I feel so guilty for having a son just to try and make my existence better, knowing he’s gonna have to go through all this and probably worse, the state of our country and the world. For most people life is just surviving instead of thriving.
This is so true I’m the exact same mate, in my early twenties. Mainly worked retail so far and of the places I’ve worked up until now, not one of the jobs have left me feeling good about myself. In fact, it makes me question my purpose and how the hell I can break the cycle. You’re not alone in feeling like that brother trust me
I completely feel you brother, I'm 33 years old, left my job 7 months ago out of frustration, though i don't know what to pursue in life. Now I'm running out of my savings, so with no road ahead forceful to return to those stupid jobs. I regret for having wasted for so many years of my life, not pursuing anything particular field or skill. I've been depressed for more than a decade, sometime i feel like shouting and crying man so I could get out from this misery i hold within myself. I wish you well brother, here someone listening to you from thousands of miles❤❤

Mate I feel ya, 35 here. Went from job to job. UK based. Work full time, 55 hour weeks currently. Occupation, manager. I fricken hate it, I can do the job, I can do it well. I could do all of my other jobs well also. But, I think there's something wrong with me man, I just get sick. As you say, I feel like a slave. I love the outdoors, love exploring. But I can't as I need to work to pay the bills, look after the family but it's crap man. Some days I wake up and feel like you know. I've had enough.... Life is hard, feel stuck. Right there with ya. It sucks
@Unclejammertalks that's exactly it man, the cost of living is through the roof right now. As a manager I'm only £1 above min. With me working a lot, I'm spending £170pm just on fuel for my job as I have to commute which makes the week feel longer. Rent is stupidly high same with council tax in my area which is increasing even more. Rent fuel and tax costs over £1kpm alone lol. It's crazy, needed a new car as the other one was going to cost over 1.7 to fix. More money.... Price of cars right now 🤯. Contracted to 45 hours pw but everyone is on the sick so I'm working 10 hours extra a week for free.... As I'm salaried and we're not allowed to claim the time back.... But I'm forced as it's placed on me because I'm the manager..... despite not getting paid for it 😂. But I've overwhelmed with the extra workload due to lack of support, am doesn't care but throws more work on to me. Life sucks man. Hardly any other jobs going so yeah. Sorry about the rant lol. But yeah the UK sucks right now we're all wage slaves. Even if you were earning decent money the cost of living is keeping everyone down. Starting my own little business but I'm exhausted man from the hours to stay a float which drains the soul. Been up since 3am, finished work at 7pm last night, about to leave in 10 mins for work.... Start at 4:45..... Work rights what's that? Rest break? Lol tpp many people off on the sick. But what about me, the dude left to pick it all up 😂. Anyways man thanks for the video,.have a good one. I won't lol
100% resonate with this, subscribed 👍 Its the system, we serve this slave system that we never signed up for. Its just expected of us because it was done by our parents etc. There needs to be a massive change in how we live on this planet, ive felt this since a teenager, im 40 now and still feel like this. Some people on the other hand are like automitons, happily serving the system like robots 🙄
@Unclejammertalks as a side note. When I was a teen I was in a mega dark place and saw my life going nowhere. I hung on and my life has progressed massively, married with two kids and run my own business. Just shows if you hang in there things can turn around for anyone but it is tough. Even though I run my own business I still feel like a money collector for the government. As I said things need to massively change in the world. I feel we're coming to a breaking point!
@@Grantycbass I'm happy you turned your life around mate I really mean that, I just have to keep moving forward and what ever happens happens respect pal 👍
@Grantycbass fact is, we are headed for pretty significant changes, thanks to globalism and the rise of Ai. Universal Basic Income (UBI) may be welcome by many who hate the idea of working for corporations that don't value them. Trouble is, I have a feeling it might lead us further into servitude to the establishment. I also hated working for others, happiest when self-employed.
So you can be a lazy pos doing nothing of importance at home whatsoever. You’d be on TikTok, and sometimes RUclips. Just resign, someone out there better than you deserves that role.
The earth, which is part of the world is an awesome, mystical place ! Full of majestic beauty. It’s the rulers who make living in it such a horror for the human. ❤😢
It's the same feeling I've always had. I'm 39 now, turning 40 in one month, and I'm not at all where I thought I would have been at this age. The last many years, I had been trying to avoid the hamster wheel, living in cabins in Sweden, that I fund relatively cheap and renovated - but it got lonely out there. Ten years ago I wrote about, that I felt all jobs where the same, no matter the profession. At least all working class jobs, where you just sell your time to someone, or some company. And this is how I still see it. It's easy to fantasize about a new job, and how you are going to fit in and feel nice there - but reality is, that you will feel trapped within a very short amount of time. I think, that when you as a person feel like this, then it's time to level up. I don't know how, but that is what you have to do. Remove yourself from "working jobs", and stop listening to people who tell you, that you need to have a job. Because if you would, you had taken a job. One of my dreams is to own a large place, where I can do some AirBnb for guests, and live simply and cheap myself. Having some animals, being mostly self sufficient and maybe a part time job - or having my own kind of business, although I don't know yet what it should be. I think that what you are experiencing now is, that you want to be your own boss in your life.
@@christian_koester 💯 % Christian mate I do want to be my own boss but I'm still trying to figure life out thank you for your comment mate I really appreciate it 👍
The only job you can be truly happy in, is the one where you'd willingly work for free if it came down to it. Not many of those around unless you create it yourself!
I've been in this headspace all my twenties dude, like your constantly looking for an answer, a solution. But you are the one who adopts that mentality. Most of the purpose driven stuff is BS. We have all been conditioned to focus on the future and "achieving" something, whilst neglecting the now. Constantly chasing will always leave you empty. What is there to get? Your alive and part of life already. You already are complete. Also taking this thing seriously compounds all the shit because you think you need to reach a goal before your time is up.
I realised this about my self in terms of work. I will never like work. I work full time remote and and I'm off wednesdays and weekends. atleast I have some freedom.
Finnish guy here. I think you're spot on there where you said: "I'm just going to go with the flow". Just keep your mind open and you'll get there where your soul wants you to be.
Agreed mate. I'm 33 - left uni aged 21, worked ever since. I've had 8 jobs in those 12 years and not found stimulation, satisfaction or consistent interest in any of them. Only solutions I've been able to determine are: 1) Passion - make or break and follow something you love. Feels like this could make you a millionaire or homeless, with no in-between. 2) Pragmatism - continue in these 'safe' jobs (is anything truly safe?) and focus on finding small pockets of happiness in and around them, accepting that only a small percentage of working people get to love their jobs. I don't feel like we have the time or the energy to apply ourselves to both paths.
Remember that the answers always come from your within and still you're young and healthy, keep up trying to reach the best version of yourself. Good luck boy!!
Saw your video in the recommendation from RUclips. Thanks for your sincerity, it is really hard nowadays no matter the country. Stay strong, sending my love and prayers.. Greetings from Belarus, subscribed.
I felt this this for years, finally at 55, I get it, I’m finally happy . I’ve finally accepted who I am, what I have, and at last at some sort of peace in my head
@ being honest, it’s just an acceptance that at my age I should be grateful for what I have, things like in in fairly good health, as are my family. I understand it’s not for some, and I think age has mellowed me
You're obviously a thoughtful, kind, sensitive and empathic man. I could see you being a good counsellor, therapist or mental health nurse because you understand how people feel and have empathy. I think a lot of people don't think much about the system and they're not sensitive so they don't really care as long as they've got what they want. I have also struggled a lot with the work system, I am still trying to figure out a way forward. Keep going and follow your intuition, that's what we all need to do.
@Unclejammertalks No problem, I hope you're able to find a new path soon. I've also just seen your video about your dad and commented on that too, my own dad died of dementia so I know how hard it is to go through.
No disrespect but those professions you mentioned are enough to be as depressing as the clients that would come seeking a resolve to their issues. I’m not heartless, I feel and know exactly what the topic spoken about feels like. I’m beginning to realise that the darkness is a place a lot of us have to seek before we can hopefully get to the light. It’s here, it is a kingdom. ❤
@@Naturelife7-i6b I don't think those professions would be depressing since it feels good to help people. I've done similar jobs and enjoyed them. He'd get paid well for his skills and talents rather than being stuck in mind numbing miserable minimum wage jobs.
@@katec9893 I just feel working on self, for yourself, is the the only way that would bring forth long lasting, if not lasting results. At 39 I remember taking my son to the park he was so happy and free and I sat on a bench with my head in my hands same feeling as you. I had endured it for decades. I tell you within 6 months of that point my life changed for the better. Completely by surprise. I found a cheap house abroad and sold everything I had and learned to live on peanuts money. That was 5 years ago. I don't think happiness is easy to find in a job. I think the first step forwards could be to get a plan together, and learn to live on less, much less. I see a job differently now. Its a means to an end. I don't feel like a slave anymore.
I understand what you're saying. I’ve been there before, and maybe still am, i end up thinking that if I did this or that, I’d find happiness, only to end up in the same place. But I’ve found the answer, and it’s Jesus. Say what you will, but no matter how hard life gets, I have peace because I know I’m saved. I believe the life after this one will be far better, and that gives me hope. So now, the best thing I can do is rejoice, stay joyful, share His word, and live according to His will. To me, this is the truth, Peace be upon you.

I sympathize with you because I’m in the same boat. I was also in the army and got out a little over 10 years ago. Leaving those friendships behind…There’s a void there that nothing fills. A sense of belonging. I’ve never gotten over it all these years later. We keep in touch now and then but it doesn’t replace the emptiness. Once you see behind the curtain of the world and the mechanisms that drive it, you can’t unsee it, and in a very real way, that becomes even more isolating. The phrase “There are no new frontiers” encapsulates how we feel. Everything has been explored, life is commodified, and the only escape is death. We are cogs in a machine to people who want to rule over the stars. To counter that there is also another saying, “If you are not happy here and now, you never will be.” If you discover how to do this, tell me how. That’s my piece, take care bud.
I'm a retired engineer. While I was working and keeping busy life was grand. I didn't start having problems until after I retired -- too much time on my hands. As goofy as this sounds, what saved me from my doldrums was a stray cat I stumbled across. Befriending, feeding, and taking care of him got me going again. It's the simple things that save us it seems. It seems you've been like the jack of all trades. I wish you well.
Just wanted to say that (and I sure this goes for a lot of people around our age), this is so common to feel lost and without a purpose. I have been on this path myself, feeling lost and wanting more out of life. I made some huge changes with giving up full time working at sea to go back to University, studying Electrical Engineering. I did this at 33 years old and I am in my 4th year now. It hasn't been easy and I have continued to feel lost at times, constantly wondering if I am on the right path. But what has helped me is journaling, writing down my thoughts allows me to reflect on common themes. What I have discovered is the passion I have felt in my life has only ever been during times which I have worked on my own projects. Perhaps there is a project, idea or direction which you could explore in your free time. Something which will capture your focus and is meaningful. Motivation comes after you start but when you obtain it, it could give you the purpose your looking for, or it could lead you in the direction of where that might be.
I will be honest with you Joe I'm lost I don't know what my next steps in life are I'm just going with the flow and hoping that one day I might be happy

Was lucky enough to quit work in my mid 40s (escaped 5 years ago). Still not happy. From what I have learnt it's about creation. When we create it brings the satisfaction and joy missing from when we consume. Working for others is a consumption, it consumes our time for the payment of the means to buy more things to consume. Create something. You did with this video.
I honestly think it’s because we have seen other people with rich lifestyles such as movie stars or whatever professional career leads to that, such as those computer people who can work wherever they like, and people like us just go from one average job to the other and that brings with it a slave feeling.
The thing is I have got a high consciousness and brains, because I passed the train driver psychometric tests and hgv theories more than once but didn’t lead to me getting a job, I just get lumbered with these ordinary jobs. I think some of us just ain’t meant to be rich like Jesus, and meant to grow in love.
Mate I feel exactly the same as you! Everything you're saying resonates with me and I'm sure there are many of us! I've never felt like I fitted in with society and have always felt like an outsider and that I don't belong wherever I've worked and whatever I've been doing or wherever I've been. It always seems like everyone else is different to me and are generally happy to fit into society's norms and ideals and know what they're doing in life and are able to just keep plodding on where as I always felt apart from that and always felt like there must be more to life but never knew exactly what or where I fitted in. I've never really known what I wanted to do with my life or "what I wanted to be" and always felt like I just wanted to escape and "be free". I still feel like a lost, lonely, little boy even now at the age of (a young 😌) 53! I'm married with two almost adult sons and I feel like the only real achievement I've ever had in my life was looking after my sons and spending all my time with them (I've been a stay at home Dad since the eldest one was 6 months old) and bringing them up properly to be bright, healthy, kind, thoughtful, considerate young men; but that has been a struggle in itself and one that has definitely taken its toll on my mental health. I'm now very much a loner with depression and anxiety and no self confidence or self esteem so every day is a struggle. My biggest worry is that one or both of my sons will be like me and that the way I am will rub off on them or they will just have this in built melancholy that seems to have pervaded most of my life. Luckily (at the moment at least) they both seem to be happy, driven young men who are doing really well and have got bright futures ahead of them and know what they want to do so that makes me feel happy and their Mum is an excellent role model! My only real solace and escape is music. That has always been there for me and has helped me get through some bad times and helped me feel at least like I'm "a part of something" and have got things in common with other people when I listen to the lyrics and know that the person who wrote them has similar thoughts and feelings to me and that they resonate with many people aswell. Going to gigs used to make me feel "alive" and it was great to know that I was in a room with people that were like me and that "get it" but I haven't been to a gig for a long time now because of social anxiety and financial constraints (aswell as getting old ha ha). That's something I used to love doing where I felt like I belonged more but unfortunately that's been absent from my life for quite a while now (although I'm planning on trying to get to at least one or two gigs this year) and the music is and always will be there to help me get through all the shit. I also love being out in the countryside and the open air and walking and I find if I can actually motivate myself to go out then it definitely helps my mental health although I'm a terrible insomniac so stay up all night long which means I often don't have a great deal of energy in the day. At some point I'd love to be able to buy some woodland and live in my own log cabin away from everyone and become self sufficient and just live in peace (I really crave peace and space!) but that's a pipe dream and probably won't ever be possible especially in the UK as the laws are so restrictive! Anyway dude sorry for the very (!) long message and for waffling on but I just wanted to say that you're not alone in how you feel at all as I'm exactly the same and looking at the comments there seems to be plenty of us around. It's a collection of many things, but in general people do feel down because they simply cannot afford basic things despite being forced to work at least twice as hard. Creativity and self fullfilment is almost gone, since people cling to certain jobs just to pay their bills, which means they live to pay bills. The saying ''all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy'' has come true. We all just work, and don't have time to play. Its depressing. But it does get better. Not by much, but better. @Unclejammertalks I've felt like you a lot in my life, I'm 32/M/UK. Last person on one side of my family. Was refreshing to hear you describe what is reality for most of us. Keep on keeping on, I reckon you'd be good at helping others.
Ran into this video and all I have to say is you are correct. Every job is the same but I'll tell you that even if you don't have a job or be able to do what you want, eventually it gets boring. I traveled to a lot of places and it's all the same after you seen it. It's nothing fun and life is just suffering for anyone. Even some really rich people and celebrities, commit suic*de because of how boring, meaningless, pointless, suffering life is. So even if you do get to do what you want, you will ask yourself why we all exist and that in the end we all die. We all just here to survive and nothing else. Don't let anyone fool you when they say that life is ''amazing'' when it's not. 💯
i had a job once that I loved. It was nothing special really, but I drove forklift outdoor for a big company. Then it had to close down and I was moved to another company working inside a factory. And yeah then I got into the bad feeling again that I hate working. Right now i've been unemployed for almost a year. I don't know what I wanna do either. Maybe I get rich on investments and stocks which I bought when I had a job.
@Unclejammertalks I'm not even materialistic but modern society still requires near full time work to even afford the basics. I am lucky to live with family but when that is no longer possible I fear for myself. I moved out for a year, a couple years back, and my mental health deteriorated so incredibly due to isolation
I started my rat race in 76 a bit disturbed by my parents and school, clueless, looking back it was bad but not relentlessly so, i read a book recently called Of Street Pie Man by Henry Mayhew, London mid 1800s, not much has changed with having to scrape around for a living.
I feel you bro, dont get me wrong, Ive been right there in the thick of the misery and hopelessness, but I have some hard but happy truth to share. Jobs arent meant to make us happy. Why burden your job with making you happy? YOU need to learn to be happy BEFORE your job, and before anything, to be honest. Then we are simply happy doing whatever stupid shit life requires of us, not because of the things we are doing in and of themselves, but because we have located Happiness prior to anything happening or nor happening. Happiness is in Being, simple Being-ness. That might sound new-agey and airy-fairy, but give it a fookin minute, alright? Its the most obvious and overlooked Gift in life. So we tend to step over the Gift and go searching for a bunch of shite that has no hope of making us happy. Look at the bastard cat, how many blokes jealously eyeball the lazy, cozy, happy-as-larry cat on their way out the door to their shite job, lying there on the sofa blissfully curled up without a care in the world. Be like the cat, just tumble-weed through the mind. Nothing going on, learn to meditate. You will find you still have the ability to take care of business and do whats necessary, but you will also feel a huge weight lifted and feel lighter, less depressed, and happy for no seeming reason. "Looking at my shite life, I should be swingin from a fookin tree, but since I learned to meditate and say eff you to my mind, Im actually happy, and I cant say why!"
@@SteadyEggs Yeah cheers bro, get in ther, its where true peace is waiting for everyone. All of our "problems" are only in our mind. There is still difficulties in life, but how has chronically overthinking ever made those problems any better? Every time you catch yourself wandering through the mind, indulging in that negative shitty narrative that only deepens the hole of hopelessness, EVERY single time you catch yourself, you say STOP! And simply disengage from the story, and again, and again, and again...... The more you disengage, and the longer you keep the discipline, the less control it has, and like an unused muscle it beings to fall away, and the ability to be mindlessly Present in the moment is Known. Peace bro, tell your mates! Be warned though, they may start calling you new-age steady-eggs or whatever!
Hey man I love this comment of yours , I’ve gone through ebbs and flows recently of having my mind literally take over and create insane false narratives and make me unhappy by perpetual overthinking , like I have 1 eye looking out yet the other eye turned inwards to the mind so I’m never truly present , I need to maybe start meditation but I don’t know how or what to do or what I should be thinking or feeling whilst doing it ? Like I have thoughts that I don’t want or agree with but then how can the mind disagree with itself ? So I’m realising I’m not the thoughts in my head I’m the being behind the thoughts . The mind is a tool that serves a certain purpose but when you don’t need the tool you set it down , however my mind has taken over me and I’m living in constant thought and it’s really frustrating sometimes I don’t want to think and just be clear headed sometimes . Anyway wanted to leave a comment to say I really liked yours and it resonated with me . Maybe I’m cooked mentally! Lol
@@cosmic_caveman9427 Yes! You are the being behind the thoughts, the Witness of the mind. This is the great insight that leads to Self-Realization. We are not generating thoughts, they are arising spontaneously, autonomously, as a result of all experience. This does not require belief, it can be known first-hand by engaging in meditation. Meditation is not easy when you first start, it is very challenging, but it is worth it to persevere, as the alternative is to remain a tortured victim of your mind for the rest of your days.....yikes. Nearly everyone is being driven mad by the mind. People tend to live as though they are their mind, this leads to all sorts of complications, confusion, frustration, stress, depression, even mental illness and suicide, at its worst. Dont you think its crazy that at our current level of evolution we havent addressed this glaringly obvious issue of the mind and what it actually is in relation to ourselves? Mind-boggling! To meditate is to exercise your ability to control attention. You are in charge of attention, the mind is a different animal, but your ability to direct attention is your super-power. You are basically learning to control your attention. You will notice how out of control it is when you set yourself the task to only give attention to one thing. Meditation is also called one-pointedness. In meditation you will learn to hold attention where you want to. This practice has also been called "Taming the drunken monkey" for obvious reasons. Try starting with a simple candle meditation. Sit comfortably on the floor with a cushion. Light a candle in front of you. Focus on the flame, only the flame, nothing else, just flame, flame, flame. Not thoughts about the flame, just flame, not thoughts about the candle, just flame. Simply mindlessly behold the flickering flame. Now watch how little control you have of your attention. Simply notice you dont have very much control at all, dont feel bad about that, just know, ah, that is the case. Always return to simply beholding the flame, then you will go off again into thinking, once you realize you have wandered into thinking, bring attention back. It will wander again of course, bring it back, and on, and on, and on, and on. You are exercising an extremely weak "muscle" so it will take time to gain strength. But it is worth it. The goal is to be able to come to rest as the witness observer, you will notice you can watch your mind from a motionless position. Then strange things start to happen.....

Not thoughts about the flame, just flame, not thoughts about the candle, just flame. Simply mindless behold the flickering flame.
Poor management is a lot to blame for the shite jobs situation. They're programmed to be uncaring and bullying and their position goes completely to their head. If they were more decent and civil then work would be 10x better. But it just seems to get worse. Yeah I'm very similar too ex alcoholic, 10+ years sober, pretty sure I have ADHD, get bored very easily even though I'm a dive instructor and travel the world. Sometimes wish I was normal
@ You see finding out gave me answers but the best thing was medication. It was like I felt a calmness that most people feel, that I'd never felt before. I think this why many people with ADHD end up being alcoholics before they know what it is. All my 'mental health' issues went away.
@@FindingYourSerenity this is very important news for me, what kind of medication did you get? How long did it take to get? Obviously start with a consultation with my GP right?
@@Sabadiver Yeah you need to speak with your GP first. I ended up going private. There's a long waiting list depending on where you live so if you can afford private it is worth it. Mine cost £300 for diagnosis and then £200 for follow ups to determine medication. I honestly would have gone into debt because of it if it wasn't for my partner but I would have chosen to lol that's how much it was worth it. I think I may have had 3-4 follow ups. But some areas the wait lists aren't so bad. It took me a month see see a psychiatrist and a couple of weeks to get diagnosed then they started me on meds straight away. I take atomoxetine which is an SNRI and there are some stimulant meds too. I think the dr determines it by your symptoms. Now I have it on prescription all I have to do is pick it up every month at my drs it's the same price as a normal prescription.
Work is merely a means to and end for me. I hate the monotony of it. But i earn ok money and i do as much as i can when i can. Try do more of the things u enjoy.
Since you have admitted your alcoholism I wonder if you have ever attended Alcoholics Anonymous meetings? It's a great place to meet people and listen to other people's stories. They have a 12 Step programme and encourage you to live one day at a time. Don't focus beyond that. I speak from experience by the way. Spend less time analysing yourself. Who "you really are" is you interacting with other people. You get a great sense of peace at an AA meeting. The power of the group, the power of connection. And once you share in a room, you will get a lot off your chest. So, from one alcoholic to another, find the meetings, stick around and be at peace!
Feels like every aspect of our lives is transactional as well which makes it worse . The carrot is way too far away now and house prices are ridiculous .

Agreed mate. I'm 33 - left uni aged 21, worked ever since. I've had 8 jobs in those 12 years and not found stimulation, satisfaction or consistent interest in any of them. Only solutions I've been able to determine are:
1) Passion - make or break and follow something you love.

I understand what you're saying. I’ve been there before, and maybe still am, i end up thinking that if I did this or that, I’d find happiness, only to end up in the same place.

Man, I don’t know who you are but I absolutely fucking loved this. Respect.
