I had an active case of Buerger’s Disease years 40+ years ago, when I smoked, and almost had to have my leg amputated. I went to my doctor complaining of leg cramps, but I was so young and healthy he did not diagnose it for 2 years until things got really bad. A sympathectomy saved my leg (operation which helped restore steady blood flow to my leg). Needless to say I quit smoking. Oh, and I’m a woman 👩 . This is a SMOKER’s disease. A skirt will not protect you.
@@michelenichele294 I've also had the disease for almost two years, I developed it at 26 and I don't smoke too, but I'm scared. That's why I asked. I'm doing research on the disease. doctors here in Brazil only speak the BASIC, they don't explain much. sorry for the inconvenience. how old are you with this disease
@@thaisdantas3177 you have this disease from the day are born until you die. It’s in your genes! The minute you smoke, it destroys your blood vessels. A SYMPATHECTOMY restored the blood flow in my leg and saved it. My feet and hands hurt too, but I did lots of walking and exercises . Now I’m 100 percent. Find another doctor,if necessary, who list to.-
@@michelenichele294 but my question is not that difficult to answer. HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOUR ARTERIES CLOGGED? OR IS IT WHEN YOU HAD THE DISEASE CRISIS!?
This was amazing! I saw a patient with this diagnosis recently, so this was a helpful video to get a refresher on the condition! Thanks for the great work!
I know someone who had only smoked only 2 years and almost died from this disease. He stopped smoking once the specialist told him it was causing his lack of bloodflow to his legs (he could no longer walk), he quit smoking immediately. Complete turnaround within a month. But, 50 years later, still has vein issues on his legs.
Based on my lecture note, buerger’s disease is categorised under small vessel vasculitis 🤔 but in your video you mention that it is medium vessel. Please someone clarify it for me 🤗

how old were you when you had the disease and how old are you? Did you have an amputation, did you feel pain? How is your life with the disease?
