We have found that almost every city we have been to on this trip has been amazing! We are also aware that no matter where you go there are going to be parts of every place you visit that you should stay away from!
I lived in Chicago for five years with my kids, who were littles, but now adults. This made me, "Happy mom cry." Thank you. Two weeks ago, RUclips time, you passed my house, and now my old office. How cool!
My friend. I just want to say that your videos are getting better and better as time passes by. You keep up your great work with your beautiful family! This is what America should be about. You folks are exceptional.
Thanks so much for your kind words! They really mean a lot to us! Kevin spends a lot of time learning new filming/editing techniques so that the videos are always evolving! It's nice to hear when others notice his hard work!
I drive a 2013 Ford Expedition, I know the pain of not belonging in parking garages. Honestly, having the backup camera helps, which I didn't have on my F150.
@@PavingNewPaths Well and they don't make parking spots wide enough for the more girthy of vehicles, I am sure the dually is even wider than my Expy. At work, I park drivers door against a curb and hub it more to make sure people don't block my wide opening door.
Uber and Lyft are the only ways I do “city” when we have the truck. It’s even great for places like st Augustine. Park on the cheaper roomier outskirts and get a ride into the narrow streets downtown.
We have always parked the truck close by using the hotel valet, usually way cheaper than paying a 12 or 24 hour parking lot rate! Then we use the tourist attractions to get our ride around town like the hop on hop off tour rides, and the water taxis!
@@PavingNewPaths Never thought about the Valet, usually if you park outside city center the parking costs including lyft costs are less which is why we used that method.
@@jamesbitb We didn't either but our friend Marci suggested it for our New York trip and it worked really well! I Spent $38 for 12 hours of parking a dually in downtown town chicago!
Should have tried the sears building or maybe they do not still do the view. We went there a few years back and sears was shutdown for going to the top, we stopped at Trump hotel and they let us go up to a floor that had a big balcony area no charge. It was Sunday and we all had on Sunday clothes so that may have helped. For bigger truck parking go to the underground level there is usually a place to park and often no charge if you ask. There is a level below the roads you where on and you can get around to many places easier. I know you did not have a hotel but I always ask the hotel we stayed at if the hotel bus ran until later so I knew when we where done the hotel would pick us up and take us back to the hotel. Did you guys get to any of the museums? Sue the TRex was there for a while. I drove a full size van with ladder racks in Chicago for a few years and learned places to park from the guys that worked there all the time. When I was younger I worked with a guy that spent a lot of time in the tunnels under the city and he saw Al Capone go through riding on a 3 wheeled bike, some one else peddling. Chicago is fun as long as no one shoots at you. In the 1990s the hotel area and bar area had a police officer or two on every street corner on weekends.
We had a great time in Chicago! We didn't do the sears tower because of where it wad on the bus stop tours! Ig we would have done that we never would have made it very far around the city before the buses stopped running!
Glad you had pizza. I learned that Chicago is known for hotdogs....and in spite of many trips I had never seen a river.....who knew! Great video as always. Just know that a 450 would have sat up higher and not cleared lol
It was a great city to visit! We had plans to either do the riverboat tour in Boston or Chicago when we made our plans for this year! The Hop on Hop Off tours are the only way to see a city!
We appreciate you watching and are glad to hear you enjoyed the video! It does seem a little wrong eating a hotdog without our usual condiments! And the pizza was fantastic!
Hey Kevin, that’s my hometown. We’re in Pigeon Forge, stop #11 of our 6 week Big Fall RV Trip. 2 more stops. Both in Virginia. We get Lou's Pizza frozen shipped. They are really good. We usually order 7 at a time. Actually we take them with us on trips. I have one in the freezer here in Pigeon Forge. We ate one in St. Louis. Easy to cook in a convection microwave
I was hoping to see the chocolate cake and/or shake with a whole slice of said cake in it from Portillo’s lol. BTW, Married with children was one of my favorite TV shows.
Thanks for sharing your adventure today from Chicago!! I've taken a bus tour back in 69, haven't made it out there since!! I really enjoyed the video!!

If you take the train it is easy and double check if you get a hotel that they will take you places and pick you up late in the day. Many will run to Navy Pier and the Museums no charge.
Great parking. Did you see the video of three cars parked virtually bumper to bumper and the middle car got out in about the same amount of tries. It’s pretty incredible. You really need to explore outside of Chicago. There are several Franklin wright homes
I was born in Chicago and my parents moved us South when I was 12. My siblings and I wouldn’t change growing up in Chicago in the 70’s for all the tea in China. Glad you guys were able to tour a tiny portion of my hometown.
Glad I saw it through you folks because I wouldn't say I like cities I won't go I live 30 miles from Boston and haven't been there in at least 15 years. PS modern trucks for old school garages a no non
It's huge. I had no idea. Thanks cuz I've always wanted to go to Chicago. 👍 Me too man. That would be me looking up & getting nothing but building.oh shit! Wow, yeah I loved that show. That's a cool feeling seeing the fountain right there in front of u. ...yeah pretty much, u know the transit ur good. Lol. Thanks I had an awesome time watching u guys.
thanks for another great video!! i'm going to have to research chicago hot dogs. i've never seen a hot dog served in such a way that you can't even see the hot dog 😂! that deep dish pizza looked wonderful!!! how tall is your truck? i don't know if i would've had the courage to drive with a ceiling that low! thanks again!!!
Chicago was awsome and so we're the hotdogs! My truck was fine until we got on the lower level and the sprinkler pipes were about 2 inches above the trucks cab!
It does not! We tried that in D.C. and using the subway and buses in places like New York and Chicago is not something you should try if you are not from there! Hotels have been an amazing way to park and besides this city they usually leave it parked out front and it is cheaper than parking garage rates!
It was the big bus tours app! Check with the city as there are usually several companies that do it! Just pick the one that has the best route! Super easy way to explore the city, especially with kids!
@PavingNewPaths thanks so much! Our trip will begin from TN up through Chicago to Wisconsin and then west. We plan to stop at everything we can from SD to Seattle. Then south to San Fran and heading back east to see everything between there and TN. I'm going through all of your west videos now.
You can use commuter parking so you do not have to go into Chicago with that monstrosity. Just park outside the city for $11 per day, and fare is something like $5 per person for all day. And Chicago public transportation is crazy efficient and expansive. For getting around downtown I used to have a bicycle or eBike/eScooter but now use an electric unicycle as they are tiny.
We learned in DC that we do better taking the truck downtown and parking at a hotel! Using the public buses and subways is very difficult with 3 kids, even harder when we as parents are trying to navigate the public Transportaion system for the first time with kids!
@@PavingNewPaths I also own an Urban Arrow, so three kids (2 not mine) has never been a problem. And the average speed is surprisingly relentless; you can bomb from Chinatown to Uptown in 30 minutes, faster than almost anything else. Urban Arrows do require great skill to ride at low speeds, though.
