    There is no greater contrast in one composition than in the magnificent Combat de Mort et de la Vie!

    The final movement is one of the most beautiful and haunting pieces I know. Unlike anything else, even by Messiaen.

      Robert- is that the one -- as the London label liner notes described -- recorded "In the presence of the composer"?

    40:05 VI Joie et clarté des Corps Glorieux (played by Olivier Latry):
    Very jazzy & funny - for me the first organ work from Messiaen that sounds not so "clerical" ;o)

      Cb65at Messiaen would probably have killed you for the term « jazzy » ... He had a total aversion toward jazz music : « permissive society - sexual freedom - drugs - jazz nightclubs »

      Cb65at sure, it’s in the french book on Olivier Messiaen by Harry Halbreich (read it if you have french basics !), and also Roger Muraro (who was my piano teacher) told me that !

      @@randompianistis4670 thx a lot! i have no french basics... but it's a fact, that some of messiaens accords match perfectly to jazz accords (and they are older) - maybe he invented them on another way.

    • @randompianistis4670
      @randompianistis4670 4 года назад +1

      Cb65at jazzmen didn’t invented harmonies, jazz basics like blues in particular are fully original, but at some point jazz musicians picked up classical harmonies from Debussy, Ravel, Scriabin, Berg, etc., and after that some others composers like Messiaen (whose harmonic language is an extrapolation and personification of composers harmonies that preceded him, like almost every composers in the world) and make their own from these. Anyway, at the beginning I was saying that Messiaen didn’t intended a « jazzy » (what does « jazzy » mean ?…) kind of piece, and he was a sincere believer.

      I think not, Sir, just the honest choice that I did *not* mention that composer (read: re-intepreter) by name should more than define my opinion of him, while not entirely dismissing his various works, some of which are enjoyable
      full disclosure: Messiaen is my Supreme Musical God, as no other has composer has moved me to tears, joy, chills, pure wonderment and pure enjoyment as Messiaen, especially his organ pieces

      @@doctorpatient519 It is not wise to assume I am a 'Sir', although you may enjoy adding to your hues.
      Your judgement is fair. I would nevertheless have encouraged writing the name of John Williams...
      Like you, Messiaen is indeed one of my favourite composers (hence my name, avatar, and channel...); and one extremely dear to my heart. In other news, what other recordings do you enjoy of Les corps glorieux? I have the audio of Latry playing the cycle in 320kbps quality; you can email me if you like it.

      my observation is posted without emotion - simply calling attention to what perhaps was an intentional "quoting" of Messiaen by John Williams ... an "inspired by" notation somewhere on his score or album would've been nice ... in one of the first two Mothers of Invention albums, Zappa sings the famous first line of "Rite of Spring" ... but, in the liner notes, he names Stravinsky, among many others, who helped/influenced his musical endeavors

    Nada o casi nada se sabe de los cuerpos gloriosos. Fue S. Pablo teorizó sobre la naturaleza divina de Jesucristo, y por ende de los demás cristia-
    nos 😮. Pero qué pasó, que en realidad llenó de platonismo la naturaleza divina del Cristo, orientando la filosofía cristiana posterior, desde tales premisas 😢. (ver "Heavinly Illusion", del album "From the full moon story" de Kitaro), todo el desarrollo de la filosofía crstiana se fundamentó ; así se arrastró toda nueva filosofía con retardo a ésta. Por ejemplo, Marx se adelantó a ls "doctrina social de la Iglesia" o la idea del Reino de los Cielos se postpuso bastante después de la aparición de los "estudiantes de la Biblia" que más tarde fueron llamados "testigos de Jehová" 😢. Y así arrastrando la cocepción de una Iglesia viva, de una Iglesia nueva, queda en falaz utopía.
