    looking great man this series inspired me to rebuild my Astro shed. though had to do it on a massive budget so re-using old wood made a 1.1m square in garden and poured concrete in it. didn't know about the vapour barrier thing tho.. i imagine i can just put a sheet ontop of the concrete under where my tripod will sit?

    • @Astrobloke
      @Astrobloke  Год назад +1

      Hi Sean. Nice one. Damp rising through concrete will vary greatly depending on subsoil conditions etc and you may get none. I use those foam like jigsaw squares for floor. Waterproof and soft so should you drop something a lot more forgiving than concrete.

    Man I hope your back is feeling ok after all that moving dirt and rock around. Mine hurt just watching 😉
    Looks great! Can’t wait to see the slab laid down. I’m surprised that insulation and two plastic sheets are sufficient to dampen vibrations. I was thinking that I would need a 1-2 cm rubber type pad all around the pier base, but this would be a whole lot easier.

    • @Astrobloke
      @Astrobloke  Год назад

      I had a few soaks in a bath with Epsom salts for my aching muscles.
      Its coming along nicely. it leaves a small gap no more that 2-3cm but its enough to stop any vibrations transferring from the main slab the the pier blocks and has been tried and tested. Its inexpensive and quick and easy to do. I will be in a separate building while imaging so this is all that's really needed. Thanks for watching and commenting, clear skies

    @Astrobloke thanks for impressive videos. The steps are well explained, but I don't understand what are you expecting to happen when you put concrete on top of the compressed lower layer and then take the wooden sides off. In my opinion the compressed layer will start slowly to disintegrate and in some time the top concrete layer will be hanging in air. I'm afraid of this step, so I'm writing as soon as I could to possibly prevent this from happening. I hope I'm wrong though :)
    Thanks again for nice videos and good luck with the build!
    Pavel

    • @Astrobloke
      @Astrobloke  Год назад +1

      Hi Pavel and thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. If it was left as it is then that would be a problem but once the shuttering is removed any exposed rubble is going to be covered as I am going to render the sides. Then we have more earth to backfill to the slab further so the compacted layer is below ground level to prevent this happening. The compacted type one is a surprisingly strong sub base however but I appreciate your observation and looking out for a potential problems. Glenn

    Is it going to slab on ground or floor above ground? I noticed you don't have any thickening beams in the edge which would normally have a layer of F11 trench mesh, say 300mm deep to strengthen up the edge. I am a retired builder and finished my observatory about 6 months ago.

    • @Astrobloke
      @Astrobloke  Год назад +1
