this is the Hyundai version of the Kia Stonic sold in Europe. It is based on the Kia Rio/ Hyundai i20/Accent hatchback. Kia Stonic has better looking front end and is available with the 1.4L turbo engine. here in the usa, both companies are too concerned about the mpg rating, and this car is underpowered.
I have a 6 speed manual version. It’s definitely the weirdest manual I’ve ever driven. Maybe the clutch is just super touchy. Plus I think the geared these cars weird to make up for the lack of horsepower. When I shift into 1st and 2nd gear it is really rough and even makes a clunking sound because it’s so touchy.
I want to add that the wheel covers are locked in by the lug nuts. Really nice as they covers won’t fly off over bumps. Honda use to do have these years back. Not sure why they stopped.
Nice useful and simple little suv. I hope to see one in person soon because it seems to have that flair that's been missing in cars for a long time without being quirky. Great safety features for an entry level car. Think I might want one but with the manual trans. Have a cvt car now and not feeling the love.
You didn’t ‘zonk’ anything Joe. 😀 I guess you kind of zonked the missing arm rest. Message to car manufacturers if you list a car for less than 20k, it will not be zonked. Another great review Joe. Keep up the excellent work.
I went and looked at one in person. It really does not look that small body wise, but the little standard wheels looks so small in the wheel wells. You definitely need to go with the 17s on the SEL for a better look or go bigger aftermarket wheels for the SE.
This could very well be the new Scion XB replacement. I think a lot of people would want this in a manual transmission. Hopefully they put a nice shifting manual in it.

@@GlobalTV123 I have the manual version. It’s super touchy. I think they geared it weird to make up for the lack of horsepower. Mine sounds like it’s gonna break every time I shift from 1st to 2nd
This makes for a good city car, where you aren't going fast and you aren't going far. Obviously an EV will do this better, but EV's are way more expensive and not easy to charge in a parking garage. If you have a big truck like an f250 diesel, this would also make a great daily commuter while leaving your truck for more truck stuff (towing/hauling)

Technically the best value and most reliable fun to drive Venue is indeed base trim with 6 speed manual transmission - in Canada it's price is unbelievable $17,099 MSRP in Canadian dollars - converted to US dollars it will be just hair above $13k - for spacious boxy, fuel-sipping and stylish subcompact SUV with 5 year 100k comprehensive manufacturer factory warranty - Hyundai really is an expert car automaker when it comes to price/value ratio. That said their new CVT transmission probably still has many issues to be fixed/worked out being so "fresh" on the market and developed in-house - my 2019 Kia Forte with CVT totally broke down just 3 months after delivery and with less than 5k kms on the odometer - it's been at the dealer since Dec 12th waiting for new transmission to be shipped in for replacement. ;-(
