    The Falcons stuff is all a huge over reaction. It’s a conservative choice, and maybe not a super smart one,but not completely unfathomable.
    So many teams needed two or more good QBs last year, Cousins is a vet recovering from an injury that often has long term impact, they might lose a future pick for tampering, and they’ve struggled to replace top line QBs before.
    So they reduce their chances of success this year (but were they going to be contenders anyway?) to bet on wrapping up a position for the next decade.
    Would I have done it? Probably not (esp given Penix’s age) but I can see why someone might want to

    • @dl_0002
      @dl_0002 4 месяца назад

      Yes, it's been so overblown. You might not agree with the strategy, but it's not the worst pick. I guarantee there will be top-10 picks that do not pan out as well as the Penix pick.

  • @ktown-chef

    If I am an Atlanta Falcons fan and Cousins throws 3 picks in week 4 I'm smart enough to understand that he is the clear starter and has thrown nearly 300 TD's in his career. Despite being new in the city has equity has a very productive starting QB in the NFL. This idea that fans would be calling for Penix I think is insane.

      I find it weird that sports talkers think NFL teams should take “the fans” and their opinions into consideration where the starting QB is concerned. I would HOPE such fickle and short term thinking would not influence management. But then again, these same sports yakkers don’t understand why a team would draft a highly skilled QB to back up a 36 y.o. vet QB who is coming off a season ending injury and surgery.

    The year 3 you have to make a decision is so stupid. You have 4 years guaranteed and a fifth option plus franchise tag. It is just dumb management over paying QBs

    • @MarcusJohnson-d8c
      @MarcusJohnson-d8c 4 месяца назад

      It's not overpaying if you have the money to spend. As a Falcons fan I'd rather see them have 2 quality QBs as opposed to the mediocrity that I've had to watch the last 2 years. Penix will get on the field when he's supposed to

  • @Richard-mq7wf
    @Richard-mq7wf 4 месяца назад +1

    There's no justifying this move by Atlanta. They invested WAY too much cap and draft capital into one position. Now you still have holes in your team that could have been filled with that #8 pick(or multiple pix having traded down). You either get Cousins and build around him in the draft OR you get Penix and use the cap space(saved by not acquiring Cousins) for other players on your team. On top of all that, you've fractured team chemistry by not being truthful with your starting qb.

  • @cindyfagerstrom8825
    @cindyfagerstrom8825 4 месяца назад

    I'm not 100% taking for granted Cousins will be as good as before, maybe @ 1 pm. They had to have a QB and signed Cousins. Then acquired Pennix when they didn't have to draft one. He can learn behind a real pro and play as needed. Good luck to both.

  • @andriylakusta
    @andriylakusta 4 месяца назад +6

    Cousins has always just chased the money. Not feeling sorry for him that the Falcons drafted a QB to groom. Heck, Cousins, although can put up some stats during the regular season, has done jack come playoffs, wouldn't want him on my team. Oh and Dallas, does Cousins remind you of anyone? Last name starts with a "D"? Good luck with that.

    • @jbhatts610
      @jbhatts610 4 месяца назад +2

      Uhhhh no- think you’ve got your facts mixed up. Washington drafted him in 4th round, when they already drafted a qb 2nd overall (that’s an unwritten rule and total screwing). Earned starting job, played the entire rookie contract which was crap money. Washington had every chance to sign him to a contract he deserved after playing rookie contract, then tagging him! Cousins didn’t chase money, he took less, bet on himself and took less years for guaranteed money. Frankly, if anything, he got screwed as a free agent signing, then team drafting a qb in first round! At least he gets 100 million.

    • @kellmerWF52

    • @jbhatts610
      @jbhatts610 4 месяца назад

      @@kellmerWF52not only is that incorrect, the original post claims cousins “chased” money. He’s never been the highest paid, he’s taken less money and less years for guarantees. Your 400 million is just false. He made 180 mil in 6 years with the Vikings, 100 million guaranteed with the falcons, and whatever he made with Washington (maybe 30 million for 5 years?)

    I’m sorry but I’m done with the media tryna spin the falcons pick. They signed cousins to get them outta the qb hell they were in, you take the 8th pick and take someone who can help now. Not waste it on a qb that will not play, and if Kirk works Penix won’t play til he’s 27/28. If Kirk fails you eat a ton of dead cap and limit building around Penix

    I've been hearing too much Amon-Ra shade. Maybe ppl are still sleeping on him. Check last year's stats; he was literally a top 2-3 receiver. More production than Jefferson, Chase, and every other receiver not named Hill or Lamb. Don't get me wrong, J.J. is phenomenal, but Amon-Ra is right up there with the best.

    I’m getting fed up with the whole QB on a rookie deal obsession.
    Only ONE QB since Russ as a Seahawk in 2013 has won a SB on a rookie contract: Mahomes. Who will probably go down as the best QB next to Tom Brady ever.
    A few teams have made Super Bowls with QB on rookie deals (49ers, Eagles, Rams) over these years, but ultimately got bested by a better QB.
    The goal shouldn’t be take advantage of a QB on his rookie contract, the goal should be get the best QB possible for your franchise. And the more options you have, the better your chances are. That’s why I love the Falcons decision to take Penix.

That way other teams that think about doing this next year will be scared to keep ideas that aren't like ours to themselves.

    Re Deflate-Gate. Whether anyone considers it irrelevant - and science has shown it doesn’t make that big of a difference - the fact that Brady knowingly broke the rules, with intent, means that *HE* believed it helped. Knowingly breaking the law/rules is wrong, regardless of whether you benefit from it.

    Jesus Christ is the King of Glory! Our living hope. Our only hope. No religion needed. Just faith, faith plus nothing. Don't put your trust in man. "In God we trust"
    We are in the last days. Evil/sin is running rampant. We are not sinners because we sin, we sin because we are sinners. Man is the most destructive creature on the planet.
    God/Jesus Christ/Holy Spirit offers us the free gift of God - eternal life - to know him. Believe (have faith) and be saved today. Chaos is right around the corner. Trust in Christ alone the only hope of salvation. The only name by which a man shall be saved.
