Flipper buttons change between options, launch button selects. Pressing both flipper buttons backs out to the prior menu, or back to the main playfield.
Pressing and holding the launch button gets you into your inventory.

As finiky as this looks and as annoying I'm sure it can be I cannot deny an interest in an rpg pinball game.

Having been playing through Skyrim again, I can say that that voice acting is horrible.
