The end of September has less tourists, and leaves the area unspoilt. We’re in Taormina right now, which is jaw droppingly beautiful, but from 11 am til 4pm the amount of tourists pack the place out. I agree, that in these small towns though, it’s restaurant after restaurant of the same menu.. we’re almost 10 days in, and i don’t know what food im craving, but it’s definitely something different (which isn’t available). Sounds like you're having an incredible time Belinda 🤙 We may have been there at the same time who knows. We also saw a wedding. Sicily is amazing but we are curious... Why not call it Italy? It is Italy after all. We'd genuinely like to know what you mean as to us it's like saying don't call the 'Maritimes' (in Canada) ... Canada - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers it’s complicated. It’s an identity factor stemming largely from history and from insularity. In Sicily we have the blood of multiple, diverse, peoples: Sicels, Sicani, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Arabic, Suevian, Norman, French, Spanish and, lastly, Italian. The island is the largest region in Italy and is deeply layered culturally and artistically (take the Arab-Norman style in architecture: it is something you can’t find anywhere else in Italy; or the differences between Eastern and Western Sicily, even artistically: hard to believe that Ragusa and Trapani belong to the same region) and, as a consequence, at an identity level. We are talking about millennia of history, peoples, and influences (even Sicilian literature has so much to say about “Sicilianity”, especially Sicilian literature of 1900s) and that involves everything that happened before and after Italian Unity in 1861. Therefore, obviously, you can’t make a comparison with the Maritimes islands in Canada. I myself was born and raised in Sicily and I perceive myself as Italian, of course, but first and foremost I’m Sicilian.
What a cool little town. The place you are staying at definitely has a lot of character! I really need to plan a trip to the Mediterranean soon. I’ve never been.
I am at the part where you are having a Limoncello Spritz and I wanted to recommed you to try next time a Hugo Spritz ( Prosecco,St Germain which is an elderflower spirit, sparkling water and mint leaves) so refreshing.Or,if you have graduated from Aperol Spritz, try Campari Spritz which is more bitter and has more character
Outside of North America, small cities are a better choice to live in than suburbia. They’re quiet, with lots of character, and usually just 1hr away from a big city, in this case, Palermo. Just occurred to me that you’re used to living in downtown Halifax = a different vibe, I agree
Hey guys, I was watching all that is happening at Cape Breton, and all Nova Scottia due to Fiona.... warm hugs and hope your friends and family are doing well.😘
I wasn't going to add comments until I saw what looks like a Haitian painting in your airbnb? It's at about 9:46 ! Being half-haitian, I grew up around lots of artifacts and paintings from there and I can spot them anywhere! Lol
My goodness I have never seen Cefslu 😍 my parents are from Calabria and I’ve been there but not to Cefalu. It looks absolutely breathtaking and magical. I need to go there 😍
The places you’ve travelled in Italy thus far have been captivating in their beauty BUT the dusky evening sunset showcasing ‘cotton candy’ clouds in this video was absolutely ethereal - beyond beautiful ✨!
I really enjoyed this video, thank you 👍. Cefalù is beautiful, you gave me a chance of "visiting" it, as although I'm from Sicily I've never been there. Cefalù would be a good place where to live, IMO another one would be Portopalo in the province of Siracusa. Not to worry, from September all of Italians return to their jobs and normal activities resume and everything is back to normal. August is the month when tourists can have the cities all for themselves because everything is closed and the locals go to the beaches or the mountains, therefore you chose a good month for being in Palermo. I hope Catania hasn't been too busy, as it can be as busy as Palermo. Plus, at minute 8:00 of the you were close to the Alleway of Anna's Brothers (Vicolo Fratelli D'Anna) 😀 Obviously, in this case D'Anna is a surname, but it means that (of Anna). Looking forward to the next video.
If come to Del Mar in San Diego North County, California, for the Labor Day Weekend you'll find it as crowded as Cefalú, believe me. Almost no sand to put you umbrella.
We have just arrived for a month stay in Termini Imerese and look forward to a visit to Cefalu. Sicilian people are definitely friendlier and appear much happier than what we’ve experienced the last couple months in Calabria. And we understand the need for some different food other than “Italian” and had some amazing Sushi today. That being said we are excited about trying all the local dishes Sicily has to offer.
The beautiful old town and harbour area of Cefalu is the top romantic highlight of this Sicilian location. From little cafes, shops and restaurants - you could spend your whole day here exploring and relaxing. In the summer months it's pretty touristic, but find a spot at a local bar and take it all in.
Late to the party guys I was traveling! YES, as you were walking the streets/alleyways I thought Chania! Just beautiful guys, I could see us staying a month here, but not in August. Another great video thank you for taking us along! ~Cara 💖

Of course the beaches will be packed in August. Europe is very densely populated. Just in Italy alone there is nearly twice the population of the whole of Canada. So there is less space. Also, dont forget if you are there in August you are also part of that crowd 😅. Loving all your videos and travelling with you
I'm enjoying this Italian trip; looking forward to more. It must be hard for towns like that to find the area to work on underground sewer, water and wiring pipes though. Notice there is not a wire in sight.
@@DelightfulTravellers I hope people in those areas have better discipline than North Americans because we're not supposed to flush baby wipes either but they keep clogging our sewer systems. I don't know they let them on the market. Some municipalities have sued the makers of them
What a charming town! Yes, it definitely has the Italy vibes. I do wonder how those beaches would look when empty. Would be so nice! Lack of food options may be a factor on my decision to stay for an extended time though. I love Italian food but if one sushi joint can be found..that would be a game changer for me!
There are many places selling sushi and other non Italian foods in the Italian big cities. Of course don't expect to find non Italian foods in little town.
In the big cities of Italy, there are restaurants that serve non Italian foods of course - especially Japanese/Chinese food, but also Greek, Mexican, French and so on. Italy is not in the 50s anymore and people, especially youngsters, like to try new foods once in a while.
I totally get that it would be difficult to live or visit for a few months, a place with not your ideal food and that's pretty much all they have. I hate seafood so I might not pick quite a few places to live for a few months. Food for thought.
Just got back today. Great town and beach visually. But water quality... looks fantastic, but walk along the back of the beach and it's rancid, stagnant water and potentially sewage? All those buildings and the ancient sewage system surely means it goes in one direction... down to the sea? The other side of the wall - definitely sewage outlets and what with the tidal range and stillness of the water, yeah I'm not so sure. I did swim in it and and it's lovely and warm, but I'd like to know what they do with the sewage from the town. Other than that a great place.
