Why didn't use glass instead? It's way better for this application 🙃 specially tempered glass
You can’t get annealed or tempered glass this large, even if I could it would have been double the weight per sq/ft.
@@MattsWoodworks Damn that kinda sucks, glass of that size is readily available in my part of the world, but you certainly did an awesome job with what you had.

Those steel rods transform this from a dramatic piece of art into a sickly industrial afterthought. Mind-boggling design choice.
Can you imagine what it would of looked like with some lights in the base casting shadows into the roots ,but an amazing piece of furniture 👌
That what I was thinking like a thin fiber optic or led medium soft white along the base of root the shadow affect would look awesome.

Great job!! I’ve only been woodworking for 4 years and have a small shop on my property here in Northern California. It’s only 13X13 but I have it full of tools and it’s been great. I’m 65 this week so I figured out a little late in life that I had a passion for woodworking.

I don't hate the rods, but I think redwood branches cut to size would have looked better.

The rods look great. They add order to the chaos, same as having a rectangle top instead of having it shaped all crazy.

Loved how you sanded the end grain to bring out the detail. It would have been amazing if you could have sanded and sealed the whole piece, also back lighting on the wood. Despite my ideas the piece looks great.

I like how you used the rusted steel rods rather than polishing them so the blend in with the color of the root system and do not stand out or take away from the view of the wood. The wood and metal base is a great feature and looks very nice. I think the acrylic top looks amazing also. Overall. stunning piece.

I hope future customers of the restaurant will appreciate it. Speaking as both a wood-turner, professional arborist and amateur woodworker, I wish you nothing but the best. Beauty, as they say, is in the eye of the beholder, but that does not give people the right to hurl abuse back at you. The only point is perhaps those comments regarding your 'cursing'. It's hardly family viewing I would think and there's far worse out there. Here in the UK we wouldn't even consider words like 'damn' to be cursing. Telling someone to 'get off your high-horse, you c**t', however, might be. Good luck!

I love the way you handled the root base, the sanding to a natural polish that contrasts with the rest of the root - true perfection. The steel/wood/rusted rod base fit exactly with the character. You deserve to be really, really proud. Stunning.
I did some work at a rich lady's house where she had a dining room table made from a giant govid about the same size. They had to remove the roof of her house and use a crane to put it in her living room. Most unbelievable table I've ever seen!!!
Very impressive! The rods throw it off a bit for me but to each their own. One idea I’d think about on a different topic would be adding some lighting in the root system to give it some cool depth.

I am totally in love with this piece. Redwood is my favorite and in its natural state is second to none. What you did with this stunning piece is fantastic and 5 stars in anyone's book. I am now a huge fan and watching everything you put out.

Fantastic table, but to me, the vertical steel rods are glaringly inappropriate. Sorry. They clash with the curvaceous base. Plexiglas at 1-1/2" thick is plenty strong enough for the vertical rods not to be necessary. Some straightforward bending strength calculations should have been done before deciding whether such rods were necessary. Good luck with your next one.
I agree 100% the rods are visually disturbing. It takes away from the overall look of this beautiful table.

I agree, I didn't like the whole build just because of them, I assume he didn't want to destroy wood by cutting in and putting supports, but the way the rods looked from above ruined the amazing table for me

I would have chosen a glass top and made it either an oval or capsule shape, to tie in the ancient wood with the modern glass.! I also would have finished the entire root.

After reading some of the comments, some of those people are nuts. You just made a perfect piece, flawless and a blessing.

If i have to be 100% honest, first ill say that that table is absolutely beautiful there will be no complaints, I know them poles were important it just seems like they're out of place because they're not uniform. But I would have only said that if I was forced to that things just amazing great work you got a subscriber for life here man
That table is amazing. As soon as acrylic was mentioned in the video my first thoiught was scratches.

I cannot believe all the negative comments below, but then I made a coffee table with a clear fir 2X14, box joint kitty corner waterfall ends and opposing kitty corner basalt column notched legs. Someone saw it and sait they could get a coffee table at IKEA for $50. 🤦♂️ What ever.

Agree with the comment below, soft lights to accentuate the root would really enhance the look from above, particularly with the reflection off the acrylic. The posts I do not like, cheapens the whole table. You have shown a lot of skill and patience for a younger man. Be proud.

I caught myself several times, watching w my mouth open in fascination and disbelief simultaneously! I was feeling fearful throughout the lifting and setting down procedures, as well as each step in your process. I can't imagine even being able to touch that unique piece of time travel, maybe they're still never be "time travel machines", this I believe is as close I'll be in that scene! Absolutely fascinating! Thank you for sharing this project, your filming, dialog and editing are spot on to this amateur, I felt and understood all of it.

19:10 The AquaDom pictured in the lobby of the Radisson Blu hotel in Berlin. It cost around €12.8m and contained 1,500 fish and over a million litres of water. On the 16th of December 2022 the temperature dropped to a freezing -6C causing the tank to crack and then explode.

My concern would be people sitting around it and kicking at the root network, hanging purses and stuff on the root and breaking pieces off. This would be cool as a display table in an exhibit where it would get proper respect. It looks fantastic tho, you did a great job!

Man such a great job you did but you wanted some constructive criticism,,,, so the only thing i would change is the steel pipe for support. Find a redwood branch about 3.5 inches and use that instead of the pipe. Other than that super job man. You are super humble and i like that in a you tuber. That showers class in my opinion,,,,, well done my friend.

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. The only thing I would have done different is not use the rusty pipe. I'd have suggested Brass to compliment the wood. I'd love to see something like this but fully and completely encased in crystal clear epoxy as one massive block for a coffee table or a massive counter of sorts.
I debated a lot on what to use, I didn't want anything loud to take away from the root itself, to me blending in was the best way, lots of people love the solid rod idea, lots hate it. lol
What a true work of art. I could sit at that table with a drink, looking at it for hours.

Always good to see young folks getting the woodworking design bug. Youth aren't stuck in the mud of experience, hence their ideas are always fresh, new and exciting, even if sometimes a learning experience with materials choices and placement. That experience will serve you well when you're an old schooler to some like me! Pass it on please. I hope you feel the same in 40-50 years. Great piece!

From a consumer's perspective with a creative eye.... Wouldn't you knock your legs under the table against the bits sticking out underneath at knee height? Also, those steel posts on either side didn't make sense to me? Apologies if you explained it elsewhere. Otherwise, this saved ancient piece is a miracle frozen in time. Love watching your work it's so pleasing and satisfying!!!

Looks great but the rods ruin it… get a branch or some kind of wood and have it drilled out, glue the rods inside of it. And then you can still bolt everything together with a wayyyyy better esthetic
