    If you haven’t connected your roof to your pc yet, then the ipx-800 v3 is a fairly cheap ip enabled relay which has ascom drivers, so dead easy to control roof motor. Thin its current about €188 euros.

    • @Astrobloke

      Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Since making this video I have built a brand new observatory and using an Arduino am able to fully control the roof via my PC and within imaging routines in NINA or other programs like sequence generator pro. Its a luxury to have and also I am now able to access and control my Observatory from anywhere in the world as long as I have internet or signal. Clear skies

    Nice one mate. This is exactly the type of observatory I'm looking to go down the route of in the near future. Noticed your thread from SGL which brought me here. Keep the updates coming on the observatory end. Plenty of things we all can learn from your experience. Oh and yeah the weather had been absolute horrid. Rain and wind... What's that all about

  • @pompeymonkey3271
    @pompeymonkey3271 3 года назад +1

    Not a Talon then. lol
    I (and a friend) have a telescope installed at E-Eye in Spain. They use a Talon6 in conjunction an AAG cloudwatcher to automagically open and close the roof as conditions permit. The most beneficial aspect of this is that it does not rely on the PC being up. If there's a power outage, the system uses the UPS to park the scope and then close the roof independently. It has been working faultlessly for two years.
    Not cheap though. :(
    I also prefer the immediacy of capturing data locally, even if I he fewer clear nights, inferior seeing, and a shit-load of LP, hence why I want to upgrade my home obsy to be automated.

    • @Astrobloke
      @Astrobloke  3 года назад

      Hi again. If my Obsey was in a remote location i would definitely invest in a fully automated and backed up system. Mine is in my garden so not really necessary and I never have the roof off unless its clear with no rain in sight. I mention in my video my reasons for remoting in are because I work shifts and so when on nights I can still image. Nearly finished installing an arduino to control the roof which will allow weather monitoring too.

    Just have to convince herself that it won't be an eyesore.

    • @Astrobloke

      I think it looks better than some cobbled together sheds I have seen. Tell her you can mount some hanging baskets to the outside, should seal the deal lol

  • @mellowhippo
    @mellowhippo 3 года назад

    Excellent work! I am intently following to see what you come up with on controlling your roof with an Arduino. Your video inspired me to build my own budget shed observatory that I am currently working on now. Once complete, I would like to add motorization and then automate it with an affordable system. Wishing you the best success!

    • @Astrobloke
      @Astrobloke  3 года назад

      I think it will take some working out but will sort it and share my findings. As an interim i have gone for a home hub solution where you can remote in on an app and the unit learns the remote fobs signal. It was £40 so not too bad but i want to automate so the roof will close at end of sequence and should the weather suddenly change

  • @rudibarani
    @rudibarani 3 года назад +1

    Interesting design! Do you have plans / ideas to prevent form accidentally closing the roof when the scope is not properly parked?

    • @Astrobloke
      @Astrobloke  3 года назад

      Hi. When I finally workout the PC controlling it I will have to put a safety net in for that. Atm the roof would only close if i tell it and I have a camera to check that the scope is clear first

    Hi Glenn, you said on a previous video that you had to push the roof past and then back a smidge to ensure the weather proofing strip went over the outside, how does that work with the remote? I've got a wooden shed that I'm about to cut the roof off to convert into one. The other issue is limited view because of the side walls, does your scope go above the walls?

    • @Astrobloke
      @Astrobloke  Год назад +1

      Hi Craig. So when I went to auto roof I made some adjustments. I firstly mounted a strip with a brush sticking up (draught seal) on the inside so my rubber strip stopped the other side off. This made quite a good seal but to make sure no rain could get in I mounted a larger rubber flap to the outside (about 100mm wide) so that the roof had an extra lip to overhang that area. I hope that makes sense?

      Hi Richard. I really do not know. I am sure there is but it would have to be an internet search

  • @whatmattersmost6725
    @whatmattersmost6725 3 года назад +1

    Hi Glenn, can I you press the button again! I think I got it for you, take that second remote and open the case and on the PCB board solder 2 wires the the contacts or if it uses a puss button then solder 2 wires to the legs of the push button and use a 3.5mm male plug in to a "LIVISN 5V 1-Channel Computer USB Control Switch Relay Module Driver-Free Relay Module Plug and Play Suitable for PC Smart Controller(5V 1-Channel)" cost USD $10.00 and there is a free app of program and you can connect it to your USB port and use the free app / software to close the built in relay to act like your clicking the remote, maybe not the cleanest but should work but just not into NINA as you would need to use a USB Ascom device like maybe www.shoestringastronomy.com and then being Ascom could work in NINA as a camera shutter button?

    • @Astrobloke
      @Astrobloke  3 года назад

      Thank you so much Christopher. I have some details on an arduino one and relay shield which is also quite i expensive. Just need to read up and make sure I can get the correct drivers sorted, yours would work though and maybe a quick temp setup for sure, thanks again
