Hey that was my idea... install the computer system on a chip computer into the neo geo x gold and matching up the plugs and cables to make best looking knock off possible...
MiSTer is my favorite modern retro device by far. Still need to grab the new RAM but it’s been fun messing with what I can play on Neo Geo with the old RAM. Cool video.
Nice video. Have you thought about doing a comparison video between mister vs software emulation? Would be great to see the differences and your thoughts.
I just took the plunge today and bought all the stuff needed including a 128mb ram,I live in a hot and humid country and I’m sick and tired my old stuff going bad by time and constantly need servicing especially monitors, not to mention the space needed to house them,so I decided to sell everything and get one of these, probably I won’t be needing anything else ever after this..
My MiSTer is now installed in my Arcade 1UP Street Fighter cabinet. Working well so far, just need to get the on/off switch wired into the power cable. The resolution via HDMI is 720p, which means 4:3 cores appear far too narrow on screen, but changing the core to 16:9 makes them look better on the 5:4 screen... I just wish I could set the HDMI resolution!
I'm excited for this and will eventually pull the trigger on an FPGA solution, but I think I'll wait things out for a while yet as better and better solutions are sure to be released.
Put a new spring in that Neo Geo Gold controller and it'll feel a LOT better. That's what I did. Replaced the spring and put arcade quality buttons in it.
I just got a DE10 Nano and an IO Board. I still need to get a usb hub, and a controller which will probably be the 8 button usb Genesis controller. As well as a VGA to Component cable so I can play it on my CRT. Mainly got it as an entry point to SuperGrafx/PC Engine since it was going to be a lot more money to get a SuperGrafx and an SSDS3. Hearing that the TBGX 16 Core is nearly or about perfect at this point with CD support made me feel MiSTer was a better choice. I will probably get the 128MB SDRam board later down the road since Neo Geo support is awesome and the Amiga was always something I wanted to try out.
@@Madlittlepixel I got the controller and everything I needed to get it up and running on my crt and it worked perfectly. I can't tell if there's any input lag with the controller at all which is a good thing. There isn't any CD iso support there on the tg16 core yet so I probably heard wrong on that. I know its in development though so it will more then likely be added in the future.
There are a few boards out and on the horizon that use LLAPI for direct input to the cores. Waiting on a Blisster to replace the USB hub as I was wanting to mess with more zapper based games on the CRT.
Hey LOVE your channel! You always have some of the best retro gaming info. So I just ordered a Mister and I'm going to use it primarily for Neo Geo. I also ordered the Neo Geo X dock and I was thinking of ways I would be able to fit that thing in there with proper ventilation and make it look elegant. The same thing you brought up in this video, have you gotten very far with that? Anyway, I have an idea and this is what I came up with: I'm going to order an empty AES cartridge shell, then put the Mister in there. I've always had an issue with the mini systems like the classic SNES and Sega Genesis because they don't have a cartridge on top. The cart just really completes the look. And since it's so big, there's a lot of space to work with. Heck, you can even put another fan in there. I may have to cut an inch or two from the bottom as I know that dock X door is fake. I just haven't decided how to connect it yet. But I think I can make it work as a port, I have some PCB boards lying around. My goal is to have it look nice and clean, just plug in the fake cartridge/Mister and get power and peripherals. The dock is still pretty cool, so I may still use it as storage for the Neo CD controllers (but I know it's quite cramped so it may not fit). Anyway, I'd like to hear your thoughts, once again, great stuff man, keep up the good work!
I'm wanting to play some arcade games and don't want to hassle with downloading MAME on my computer and just might buy one of these to have a crap ton of classic gaming consoles and computers all in one. I ordered a Retro USB AVS the other day it came today and I'm playing NES games on the Everdrive N8 right now and love the machine. I own original games for all my retro systems but got into flash carts mainly for convenience. I'll wait for the price of the Mister to come down right now it and the components are out of my price range.

Well, even the poorest and cheapest retro gamer who has nothing and not a dollar to his name can see the incredible value you get for the MiSter. The product is obviously not intended for you. I would be curious to know what you think is a good value for playing retro games. Even if you are fine with emulation, only a decent computer can get rid of the latency using RetroArch and certain options... and that is only on certain cores.

You just put in a cartridge, connect to HDMI and it works. Emulation is basically perfect, whereas MiSTer is a work in progress for some systems. You can also use original carts and controllers. I have a SuperNT as in reality that's the only system I care about playing and am happy enough with emulation for others. Still, this is an exciting project and I am interested to see how it continues to develop.

I have a DE-10 Nano board ready to go. 128mb sdram showing up today. I got Blisster(low latency integrated usb hub basically) pre-ordered for Feb 15th 2020. Also just ordered the official Mister Blisster 2020 case and the newest IO board with the noctua fan. Does anyone know if I'll need to get the real time clock addon?? Or what would be the reason to get one? Anything else I missed that I may want/need? This is basically going to be my Neo Geo instead of going for an AES with Neo SD. Mister is way cheaper and if it's low input lag and cycle accurate then it sounds perfect to me! Also I modded a PS3/PC usb arcade stick with a Sanwa stick and buttons, will the stick work in Mister plug and play style?? If anybody can answer any of my questions I would greatly appreciate it!

You have to obtain the roms yourself. Roms are not included for legal reasons. Getting roms isn't that hard though getting complete packs like the everdrive packs is a bit harder then it used to be. I would recommend looking into learning how to complie the SmokeMonster Everdrive packs if you want something Complete. Then use those packs for the matching console core and you should be all set.

Many options available and its no ones place to say whats right or wrong~ Loves me some options, and love to share them with people~
It's all relative. All-in it can get pretty expensive, but, when you factor in it runs ALL Neo Geo, TurboGrafx, SNES, Megadrive, etc, etc, old computers and arcade cores, honestly, I think it's incredible value for money. The de-10 nano itself should be selling at 4 times what it can be purchased if not for Intel subsidising.
I emulate old NES games at 4k on my Pc and accuracy is almost, if not, perfect and while for other consoles it probably won't be 100% accurate in the near future, I would love to get into the mister but the DE-10 Nano FPGA tops at 1080p, which isn't bad but now that I have a 4k tv and I have tasted the ultra sharp pixels, I don't want to go back lol Any word on a future fpga chip capable of 4k? Will the already written cores for the DE-10 Nano FPGA work on future fpga upgraded chipsets from the same company? I don't mind paying $300 for an fpga chip capable of doing what the mister is currently doing but at 4k.
@@Jucelegario I'm far from an expert with how FPGA chips work. I think however it's very unlikely 4k is possible, least on the de10 nano board. Software emulation is great as it was for me for the longest time. Got TONS of use out of my Pi3 and I recently just got a Pi4 (4gb) variant. However. Once I sampled MiSTer, basic board and 32ram, I couldn't then go back to Pi emulation. 1080p of MiSTer is no 4k but still plenty sharp and more importantly for me is the lack of input latency. This happened to me when I first emulated a console, I tried playing a game I knew back and forth from the 90s and it didn't feel the same and I couldn't understand why because at first glance you can't see it. At the same time, the best way to get this feeling is with the mister, which is what you just told me you are into.
Dude this is all cool and stuff.... But im idiot and where can i get this all set up and play this fpga fooker!! Just show me the road and i will get there.....
VADER GAMER he did in the links in the description of the video. You first need to get the DE-10 Nano kit, the mini usb hub and also the ram. Hooked together with a usb controller and an Sd card you can add roms and your off to the races. The IO board is optional, but recommended. It gives you a few additional options like easy reset and power buttons, a fan, VGA out so you can use CRT and monitors. Then you just add on what you want from there. You’ll have to Do lots of research as it’s a bit of a rabbit hole but a fun one. You don’t need to be incredibly tech Saavy either.
Unpopular opinion here: Everything sounds cool and all...but Analogue or Retrousb, Krikzz or Terraonion, give you reasons to want their FPGA products, cause you use them with your real hardware, consoles or cartridges, Put any FPGA solution side by side with any good emulator, it doesn't needs to be Higan or Blastem level of emulation, and nobody could tell the difference, all this old systems are PERFECTLY emulated already, FPGA it's emulation, fancy but emulation at the end.
So that's what this is. You've been talking about this thing for months like we should all know what it is. 'Pretty stupid name, but FPGA is always welcome. On second thought, the name can stay for the off chance that it might piss off some feminists.
Wahmen suck at games. If some wahmen are playing games these days is because of cellphones and they mosly play candy crush styled bs and farming, planting plants and kitty stuff. These push of them playing what we play is pathetic and stupid.
From what I've heard, It should have the power to do Saturn. The only thing is that I wouldn't expect a Saturn core to come up anytime soon. Since the Saturn is a very complex system which also means its very complex to write a fpga core for it.

Yep, no need to switch or anything.
@@Madlittlepixel even with an eventual psx core ?
Cool;-)
Dude this is all cool and stuff....
But im idiot and where can i get this all set up and play this fpga fooker!! Just show me the road and i will get there.....
VADER GAMER he did in the links in the description of the video. You first need to get the DE-10 Nano kit, the mini usb hub and also the ram. Hooked together with a usb controller and an Sd card you can add roms and your off to the races. The IO board is optional, but recommended. It gives you a few additional options like easy reset and power buttons, a fan, VGA out so you can use CRT and monitors. Then you just add on what you want from there. You’ll have to
Do lots of research as it’s a bit of a rabbit hole but a fun one. You don’t need to be incredibly tech Saavy either.
:) any Canadian sellers?
It's a byproduct of the MiST project
Wahmen suck at games. If some wahmen are playing games these days is because of cellphones and they mosly play candy crush styled bs and farming, planting plants and kitty stuff. These push of them playing what we play is pathetic and stupid.
I'm naming everything Mist now
what is that game he is playing at 10:15
Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad
Will this setup have enough Oomph for Saturn emulation?
From what I've heard, It should have the power to do Saturn. The only thing is that I wouldn't expect a Saturn core to come up anytime soon. Since the Saturn is a very complex system which also means its very complex to write a fpga core for it.
Looks interesting but can it play Fortnite?
I'll stick to my $35 raspberry pi, thx
