Too cool. Those were really something. Took some nerve to race them too, the engines really overpowered the rubber.
I was passed by a Brabus Smart Car a while back that was going 90mph. I just looked up the specs: 1.0L engine, 70hp, 41mpg. The contrast between 12, 16 and 24 cylinder airplane engines thunderously spitting flames out of straight exhaust pipes and the efficient little Brabus is enlightening.

I know the guy who built and owns the Handlye Special. My friend bought his 'spare' engine to build his own Meteor engined car based around a 25/30 Rolls Royce chassis.

the car on !:00 in the video is not old, its called "brutus" build in Speyer, Germany i think around 2008
The Engine is old and the concept as well, also the frame, so it is not entirely wrong to say it is an old car even if it is build in this century.
I believe it was originally conceived in the late 40s early 50s, but was either sold off or abandoned, then finished in 2008 but not 100%

Brutal as they look and noisy as they are, in truth most modern hatch backs would out pace and certainly out perform them.
A base Corolla is faster and handles 10x better, but that isn't really the point is it? They didn't have Corollas back in 1910-1920, and if they did they would probably have been a shopping cart with a motorcycle motor or something

There is a sort of differential in there somewhere but the tension on the chains provides part of the differential action, its why they're slightly slacked, compared to a bike or motorbike.
