We Found His $400,000 PAVATI Boat 95' UNDERWATER…

  • When Heavy D Sparks called us up over Labor Day Weekend last fall and told us he'd sunk his $400,000 Pavati Wake Boat, we thought we might be falling for one of his pranks like he'd pulled on Logan Paul when Dave and the crew removed Logan's new truck tires putting his new truck up on blocks.
After a bit of begging/convincing for us to believe his story, turns out, that Dave was doing nothing more than enjoying a weekend at the lake with his family when he made a bonehead mistake and sunk his own boat.
Thankfully, his wife and kids were all wearing life jackets at the time and everybody was safe.
Unfortunately, our timing to help Dave didn't work out last fall and the $400,000 Pavati boat sat at the bottom of Lake Powell for nearly 9-months.
With water levels dropping in Lake Powell, the Pavati Wake Boat which was once at 125' deep now sat in JUST 95' of water. 😅😬
    Now listen...
Most boats are a quick 1 lift bag, 1 tank, quick dive, and pop recovery.
Turns out a Pavati Wake Boat is not a cheaply made fiberglass boat.
    OH NO!!!
A Pavati is a specially designed, welded aluminum, lead-infused, luxury wake boat weighing a cool 6500 pounds making it our most insane/intense boat recovery to date.
This is one episode you're not gonna wanna miss as you watch two amazing recovery teams team up to recover HeavyD's $400,000 sunk Pavati boat!
This boat recovery, although difficult and challenging, gave the AWP crew a nice break from the Cold Cases we work. It was great to be out on the water, let loose, and simply enjoy the 2-day recovery with new friends.

His fore arms tingling like that was a sure sign that he was probably Bent from all those dives down to 95'+. Glad the bloke finally got his boat back, although I reckon it would have cost a heap to clean it up, get the electrics and get the engines running again after ingesting all that water.

This was possibly one of the craziest rescues that AWP has pulled off so far! This was indeed a difficult one, risky with both Jared and Doug taking multiple dives at that depth in a single day, and it required extreme amount of skill and caution too, as the rescued boat wasn't heading for a junkyard, like most of the vehicles you rescue. But since the mental burden of solving unsolved human disappearances was not involved, this was insanely fun indeed! You must have got a great well-deserved break with this one!
By the way, thanks again for reminding people about the importance of wearing life jackets. When you folks, who are diving 100 feet just like that, also wear a life jacket when on your boat, it makes a huge demonstration on teh importance of safety!
    Good luck with your mission!

@ 12:00 - having worked for over 40 years on-and-off with two way radio equipment I always have to laugh when I see people like Jared and Doug holding their radios tipped over on their side looking all cool. They may not realize it but when the radio is sideways like that, most of the power of the transmission is blasting straight up to heaven and straight down into the earth. Very little of it is going out to the sides where you want it. The antennas on the top of those radios radiate very little signal vertically off the top tip of the antenna or the base of the antenna, it comes out the sides in a hopefully 360° pattern. When I spent 10 years as the technical service manager of a seven city 911 center, we launched a huge educational campaign to all of the police officers firefighters and paramedics to hold their radios straight up and down when they were talking and listening. We quickly found out that most of the dead spots we thought we had in our coverage pattern were reduced or eliminated when people held the radios correctly LOL. Just a little thought to share with each other and improve security and safety.

Or my old boss that 'hated' long antenna's on his UHF portable. So always had me put on those stubby ones. Then wondered why he couldn't hit the base while I could. (long 'gain' antenna on mine). His work truck had a 1/4 wave on roof - mine a gain antenna. Sure I 'hit' things with it every so often - had to remove it at times to get under low hanging crap. But I always had better range then he did. Then I've a 'radio geek' ran either good Kenwood or Motorola radios instead of his cheap stuff. My house had the UHF back up base. Ran a 'station master antenna' - his base a cheap UHF ringo type. Cannot tell you the number of times I climbed his tower to repair or replace it. Cheaper is not cheap in the long run.

Absolutely correct! If anything is learned from this entire experience it should be recognized that any boat can sink and at any time, and you may not have time to dig under the seats for life jackets you've never put on, and don't know how to secure! WEAR YOUR LIFE JACKET!

I am having a hard time believing after watching a bunch of the videos from this channel that this team is so ill prepared for this dive. No Comms/comm issues, improper dive gear with no dive data? No Idea of where to secure the float bags..as in who doesn't know how boats are laid out with anchor points or why didn't you look at pictures to know that this and most boats have two transom rings and one bow ring. Not knowing the front from rear of a boat? Not sealing your float bag and wasting air...not having enough air to accomplish the mission. Problems with the lift bags/valves? To me this isn't the a Adventures with a Purpose that I have watched 20+ videos of. I mean really? I know this isn't the same type of dive that they normally do, but seems like the 7 p's aren't even in effect. (Proper, Prior, Planning, Prevents, Piss, Poor, Performance.) I am not belittling the mission, but just amazed that I am seeing so much wrong with what should have been a simple dive and hook. But it is what it is I guess and all ended well. I am just perplexed I guess on all that went wrong before anything actually happened and the dive and recovery still went forward all in such a "Blind" manner. Just IMHO.

So, after spending 5 minutes harping on the need for wearing life jackets when boating, not a single person on the recovery boats, other than AWP, bothered to put one on.

    • @tomeauburn

95 isn't bad on air. Add another 10 or 20 ft and maybe a little He might help. It all depends on conditions, water temperatures and how hard your working. I personally like He below 120 but everyone is different. Tried to take photos at 160 in a cave on air once. Had to redo with a mix to get good results. My old school buddy dives air at 160 and remembers everything. But he is definitely an exception. He did quite a bit in Eagles Nest on deep air but did admit he remembers wanting to take a nap. Rebreathers certainly have their place on exploring and deep stuff especially with the current cost of He. But for 100 ft 1.5 to 2.5 hr dives it's hard to beat a set of doubles , stage and some O2 for deco.
