I love this era of mma.
Why?
It was more gritty, more unrefined. Now it feels like it’s so perfected, everyone is good everywhere whereas during this era you saw people with a less diverse skillset, which I think led to more brawls and wars. Also the fighters themselves were such characters back then, I enjoy their personalities much more than the fighters of today. Don’t get me wrong, I still watch almost every UFC event and I love mma regardless of the era, but man the 2000s were just incredible, especially PRIDE.
@seethemore6360 Pride was just so different, every event was a spectacle. Ufc would benefit from doing tournaments imo
@@docholiday2875 tournaments were a great idea. I'd also like to see some openweight events, and even the introduction of a division with no testing (I'm not kidding).
Fedor, rampage, crocop, wanderlei, nogueira... those were the days
That Elbow to the ribs was wild rampage was a bad man
Rampage made Chuck look weak. It was crazy because Chuck was one of the baddest dudes at the time.
Rampage was incredible him and hendo my fave all time fighters always entertaining.
That really showed how Pride FC was light years ahead of UFC. Dana and thr Fertita brothers were so blinded by their egos they didn't see it. And instead of competing side by side, they bought out Pride and disbanded it
@BrownBomber92181 I think they saw it, and that's exactly why they bought it out. Competing side by side while good for the sport, why on earth would ufc allow a competition when they could have a monopoly.
@Don-rl1sm He was a fan friendly fighter. A great bar room brawler but your right in as much as he didn’t have the fight I Q of a Randy. He wanted to move up to heavyweight and Dana wouldn’t allow him to cos he knew with his fight style he would’ve lost his cash cow instantly
@@BrownBomber92181 That's what happened? I seriously didn't know. Pride was the stuff! The fights were far more entertaining than UFC back then. UFC was mostly two guys crawling all over each other for most of the fights while commentators went into ecstasy while worshipping BJJ with seemingly neverending praises...until Chuck Liddel. Pride's fighers were practically superheroes with clearly different styles of striking and grappling. Fedor, Mirko, GoodridgeVanderlai, Rampage, the Predator, Charles Bennet was hilarious. There were even fun to watch losers like Bob Sapp, Butterbean, Yarborough. All UFC had back then was Liddel, and Ortiz.
That was the right hand that put him out years later.. not sure what year this fight was, but I watched the PPV when Rampage starched Liddell and everyone thought Chuck was gonna get him. Good times man.
I believe it was 2003, early days of Zuffa owned UFC. I remember Dana was borderline cocky going into this tournament saying that Chuck will dominate it and UFC is the best fight league. But at the time Pride FC was light years ahead of the UFC. Many mma fans are still pissed that UFC bought out Pride and disbanded it
Rampage had good boxing defence.
Great counter puncher but he never worked behind a jab. He'd get much more KO's if he did...
@@shawna7813 you're actually correct.
@@shawna7813facts that was one of his biggest flaws.
These were the days.
Rampage beats Chuck, Chuck beats Wanderlei, and Wanderlei beats Rampage during their primes. Style makes fights.
That's not the right order.
UFC Wanderlei was not Prime Wanderlei btw. He was coming off two losses in Pride(two brutal knockouts, one against Cro-cop and another against Hendo) when he signed with the UFC.
You know your UFC.
Those were the days.
Chuck beat Wanderlei but Wanderlei Knocked down Chuck in that fight, and Wanderlei destroyed Rampage twice......so the winner of the trio is Wanderlei imo
Rampage taught me my fighting style, love the guy, one of my favorite fighters, his style of defense works really well for me
Those knees and that upper cut made ultimate damage
Damn Rampage was fast in his prime.
Chuck should have retired after this. Past his prime.
@@acornsucks2111wtf no lmao this IS Chuck Liddell’s prime.
dana’s receding hairline is a cursed image
All those nasty belts to the face no blood amazing. Rampage and Chuck sit down and reminisce on JAAxxon podcasts great channel.
Aug 2024 this is still a great fight to watch true legends 💯
I loved Liddel but Rampage always had Chuck's number.
Liddell had more power, but rampage did just about everything else better.
Skill is more important than power.
@@tjs-_goated7449 I wouldn’t call that a whoopin. Rampage could barely breathe. Go back and watch when he puts his chain back on. Dude is suckin wind bad.
@@Bob-zh7lrbro calm down he just said skill is more important than power 💀
Debatable.
@@NathanSmith-t2h proof is in the pudding. They met more than once.
Gran pelea.
However, if you sleep with the Yakuza, your gonna wake up one day with more than a finger missing 😬
It kills me every time i watch this fight. Just like Dana was saying here. Chuck was a kickboxer, never wanted to mix his punches with kicks, that was actually his biggest problem. If he threw kicks more, he would've throw Rampage out of his game and win, not by stoppage, but decision. Rampage always had trouble with guys who threw kicks.
Rampage will always be my favorite fightet
them fellas respected each other, it was all for the fans
Rampage Stance was legit!
Dana used to commentate?
Yeah, isn't that strange? I didn't know that and for Pride too.
Just for his UFC fighter he brought over.
And his fighter got smoked...twice.
@@tomselleck5560only once pencil neck. This was his only loss in pride
actually he smoke allistar overeem then had to face rampage lmao@@tomselleck5560
Rampage wasn't afraid of Chuck
IIRC Dana sent Chuck to PRIDE's tournament thinking Chuck would walk through everybody and discredit their organization. Dana didn't count on the different rules, the massive amount of steroids, and Rampage, with his iron chin, dynamite hands and massive power in the clinch, being a nightmare matchup for Chuck.
Roids were equal in the UFC.
@@ElephantRage The UFC has been testing for anabolic steroids since at least 2002 (Josh Barnett failed). PRIDE didn't test at all.
Think you're right. Both had dynamite hands, just freakish power, but their chins weren't equal. Rampage had a better chin than Chuck...
@@EGarrett01, and smh they had Overeem and Lesnar looking like prime Ronnie Coleman vs Jay Cutler at Mr. Olympia.
@@coderlol3213 Beating a test > Having no test whatsoever. And they did eventually tighten it to the point that guys had to get off it.
That era was unreal those fuckin guys were nails
This was when UFC was not the best fighting organization, now they are which is ok,smart business moves for sure gotta respect Dana and the fertitta bros fasho, zuffa
He won two out of three in pride
Rampage crushed him and Dana cried the whole time. Rampage was a killer in his prime
Бзрнет вроде бы после этого боя он снялся в один из моих любимых фильмов "Команда А" 😂 ❤
Rampage had his number
The right hand of God!
Style make fights as they say
Thank you!! People don't get it
This was like a 25 minute fight
I’m surprised Dana isn’t talking about how Jon jones is pound for pound the greatest ever on the commentary
the last time dana tried to prove the bullshit he spins. dana is always like "oh the ufc guys are the best" but history tells another story. just look at mightymouse and eddie alvares. mightymouse improved alot and came back but he clearly discovered another level in his debut at one championship(he won the fight but it was nowhere near as easy as most of his titledefences in the ufc)
척리델과 램패이지잭슨 그리고 실바
때문에 종합격투기 입문 했던 기억이 나네요!
Dana reportedly lost a huge amount of money betting on Liddell to win the tournament. Ell oh ell!
4:10 *YOUNG Dana White!!!*
I think Chuck might have been afraid of rampage. If you watch he really isn’t trying to win. Rampage was clearly trying to win. I’m not sure if I saw Chuck land one solid shot and that whole fight, and we all know he could have.
Chuck looked so tired right from the beginning. Odd
He whipped his ass😂
He did? 😂😂 You call that a whoopin? You can’t fight. Rampage could barely breathe. Different story if chucks corner didn’t throw in the towel.
@@Bob-zh7lrrampage is 2-0 against Chuck . He whooped him .
@@JavierNYC423 That first fight is no whoopin. Rampage couldn’t even breathe at the end! 🤣🤣 And Rampage is 0-2 vs prime Wanderlai. Now those were whoopins right there.
@@Bob-zh7lr If Rampage couldn't breathe, Liddell was already dead the, lol. He couldn't even defense himself from the punches while on the ground.
@@viniciusr7599 He couldn’t even defenses? Wtf is wrong with you? Can’t you spell monkey boy? My favorite two videos are Rampage getting destroyed by Wanderlai!!! Now those are whoopins!!! 😂😂😂 Learn to spell son.
Dana hasn't aged well...
Back when both had 35" waists.
Chuck was so out of shape going into this event and it shows he gassed out so fast.
He was actually in very good shape.
@@johnsambo9379 no he wasn't. His conversation with John Lewis after the the fight highlights that.
Didn’t he have an injury to the leg. That’s why the towel was thrown in if memory serves me correctly
@@LostandtobefoundIt was thrown in because he was getting his ass beat
@@cowboysvstheworld3879 He was in great shape. This was a tournament he had already fought that same night.
Chuck never was known for good cardio.
This era of ufc had some badass fights
lol
lol Sooo who’s gonna tell him
@@user-xo4om8qv6m "...this [*error] of ufc..."
This fight took place in Pride, not the UFC.
@@jaymurr6788 how dare you! i am so offended. Kamala 2024!!!
Rampage was just better then Liddell
Kkk dos mostros
Rampage had way easier fights than chuck
Wtf are you talking about? No he didnt lol and Rampage beat Chuck's ass both times they fought, so I dont see how that is even relevant
Pride fighters were better. They were mostly past their prime when they went to the UFC. They all had classic fights in their past.
Chuck had an iron chin
And rampage became an ironsmith that night, truly an epic fight it was
Rampage did as well
Not today chuck.
Funny to see dana 😂😂😂
Le ganó a Liddell en su prime
Show the whole fight or please quit with this crap!!
More vicious fighters. I
Qq
Why did you have to put the chimp noise in here?
