Think you might find “their” is the correct spelling taig-bhoy . We chased yous allover haaampden 🎶🎶🎶🎶
The rangers fan and dad crying in the goal at 7m30secs begs the question?...WHY THE FUCK YA WEE HUN ARE YOU ON THE PITCH!!!!
I was in the mixed main stand..fighting broke out there too..then we couldn't get out cause huns charged the stariwells..luverly stuff..i was 13 hehe. our double decker bus limped into the hillfoots with 2 punctures and 2 windows left intact...my dad brought my mum and my gran to show how safe old firm games were..we spent the whole journey home on the floor of the bus covered in glass haha..loved it
What the actual fuck? Ma da and granda were there, but they left quick and pronto. I didnae know about the bus attacks! Jeezo
Amazing! Sounds like the Glasgow of old
when the celtic fans charged was the best moment all the huns ran
celtic people are slimy short pug faced nonces. their biggest love isn't their football team or heritage but their own daughters.
Seemed to see a lot of Celtic running when they were charged looked like they only got brave when police on the pitch
Huns don't run but timmys do
I was there as a ten year old ... Rangers dominated at times .. But Celtic stood tall and took the trophy home .. Davie Cooper was outstanding .. As was Danny McGrain .. Great final .. Just can't believe it was 44 years ago
Isn't it strange, Everytime rangers lose the final there's a riot
Wasn't a riot in seville so your point is🤔

i live in manchester, the fans i met were brilliant, especiallay whe i told them i was a Celtic fan fae Coatbridge! The look on their faces was great . unfurtunateley i had to do through piccadilly at 7 am the next morning on the way to work.. all i could feel under my boots was broken glass and the smell of urine was disgusting.
It's all that inbreeding that Rangers fans did years ago that causes the problem.
Thank fuck their team is no more.
Not the first time that old Rangers couldnae hack it and started a riot
My dad lifted me over the turnstile that day. Even from an early age i could tell The Shame couldn't be trusted.
cry about it
@@livruiz6973 Shut up ya Fanny!
CMON CELTIC!!
Excellent hilites, nice quality, thanks a ton! Wouldn't mind seeing the full match.
Was at this game. Only one set of supporters to blame for the riot .the usual suspects the mob in blue. Couldn't handle getting beat, somethings never change.
That commentator was absolutely loving it.
Rangers fans caused all that, Scotlands Shame!
Scary thing is 30 years on and things arent much different...
Damn, it took 11 years for someone to like your comment 😁
Something disastrous definitely happened a year after your commnent though ... Rangers 1872 got Liquidated.
my god...i remember this...classic
Rangers still have changed after 31 years. Still can't take defeat
There must have been one hell of a punch-up outside
That was probably a more entertaining way of settling a game than penalties…….all square after extra Time…….FIGHT!!
I'm actually impressed how both sides are playing. Some real skill out there.
If the highlights are any indication, this was one hell of a match. Love to see the whole thing.
It was actually a bore fest for once m8. I know it's an old post but incase your still around thought I'd let u know
@David Broadley well m8 sorry but I was happy with that result lol
@@joepaccrakurii1227
It being a good result for your team doesn't mean the game itself was fun to watch.
Celtic stitched player numbers on their shorts. The green fabric of the numbers would be almost invisible against the hoops. I think in the nineties, they put a white square on the back of the jersey so you could see their numbers. :)
Something about these old soccer matches. The calls made everything interesting with no video review, the balls were high flighers, the players weared short shorts and the soccs didn't look like pants, and there was no adverts on the jerseys, plus there was better fan supports.
I remember the good 'old soccer matches' too ..yes, way back when there was 'no video reviews' in Scottish football' ...let me remember how long ago it was.....ah yes. way back in September 2022 (less than 6 months ago) 😝😂😂😂
Brilliant. I miss the terraces and outright bedlam.
You know you got a rivalry when you got fans talking about what happened 400 years ago. I mean that just takes it to a whole new level.
I was at that game, 17 years old, it was a nightmare , fans at the top of the terracing chucking bottles and cans full of piss down below at the police and hitting folk lower down. Nutters running onto the park, grown men from my town fighting each other. Then back to Glasgow Central avoiding the extreme violence, dodging bottles and fists, knives and boots. The last thing was a brick though the train window going though Johnstone. That was the last game I ever went to in Glasgow.
apart from that did you enjoy the game?
The common denominator Rangers lost not saying Celtic fans are angels but going back even to the 1950s always big trouble when Rangers lost finals against Celtic.
Guess the unwashed didnt appreciate that last minute goal then :D
HAIL HAIL
Always hilarious when someone throws the term ‘unwashed’ at Rangers when it’s been used to describe the soap dodgers from the East End for 100 years. Can you not even think up your own derogatory insults?
Nice top! was that from the Topman website ?
@saffibaffi you know what i meant.85-86 season. Also for your information i stay 25 mins from celtic park.Thats local enough dont you think?
A fair point, but casuals usually never kick off with fans unless it's "agreed". As far as I'm aware there have never been riots during a game on the actual pitch between the ASC and the CCS, for example.
It reminds me of the 2016 Scottish Cup Final.
And The 1972 ECWC Final.
And The 2007 UEFA Cup Final.
2008 UEFA cup final you mean.
Rangers didn’t get to the 2007 UEFA Cup Final, we got to the 2008 Final though. 🤦🏻♂️😣
@@johnreeveswilliamson7228 you're so right......there was no rioting at the 2007 Final so of course Rangers couldn't have been there.
My apologies,it was 2008 that your fans ran amok again.
@@MrBagpipes brilliant apology!
The good ol days :-D
Bad old days.!
Which shirts were Celtic in again? I didn't quite catch what he said.
Hooped, apparently... on that day, anyway.
Fenians/Huns/Tims/Protestants/Catholics..great to know that in 300 years they will STILL be at each others throats.
Thank The Dear Lord they are not polluting The English League..
Can you positively imagine?:)
Felicitations from The MILLWALL Terraces.
11 years on and my comment is still as valid today though David as it will be in 300 years' time. lol
See you in another 11 years in 2031 M8.....:)
Some day this I was -13 when this happened, mon the hoops 😍
How was it?
You were -13? That's some clever...
Watched the match with my dad then the scum didn’t like the result 1:0 Celtic worthy winners again
Back in the day, Celtic wore their numbers on their shorts, and most probably due to black and white TV.
By 1980, however, most people in the West had color TV, and at that point, Celtic were a bit of a curiosity.
Remember, Celtic have an unusual shirt.
😂
Note the anti Celtic propaganda at 6:36 onwards from ITV / STV , where the camera is on loads of Celtic fans jumping up and down in party mode and joy at their team winning, while the biased commentator says ''look at these angry scenes on the terraces''
Wow, was it really hard for him to report what the cameras were actually showing. ''That Celtic fans were rightly celebrating with happiness and joy their team winning and that Rangers fans then rioted onto th pitch with rage, anger and jealousy as they were clearly bad losers , and hence the Rangers fans started the riot by attacking Celtic fans, to which Celtic fans responded back by trying to chase the Rangers fans back to their end. ''
What do expect off a hun commentator Alex Cameron on stv and another hun bbc scotland archie mcpherson them Mason coppers wernt hitting the huns with batons and they started all the trouble
LOL...looks like a bay city rollers concert :)
th emedia are not without blame either, i think you are bang on, the months and years to come would bear that out, the scottish cup final is a non old firm affair and i would argue its the most anticipated final, for football fans, in decades - perhaps since our teams met in 86(just b4 the rainjurz revulyooshin)
the bonus is, with the death of rangers, the sectarian aspect of our game is cut by 75%
i think across the scottish forums people agree, rangers stay in the spl, spl lose attendances
we won the match and the riot! whata beautiful day
this was like going back to the roman times
hmmmmmmmmmmmm see you soon.hows the weather down there ??
funny ...did you notice the police troting there way through the huns and charging the celtic fans...ah the good old days when it was celtic that got picked on
No surprise there the police are all free masons the huns start the trouble and it's the celtic fans that are getting wacked with batons a shower off shite
i remember this match. my grandfather bought me a tickect for my 60th birthday
So, your grandfather was still around when you were 60? So you're, what, 100 this year?
@@channelbizt Aye, I'm his grandaddy laddy. Nuff of your guff as we used to say in the 1850s
I watched this on telly aged as an 11 year old Gers fan and have waited 29 years to see some good old fashioned argy bargy. Now Rangers and most of their fans disgust me and I love to see them get a spanking from any team.
it's not unusual back then for fans to enter the pich after a trophy win.... but why if you lose? is the ban still on?
@Spentastic they have them on the shorts
it would be cool too see this again
Cool to see football at its worst, aye
Great stuff!!
well done celtic from liverpool fc ynwa .
I remember how drab the game was, but the post-match entertainment more than made up for it.
No need for Rangers fans to be hanging about after getting beat but thats what they do, worst fans in British football by a mile.
How long did he get for that ?
It's nice to see everyone has moved on since then lol. It's meant to be football not a place for idiotic violence
Fantastic memories
If you're Glasglow police with the Rangers your happy for now. With hte liquidation there won't be any Old Firm matches against each other for a while so the number of violent incidents will go down. Still it was a good 3 1/2 minutes before the mounted police came on. I mean this on top of the Bradford City fires, Heysel incident, and the Hillsborough disaster was a very dark time in football in the 1980's.
That looked like surrender to me, run forrest run, TAL
This almost makes a good case for having any Old Firm cup final be at Ibrox or Parkhead, randomly drawn. Here the supporters are at equal strength and there is going to be a legitimate fight between two equal forces - at one of the clubs' stadia there would be an advantage and fights like this would be avoided.
Aye! because fans charged up like this in the wrang side a toun after a game finishing like that would be well better. Newsflash! They sorted a vast amount of it, was called a nae alcohol ban 😒😂😂 lol
this was at hampden
The numbers might be equal but the forces aren’t equal. Most Rangers fans had left the ground by this point and still ran them all over the park outnumbered 5 to 1. Was the same afterwards outside and it’s the same whenever they try to put a mob together nowadays. It’s embarrassing really.
Well done Celtic I'm a fan of Rangers it only happened after Rangers signed MAURICE JOHNSTONE
But was it REALLY a throw in ( Snickers ad )
ill bat that back to you with a fair point retort, you are right, 1980 scottish cup final - the aftermath could only have happend with the ulgy sisters (mind you this years one might produce similar if the result goes against the hobos)
let me ask fairly - are rangers really needed? i dont think they are, interested in a sheep viewpoint
FAO tonymajjc! Is irony lost on you mate? ;-)
Interesting to note how at no time did the police charge into the Rangers support. Oh how the worm has turned. Now HMRC are chasing Rangers. :)
believe me, we are too
Class xx my grandad was there
So was my da and my grandad, they were Rangers fans but they swifly left, like lets get out of here. Total arseholes on the pitch, no sound person would stay. Lol
No numbers on the Celtic jerseys?
Aye! Was a tradition until it was wasted in the mid 90's. Celtic always used to have their numbers on their shorts.
Feed it to Bobby !
He needs it more than me ... LOL

Why aren't the Celtic players wearing numbers on their shirts?
reminds me of the 55 league title wins by rangers, and number 55 title was by over 100 points.
celtic lost their ten in a row and their ginger manager was fired.
Ah yes, when the rangers fans celebrated their first significant trophy/title by urinating and vomiting on all the statues in George square, fighting pitched battles with one another, throwing bottles and missiles at the police and generally creating mayhem in the centre of Glasgow in the middle of a pandemic.
Reminded me of their fans appearance on special edition of crime watch which was completely dedicated to the Manchester riots after ‘Rangers’ had lost to зенит санкт-петербург.

yes, im a celtic fan and im irish and a catholic too but that has nothing to do with football, i could easily be a rangers fan i have friends that are irish catholics and rangers fans who share the same political views as me, they are unrelated and i think that football and all sports should be a place where it is free from this, where people of different religions
The riot was far more entertaining than the game
My dad and grandad didnae thinkso, even though the game wisnae great, the riot was worse. They swiftly left. 😂
What does that say for Scotland?
Its doesn't say anything about Scotland other than it had arseholes like every other place. 👍
This is why we need a big fence, you are still evolving up there
What's the fence gonna do? More English wanna come up here... and we're quiet happy staying put. You are a thicko.
donald trump tried a bigger fence, never worked....
notice how the police only hit the Celtic fans...
Much as I can be biased towards Celtic, you know if there was no Old Firm, think of the talent that would increase the weight of Hearts, Hibs, Dundee Utd, Aberdeen, Kilmarnock, Livingston, St Mirren, Dunfermline, Inverness. It would be more democratic. It's been laughable for 20 years now.
The commentator really seemed to be getting carried away with commentating with the riot...and here they come...lol
So did Archie McPherson on the other side, when it came to philosiphing about morality and dubbed it Apocalypse Now. These days Archie tries to morally grandstand as an anti-Indy campaigner, frankly doesnae stand up. How does the moral grandstanding stack up now Archie? Eh? I think its total shite that when the "cavalry" arrived they did nothing to rangers fans but when celtic fans are on the charge then they start clubbing everyone in sight.
